For every 2 people you have in your family add $5 more and double or triple the amount of whatever you are buying that week. You can vary this list for your own needs as in substituting cans of chicken for tuna, tomato soup for tomato sauce etc. Remember this is an example and you can vary it for your own family needs or your area stores sales.

IED (improvised explosive device)
i think these would be pretty damn useful for the z-poc. if i knew how to make them i would have a notebook filled with techniques. i can see numerous uses for them not only for Z-Poc but for any SHTF event. (lets just say you are skilled with explosives) what are some uses for IEd's beside the usual "lets kill zeds"

At the ripe old age of 26, I finally broke down and got a concealed carry permit here in VA (which is a right to carry state, just FYI).
And I picked up a Ruger SR9c. I've handled the M&P compact, some kind of kahr and the XDs, but the balance of the Ruger was better than all of them for me. One of those things you just pick it up and "know" that's the one. Its a good size for me as well, I'm 5'8" and 170 so not the biggest frame to conceal with. Probably headed to the range tomorrow :D.

Payday is tomorrow, and I want to take a new toy home. 10mm doesn't seem to be very popular around here, and I am pretty new to it myself. After hearing all its praises at work, I did a little research on the ballistics, and quickly fell in love. What I REALLY want is a Colt Delta Elite, but I'm not quite ready to dump another $1,300 into a pistol. I've come in contact with a used EAA Witness, and it's in extremely good condition. I have extremely good access to cheap ammo as well, and would be taking home 2 boxes of ball, 1 of 185g double tap, and 1 box of 200g double tap hardcast lead. What is the water cooler talk about 10mm?

What have you done to improve your chances of survival this week? What are your plans for next week?
This week, I circulated new food items to my BOB, added water to the kit, and I'm taking advantage of the layaway at the local pawn shop to obtain a new rifle. The latter isn't really a direct "prep" but it will serve to add some versatility in the form of accurate short range, and mediocre intermediate to "longish" range capability. Last weekend, Maricely and I rotated seasons on our car kit as well. Next week, and each subsequent week, PT is going to take center stage in my off time. I've managed to maintain at my current level through the holidays but now that it's warming up, I'd like to take advantage of the weather to get out and improve myself. Work is also looking up, but I'll save that announcement for another time. I'm sure y'all are getting bored of hearing me talk about my security job! Anywho, I hope you all have had a productive week, and if not, it's definitely not too late to make next week one. I look forward to hearing how things are going for you!

Last weekend my favorite mall-ninja dragged me along to a con of some sorts(the ones with a lot of cosplay), loads of stands with cheap katanas and other weapons from video-games and Japanese series.
One stand was selling shurikens for 5 euro's a peace. My friend got exited so i examined one and i'd say the're stainless, low carbon, 3mm steal sheeting stamped in a star shape. I bought one for jokes, he bought it for killing zed's, couldn't burst his bubble for that kind of price. They held up surprisingly well to the abuse we put them trough in his back-yard and i'm confident this can really hurt people after a good bit of practice. Would it be worth klipping it to my B.O.-belt?

For a couple of months I have been thinking of getting a rifle. I finally set my sights on one, but I don't know if it's worth getting it.
The rifle in question is the Remington 770 chambered for .308 Win. The problem I am finding is that there isn't really a lot of ammunition being sold for .308 I guess what I am really asking is, would it be worth it to get the rifle now even if the ammuntion is unavailable?

Hey, guys.
It's been a few months since I've really come back on to the site. It's good to see some new faces, and some old faces return. I've just been dealing with a some personal crap, in this case, school. My bloody teachers kept telling my classmates and I that we have to choose our courses wisely, as they will later affect our life later on, and that sort of thing. They then told us of their past students who won countless awards, etc.... Anyway, that talk just stressed me out my future, seeing how I'm really not the smartest tool in the shed. Anyway, that brings me to my question for the thread. When you guys were younger, what was it that you guys wanted to do in life? Did you have specific ambitions, or had not idea? It's good to be back, at least for now.

Does anyone else buy cheap knives?
I have about a half dozen of the BudK Wahoo Killer knife stashed around and just ordered six more at 3 for $4.99. Also have about the same number of the WalMart Ozark Trails $1 pocket knife. Not high quality knives, but not junk either. Cheap enough to have several scattered around where you live and work, in your vehicles. And, if you lose one, no dramatics. Drop is in a sewer line or septic tank, it can stay. Lost a pocket knife last week going into the local Federal building and had it in my bag, guards took it. At a $1 I will not worry about it.

So what is your nightmare Apoc scenario that you would hope to avoid if at all possible?
Mine would be having to fight my way to a day care to get an infant, and then to an elementary school to get my son. I would have about a 20 mile trip to get to both, then make it back home. I would only have a .45 with two magazines and a pocket knife should things get ugly. The idea of having two kids to acquire feels pretty da#n daunting should things go to hell in a handbasket.

An original Timberrattler thread, one that I think should be discussed again. I have reposted the OP in its original form, and below is a link to the thread. Enjoy!
~LJ http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/wiki/zombieprep/thread/3540585/Comfortably+numb.... Post-Z would be a nightmare. One thing many will look to to ease the pain and anxiety will be drugs and alcohol. Will you partake in controled substances and perscription drugs or do you believe their use would be too risky and dangerous in a post apocolyptic world? There would be no such thing as illegal drugs. You could grow marijuana in your back yard if you wanted to and cook meth on your front porch. Presciption drugs wouldn't have to be prescribed you could take whatever you found. It wouldn't matter if you were 21 or not. If you could get your hands on it, you could drink it. I'm looking for people's thoughts on this subject and I am not looking to judge. Would drugs and booze be a curse or a blessing?

I haven't been on a for a while but have been lurking for the past 2 weeks. I've been going through alot of personal BS for the past 8 months. Anyway I thought I'd start a thread and ask IF you have alcohol in your BOB, what type is it?
As for me, I don't have any right now. But if I did, I would probably have Absolut vodka and maybe a bottle of Bulleit bourbon whisky.

this is an idea for a bob for use in city/urban setting including getting evacuated to a shelter which over here in the uk normally means a church or school hall.
important documents duct tape, cabal ties, bunngy cabal x4, tarp small, firstaid kit, ball of string, chalk and a can of spray paint, pack of playing cards, mobile charger, large bar of chocolate, teabags, tishues wet wipes and hand sanitiser and a bag to put it in looking on the web it says you need 4L of water a day (one U.S. gallon) for drinking cooking and sanitation the wet wipes will help reduce the need as you can wash with wet wipes. So not sure if to go for something like a lifesaver water bottle or just use bottled water probably a mix of both maybe 2L of water. food will have to be stuff that you can eat cold and easy to open also must not forget to put a Spork in.
