Vehicles

This is an extensive list of transportation when that fateful day happens. Before the list, some things to consider. These vehicles are distinctly land-based. For air vehicles, see Aircraft. For sea vehicles, see Vessels. For military vehicles, see Militry Vehicles

Purpose
Most vehicles will be used to get from point A to point B. Scouting should be reserved for the quieter, stealthier and less noticeable human. While the thought of a heavily armed bus may appeal, if it's you and a few others stick with a small truck or other vehicle. If it's a crew of you, your best friends, your woman and ten other skilled people, go with the bus or a van. The reasoning behind this is gasoline. Using a bus that burns gas at 10 miles a gallon isn't worth the effort when transporting a small group. Also realize that you wouldn't want to go smashing through a city with a 1990 Honda Civic. The key importance is weighing out protection, stealth, and cargo capacity.

Protection
Zombies aren't stronger th
an the human they were created from, but protection is still an issue. While 2 inches of steel plating isn't a must, a solid structure is necessary. Most vehicles can survive minor collisions, but ramming through a horde of zombies is just plain stupid. A car with a chassis that is higher up off the ground is ideal, with less of a tendency to be swarmed and have it's windows busted through. Also keep in mind that in the case of a flat tire, or worse, engine problems, that car needs to be strong enough to hold up against attacking zombies.

Stealth
Imagine you're on the highway, maybe after getting supplies with your survivor pals, in a loaded semi-truck with a trailer filled with guns, people, and other supplies. You, driving with your woman in your lap, your best pal riding shotgun, and a whole convoy of survivors firing fifty-cal turrets, grenades and other things going off, you neglect one thing. When the day is over, and you go to sleep, the thousands of zombies that heard the noise will hunt you down with no trouble. Stealth is key. While you may be skilled and can pop a head shot off with one eye closed, and have a few dozen survivors who are just as skilled, in the long run you save supplies, guns, gas, and, most importantly, lives when not seen. A big convoy is only smart when traveling
very long distances, as in from city to city or between fortresses. When foraging for supplies and a vehicle is a must, go with a small, quiet car, not a loud, destructive hummer.

Cargo Capacity
Now, seeing as you need to survive along with everyone else you've picked up, you need a place for all those guns, ammo, supplies, gasoline, food and people! A big storage space is essential, but how big is too big? This depends. If you have all sorts of rifles, pistols machine guns, knives machetes, explosives, turrets and 20,000 rounds, food, water, animals, you, your woman, two dozen others and Grandma Agnes, a semi trailers are ideal. However, don't go packing all that in a few trucks. A fifty caliber turret is near pointless unless against a horde, so don't pack that in the trunk unless you are IMMEDIATELY taking it back to a base or a leaving convoy. Remember, only what's necessary. If a semi trailer full of supplies is necessary, then so be it. Just don't take that trailer and put a box or two in the back. Use it to it's fullest potential, and if that isn't obtainable, you'd be best to leave it in a place you may remember or block off a road with it.

Size
In this case, size does matter (no pun intended). Almost all roads, particularly highways and freeways, will be clogged, bumper to fender, throughout the world with people who tried to flee. Many of these cars will have "grabbers", zombies who died buckled into their seatbelts. They will reach out and try to grab you into their vehicles so they can eat you. Also, trying to drive a bus through a clogged road is hundreds of times more difficult than a few motorcycles or bikes. Don't get a huge vehicle unless it has the strength to move dozens cars without being damaged itself.

Outfitting
Equally as important as the vehicle itself is the outfit kit; What type of gear you carry, integrated or stowed on board, can seriously effect what areas you can access and what missions you can accomplish. For example, a semi or a bus can be outfitted with a snow plow to easily just drive through a horde. A pickup truck can have a machine gun planted on the back (provided you can find one). Even whter or not you carry a kayak can effect where you can go, or how you get there.

Convoying
While “as presented” most of the vehicles here are implied to be single, stand-alone unit, the reality is you should NEVER move out in less than 2 vehicle convoys (much more, if possible). If you down to one vehicle, you should consider taking to your feet for all ambulatory members and reserving the vehicles for injured members, at least long enough to find additional transportation.

Tip: If you have been driving through any area and for any reason, your car will not move, get out and RUN as far away as possible. You may have been broadcasting a message to all Skin Jobs within earshot that "Dinner is served."

In no particular order, here are some of the best means of transportation during the zombie outbreaks.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Foot:

This is one of the best always-available ways to travel. Everyone except paralyzed people and babies can do it. It requires little energy and will outrun the normal stereotype zombie easily. This mode of transportation provides no cover and you can't run over zombies. Use this mode of transportation ONLY to get away in a clinch; DO NOT use this mode of transportation unless you have NO other options.
The main advantage is that if you walk, you lose very little energy. This mode is best left for scouts and people who are in shape.

If there’s nothing else just hop in and ride. If you need some added protection just put some wood over the top and crouch inside.
However, for practical purposes you could only use them for short-range material trasportation (probably less than 1 mile), even inside your fortress; The addition of much bigger than average wheels would give them limited off-road ablity; And finally, you could cut em up and use them to re-enforce something.

Rickshaw:
Rickshaws
(or rickshas) are a mode of human-powered transport: a runner draws a two-wheeled cart which seats one or two persons. The word rickshaw came from Asia where they were mainly used as means of transportation for the social elite. However, in m
Ricksaws.
A Pair Of Typical Rickshaws; One Is Purely
Hand-Powered, The Other Bicycle.
ore recent times rickshaws have been outlawed in many countries in Asia due to numerous accidents.
Runner pulled rickshaws have mainly been replaced in Asia by bicycle rickshaws. They are also common in Western cities like New York City. In London they are known as pedicabs. The term "rickshaw" is today commonly used for those vehicles as well, but this article deals exclusively with runner-pulled rickshaws.
The word "rickshaw" originates from the Japanese word jinrikisha (人力車, 人 jin=human, 力 riki=power or force, 車 sha=vehicle), which literally means "human-powered vehicle".
History
The 1707 painting "Les deux carrosses" by Claude Gillot shows two rickshaw-like carts in a comical scene. These carts, known as vinaigrettes because of their resemblance to the wheel barrows of vinegar makers, were used in the streets of Paris in the 17th and 18th century.
Rickshaws first appeared in Japan around 1868, at the beginning of the Meiji Restoration. They soon became a popular mode of transportation, since they were faster than the previously used palanquins (and human labor was considerably cheaper than using horses).
The identity of the inventor (if there was one) remains uncertain. Some American sources give the American blacksmith Albert Tolman, who is said to have invented the rickshaw around 1848 in Worcester, Massachusetts for a missionary; others claim that Jonathan Scobie (or W. Goble), an American missionary to Japan, invented rickshaws around 1869 to transport his invalid wife through the streets of Yokohama.
Still others say the rickshaw was designed by an American Baptist minister in 1888. This is undoubtedly incorrect, for an 1877 article by a The New York Times correspondent in Tokyo stated that the "jin-riki-sha, or man-power carriage" was in current popular use, and was probably invented by an American in 1869 or 1870.
Japanese sources often credit Izumi Yosuke, Suzuki Tokujiro, and Takayama Kosuke, who are said to have invented rickshaws in 1868, inspired by the horse carriages that had been introduced to the streets of Tokyo shortly before. Starting in 1870, the Tokyo government issued a permission to build and sell rickshaws to these three men; the seal of one of these inventors was also required on every license to operate a rickshaw.
By 1872, some 40,000 rickshaws were operating in Tokyo; they soon became the chief form of public transportation in Japan. (Powerhouse Museum, 2005; The Jinrikisha story, 1996)
Around 1880, rickshaws appeared in India, first in Simla and then, 20 years later, in Calcutta (now Kolkata). Here they were initially used by Chinese traders to transport goods; in 1914 the Chinese applied for permission to use rickshaws to transport passengers. Soon after, rickshaws appeared in many big cities in Southeast Asia; pulling a rickshaw was often the first job for peasants migrating to these cities.

Rollerblades:

Often overlooked in such a situation, roller blades carry a number of advantages and difficulties but for the experienced blader still offer a fair mode of transportation. Rollerblading is much faster than walking, and requires little more effort. The big disadvantage is in the time it takes to get them on, or off. Unlike other vehicles, it requires an average of three minutes to put on roller blades, and when you get into a situation where you can't use them (such as a dirt road) the zombies aren't going to wait for you to take them -off-. Also, anything but good quality will have you tripping and falling fairly often. Experience with either rollerblading, or the surprisingly similar sport of poll-less downhill skiing is highly recommended. Also note the advantage of being able to carry them easily. As a general rule, however, one would be best profited with another option. Also, if your leg is grabbed, you will slip and fall. As in the case of the man in World War Z who was riding on rollerskates and had a hockey stick with a butcher knife on the end, you will fall and cut your head open.

Some are petal assist where the bike becomes a hybrid, you become the motor, and the electric engine just helps you additionally but can't power you without you petaling. The other type is like a motorcycle where you can use the throttle and it will power you completely. Petaling increases acceleration, max distance per charge (can go up to 40 per charge depending on terrain and how much you petal). If you have extra batteries, you can easily go 40-70 miles on the bikes. The best on the market for petal assist are Schwinn and the best for full motor is Ultra Motors (Europa and A2B models)

Horse: Horse
A quiet means of escape or travel to safer and more secure areas. Can carry somewhat large amounts of equipment. No gas required except for vegetation and water, easy to find if not in an urban area. Horses are not for inexperienced riders, as the horse may become startled and throw the rider, or require special care. A horse will not attract attention like a motor vehicle, but if zombies are encountered on a horse, the horse will not stand a chance in a fight and it would be best to continue riding away. In a tough scenario, it could be butchered for food. Also, if the cause of zombies is trans-species, the horse may just become another zombie. In medieval days knights rode around breaking heads before Z day. Dressage was training just for wars. According to the Zombie Survival Guide, they will not just be startled by smelling, hearing, or seeing a ghoul, but they will more than likely throttle you off their back and run away. This will leave you possibly with a broken back or legs, surrounded by zombies. Not a good situation at all. However, an experienced rider could use that as an early-warning and either combat the zombie or ride away. These are easily one of the best vehicles available, provided you can ride a horse.

One example is the world-famous Segways, and not-so world-famous the Rad2Go Q Electric Chariot, though you could easily Build Your Own. So what's not to like? Actually, a whole lot in and of themselves. However, yyou could eaily attach a cararmed segwayt to one to use it as a power plant (in a secured area), or tear one down for the contituaent parts and install them ONTO the cart, making it, essentially, a powered cart for greater speed and potentially greater load. Dual-Sport/Enduro Motorcycles:

BMW Darkar 650 Enduro Bike These bikes are meant to go on long rides on the highway and also take on some of the toughest trails out there. They look like half street bike, and half dirt bike, because thats exactly what they are. They are heavier than a dirt bike (400lbs vs 200lbs) but can still get just about anywhere. I've seen these bikes tackle some of the worst terrain, crash 5 or 6 times, get left out in the rain for days, then start up and work fine. Enduro bikes are meant to be loaded up with with gear and many have saddle bag (side bag) mounting on them. With the ability to go anywhere (I truly mean that), carry around 40 lbs of gear on the sides, and sport 50 MPG, these bikes are made to for the solo zombie survivor.
Advantages: Won't get worn out by long rides on the road (unlike dirt-bike), some have 12v power plugs, 50 MPG, can go over any terrain

Useful for mowing down zombies, but you'd have to first put on armor plating on the Hummer and put link fencing on the windows so if you get caught in the middle of an army of zombies it won't be that easy for them to get in. Also on a side note, as stated in The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks, not all Hummers are as rugged and tough as they are advertised, so know your vehicle before you choose this as your transportation. This thing has been proven time and time again that it can stand up to whatever terrain it comes across. With less internal safety and comfort features of its later generations (airbags, and air conditioning come completely optional) it certainly has the external safety features that would rival the current military version (with locking doors). 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 The Dodge Ram, Ford F-series, Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan, etc are an easy choice for an apocalypse vehicle: rugged, easily modifiable, and built to last. These things are tough, but not invincible. Stock wheel and tire combinations offer little traction off road. A direct hit to the front end from a zombie body or an obstacle will damage the radiator and disable the truck. And as any modern vehicle goes, there are plenty of things to break. Recreational Vehicle (RV) The Recreational Vehicles are those things you see parked in Wal-Mart lots those hot July days. They are basically 40 foot buses armed to the tip with every living comfort. While not an idealistic zombie killing machine it can provide very good cover (R/V's are extremely durable w/ thick walls and lockable doors). The RV is also very heavy, allowing the user to not have to worry about something flipping you over...unless it's your own doing. Too bad however, the R/V is designed SOLELY for road use, with limited trail capability. The most you can do is ride out the apocalypse in the comfort of your RV. It has storage racks just about everywhere to carry stuff, so that's a bonus! It does have a bathroom, but you have to use tubes to knock the fecal matter into a sewer or your bus will smell like poop for 3 years or more. Also, they have very poor gas mileage (about 3 miles per gallon), so unless you have about 60 gallons of gas and enough weaponry, plus bulletproof windows, this isn't the best choice. The model shown runs about 1.5 million dollars (but it's also amphibious). Other, smaller, car-attachment ones are much cheaper, but will do practically nothing against zombies.

Hard to navigate around corners, and not meant for city travel, you may have some trouble getting this around, but it will bring you in a main road to the center of town, and back again. Designed for long hauls, these things will allow you to carry a TON of provisions and ammo, and will take you long distances. Not a bad choice for hauling across the country, but not the best for
navigating around town. If you have one, you can also use it to barricade your fortress. Not the best for off road, but with the steel bumper and high grill, even one in stock form can take plenty of abuse. Other advantages are that you can weld sheet metal or anything you can find to it to re-enforce it.The off road performance is obviously limited due to their length and tires, and the fuel consumption is high, but if road travel is your idea, then one of these will carry plenty of people or supplies. Easy to get, but beware, some run on natural gas for cleaner emissions, and this will be hard to come by and dangerous to transport. Good protection for whatever is in the back, not so much the driver, and the cleaning that will be necessary to get the back livable may take precious time. Very heavy and hard to turn. If you take out the garbage (most of it should be in bags) and put a gratuitous amount of soil in the pit, you have in essence a farm on wheels, open air for sunlight, and a fairly large tank to hold water, soil, etc. These are extremely good vehciles, as long as you have the feul to let them ride around.

Backhoe:
Back hoe Anybody planning to stay put in a reinforced bunker should really try to get their hands on one of these or similar small loader. Useful for clearing dead Zs, reinforcing barricades, digging trenches, etc. They are tough as it gets, and obviously have good off road performance. Like the one in the picture, some come with enclosed air-conditioned cabs, which would help with the smell of decomposing bodies and protect from a surprise zombie encounter.

Attainability
: Civilian, easy (try a local rental yard or construction site)
Maintenance: Medium
Gas Mileage: Poor, but distance is not really the issue.
Toughness: Very high
Speed: Low
Fuel Type: Diesel

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Police Car:Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor
Made for slamming and ramming. Squad cars are typically reinforced and have upgraded internals. Remember, however, that they are usually not bullet-proof. Even if a squad car is not working, it is good for scavenging as they have radios and perhaps a weapon if you're lucky (remember in Resident Evil: Apocalypse when Alice left the hospital and found the shotgun). Getting a couple of these is definitely good to cruise into zombie territory to look for survivors. Excellent for scounting and escape, as they are some of the fastest conventional vehicles invented.

Ambulance:

Ambulance While lacking in off-road capabilities ambulances are rather tough vehicles. An advantage of the ambulance is that it has a lot of room for storage, and, when found, carries emergency medical supplies. As with all emergency vehicles it is rather tough, and surprisingly easy to maintain (the same may not be true with its equipment). In terms of gas mileage, this vehicle is a good bet for short range travel/ mobile insertion and extraction. With only slight modification, this would be the perfect centerpiece for your band of survivors. On a downside, the only semi-sure place to find one of these would be a hospital, and the keys are unlikely to be left with the vehicle. You cannot go very fast with these either, as they have a high center of balance. As we have all read, hospitals are some of the most dangerous areas during an outbreak due to the chaos and lack of maintenance that follows an outbreak, but this is the topic of another section. It is very possible that these may have a blood-stained cabin, or a zombie still in his/her body bag.

Fire Engine:
TFire Enginehe size of a bobtail diesel rig, only without the cargo capacity, its fuel consumption and noise matches a semi as well. Sirens and flashing lights would only attract more zombies if you turned them on. It is large and hard to turn, but relatively speedy, and VERY well cared for (babied like a show car trailer queen- until they get dirty). As for the advantages, they are EXTRELEMLY tough and can carry lots of supplies if stripped of its fire fighting equipment, or leave the fire equipment in if you're worried about your base on fire. The water tanks could be used for extra fuel or drinking water. And for your injured buddies there's usually some medical equipment inside along with a radio for what ever reason you would need it for. Another advantage is that if it's a ladder truck it would carry a ladder, never know when you'll need a ladder. Also, if you do have the chance to salvage one, the fire engine can be stripped down for it's components (such as the water pump), then rebuilt into a new platform (such as field repair/tow vehicle).
Attainability: Limited, but available

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monster Truck:
Monster Truck They get about 3 miles per gallon, but no zombie can get to the top, and the giant wheels could run over about 5 zombies at time, they can even run over cars. These are a great source of recreation. If you need to snipe away at the zombies, just sit on the top. The only two disadvantages are that they get poor mileage and are not easily found unless you are at a monster truck rally on Z-Day, own one, or find one.

Yamaha Rhino:
These aYamaha Rhinore some of the best SUV's that you can find on the market. They are fast, easy to obtain, and are great on gas. These Utility Vehicles are great for running off-road and away from zombies...or other survivors if that is the way you want. They come standard with a winch, a roll cage and seat belts, windshields and tops are optional. These can hold four people, or two and cargo. They have a dump box and can max out at 60 MPH. They don't come with a windshield, so if you get one on Z-Day and don't modify, don't plan on running over any Zack.

Cushman CartCushman Carts:
Those ubiquitous groundskeepers carts are electrically powered, but have limited range and speed. However, they are highly useful in scouting, salvage and recovery, and working yards. These should be carried for supporting roles by those utilizing much heavier, difficult to maneuver platforms, such as box trucks and big rigs. Their off-road capabilities are not as good as feet, but most are designed to be able to handle limited rough terrain- Which is better than anything other than a dedicated off-road vehicle. Also, since they’re electric, they are almost absolutely silent so skin jobs can’t hear you coming, and use no fuel per say, allowing that to be better employed elsewhere.

Attainability: Low; Best found in urban and suburban industrial areas and near groundskeepers areas.
Maintenance: LowRange: Medium; Needs time to charge.
Toughness: Very Low in combat situations, High in non-combat.
Fuel Type: Electric

NOTE: A kissing cousin to the Cushman Cart are golf carts; The two types should, generally, be considered essentially exactly the same (indeed, "Cushman" is the brand name, and Cushman manufactures golf carts as well).

Herkimer Battle Jitney:Vehicles - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki
The ultimate vehicle a heavily armored, windowless, soundproof, personnel carrier (designed by the Pentagon in the fifties to take congressmen on battlefield fact finding tours). Legend has it ONE was built, driven around for a few hours, then parked in a garage and forgotten about. You will not probably find one. Don't look for one. Try building your own, instead.

Attainability: None (one-of-a-kind).
Maintenance and Speed: Unknown
Gas Mileage and Fuel Type: Unknown
Toughness: High

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stormchasers Custom Tornado-Chasing Vehicle:
AKA: Tornado Intercept Vehicle (TIV) Vehicles - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki
This vehicle obviously means business- Just look at it! It SCREAMS "Just try to eat my brain, you fuckers!!" This thing was PURPOSE-BUILT to brave the worst tornadoes out there. This beast has armor, a built in turret originally made for a camera, but we all know what goes there (50-cal, anyone?) and it has at least 6 wheels, plus sloped walls to deflect any attack. It could very easily be outfitted with bullet-proof windows (and proabably is already outfitted with shatterproof windows, which are much more practical for the rise of the skin jobs). It must have a pretty hefty engine, to haul all that armor, people, AND filming equipment.
Availability: You would have to build it yourself, just like the original.
Maintenance: Unknown, but probably high.
Gas Mileage: Unknown, but probably very bad.
Toughness: Near unlimited- It DID stand up to a tornado, after all.
Speed : Probably faily speed (it did KEEP UP WITH a torando as well).
Fuel Type: Unknown.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Satellite Trucks:
satruck.jpg
A typical sat truck (port bow, erected/starboard quarter, unerrected).
Developed to put satellite- transmission capability on the ground basically anywhere, these vehicles can be stripped down for their constituent components (the truck itself, the generator, and the satellite relay gear) and re-distributed to re-establish at least land-mass wide comms abilities THAT CAN NOT BE INTERFERED WITH BY THE SKIN JOBS (since it's wireless, they can't rip down the wires). This doesn't mean normies can't interfere with comms, however (by jamming or, more pragmatically, by blowing them up). Even if satellites are all lost, the dishes themselves can be pointed one to another to re-establish intermediate-range coms, and relayed from city to city in this fashion.

Exact equipment on any given truck will vary, and consideration should be taken for this fact. Additionally, you would be best profited by putting the dishes high in the air, for longer reach.
Also available as trailers (but with fewer features).
Some of the more common equipment on typical sat trucks:
750w C-band system
16 channel audio board
400w redundant KU amplifiersdigital and analog cell phones
Upconverters
Video/audio modulators
Satellite phones
Encoders
Direcway INTERNET/INTRANET service
Standard analog and digital satellite receivers
*Generator

*Gear that would proabably be stripped off and retasked completely.

BEARCAT (Ballistic Engineered Armored Response):
The BEARCAT, though difficult to acquire will provide exceptional pbearcatrotection from zombie attack. There is no way in the world one of those brain-munchers will get through one of these. They are available in both two and four wheel drive, and the tires are made of solid rubber. It weights over ten tons and has a powerfuldieselengine. Though gas millage is poor with something this heavy, you will still get at least 200 miles per tank on pavement, maybe 150 on grass/off-road. All parts of the vehicle (including windows) are ballistically engineered to stop high-caliber rifle rounds and even explosions from an improvised explosive device (IED). All sides of the vehicle have gun-ports to deliver firepower from a safe environment. There is a top turret opening, providing a safe and elevated position to snipe the walking dead or other threats from a distance. You can easily defend yourself from zombies in this baby, but more importantly a raider posses a significantly reduced threat. The front is equipped with a winch to pull yourself free from a stuck position(or to pull someone else free). The headlights are protected by a thick metal grate which will prevent a broken bulb (VERY IMPORTANT) when you impact a walking corpse at 60 miles per hour. Along with the standard headlights, there are two remote controlled three (3) million candle power headlights on top that will light up the distance. They can also facilitate long distance communication via morse code. Sure, there is a high-power 25w two-way radio inside, but not everyone has access to police band frequencies. There is a PA system to communicate verbally from the inside of the vehicle to other survivors, or to warn raiders. The inside can keep about 6 people safe in a comfortable environment. You can fit more, but it will be very tight. There are runners along the side an back where people can ride, they can even sit on the roof. I would not recommend riding there, but you may be able to sell spots on the side or roof of your vehicle to others for a significant amount of money.
Stay away from swampy areas with this. It can cross a shallow river; but if you get stuck in the mud, you'd better hope there is a tree nearby so you can us the winch. If you become submerged in water, you are DEAD. There is no way out of this watery tomb. Keep in mind that a grenade (from a raider) could fit through a gun port, so keep them CLOSED unless you need to fire bullets or transfer currency to passengers on the outside. Many police departments do not even have a BEARCAT. Usually, cities of 300,000 people or more have an armored vehicle such as the BEARCAT. When Z-Day comes, be the first to grab it - and you are guaranteed to survive.
Attainability: Military / Police

Gas Mileage: Low/Poor
Toughness: High
Fuel Type: Diesel

Landfill Compaction Vehicle:
Landfill compaction vehicleSpecialized vehicle, good for leading the way through mobs of zombies, abandoned vehicles, highway debris, etc. Shouldn't have to worry about anything this rolls over.

Attainability: Large landfill operations

Toughness: Very
Fuel Type: Diesel

For the more gentle types there is the road roller

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Baja Buggies:
TBaja_Buggieaking it’s name from the Baja California peninsula , where it have roamed freely for years, the Baja is a modified VW Beetle, making it an off-road vehicle. They can take on terrain that would , and often does, overwhelm normal off-road vehicle. They come in three main types: Limiteds, in which minor suspension and engine upgrades have been preformed, 500’s, in which the engine has been replaced with a larger, but not overwhelming so, engine, and Unlimiteds, in which the engine is usually replaced with a V-6 or even V-8; However, Unlimiteds require the frame to be cut, as do occasionally 500’s, and therefore are not street legal. While it is a good idea to have an Unlimited in your garage, you would be best-profited to have a simple Limited, or uncut frame 500, for general purposes. (While no one will care about your cut frame after the rise of the skin jobs, they will BEFOREHAND.)
Availability: Highly common; Literally millions of Bugs are running around.
Maintenance: Generally moderate.
Gas Mileage: Generally very good.
Toughness: The militry could use these.
Speed: They FLY.
Fuel Type: Generally gasoline, but some diesel and even alterative fuels exist.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ditch Witch:
Ditch Witch.A Ditch Witch (aka “trencher”) is essentially a Bobcat or tractor with a specialized trenching attachment, generally hydraulic-powered, on the back end. They’re as maneuverable as the base tractor or Bobcat, but correspondingly slow and would not be useful as a weapon (has limited applications for digging moats). But if you have to bury pipelines, power lines, or comm cables in a hurry, this is the tool to use. It may also be useful for the creation of an ingenious booby-trap.
Obtainablity: Moderate.
Maintenance: Moderate.
Gas Mileage: Low.
Toughness: High.
Speed: Low.
Advantages: Can quickly dig narrow trenches for burying pipes or cables.
Disadvantages: Slow; noisy; Fuel-hungry; Hyper-specialized; Little protection for operator.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trains:
A “train” is a series of vehicles connected together; As the term is typically applied, it refers to a single motor unit (“engine”) pulling more than 2 units (cars), typically without motors.
Trains have several advantages over other ground vehicles;
  1. They can move large amounts of material at lower overall cost. If you attach machine guns or such to a train, you can easily take out an entire small city's worth of zombies, as long as everyone is a good shot.
  2. Their mass and speed will simply flatten any skin jobs (or normies) that get in their way or push cars out of the way.
  3. They can easily be up-armed, armored, and equipped into mobile command/attack centers, especially as staging platforms for smaller, more mobile vehicles.
They do, however, have a distinct disadvantage;
  1. They are absolutely restricted to the rails. They can not go off-road in any way, shape, or form. Even a minor breakage in the rails can de-rail the entire train, killing the passengers, destroying the merchandise, and blocking the lines for up to months to come.
Fortunately, skin jobs will be unlikely to have the strategic thinking necessary to destroy the rails, and fellow normies that may think to do so will choose, instead, to protect them in order to use the rails themselves. Additionally, Hy-Railer equipped guntrucks can rush several miles ahead, watching for this exact problem, and therefore prevent an accident.
Most modern trains are diesel-powered, though commuter trains are typically electricity-powered; However, the economies of a post-skin job would will probably restrict the manufacturing capabilities of normies, and force them to use steam-powered (if petro-chemically heated steam-powered) engines. Also, commuter trains, if they can be transferred from the restricted, or “short line” tracks, could be equipped with generators and continue to be used.

Andering_J_REDDSON Vehicle Grill Radar. 5 Sunday, 3:09 PM EST by Andering_J_REDDSON

So I was going down a long, DARK, foggy road a few days ago, and realized if we’d had a grill-mounted radar (basically backing radar mounted to the grill, rather than the rear bumper), we’d be a LOT safer.
So, I submit that grill-mounted radar be part of a vehicle’s standard gear, even if it’s normally kept shut down.
On a related note: Marine Radar (such as Furuno Radar). I know marine radar can show you quite a bit, but the usefulness in my experience for land-based nav is limited; Not just no GPS, but not even roads marked, just major navigational landmarks. ¿Is there a way to modify them so they are as useful on land, as they are on the water?

What vehicle serves you in what situation is largely a matter of what you are actually doing; Evasion and survival situations you would want to move very fast, for a very long time, and not be encumbered at all; Things like the dirt bikes, civilian ATV/Off-road vehicles, etc. Domination and devastation (taking back territory from the skin jobs), you bring the tanks, the big rigs, the massive, land-cruising battleships. For search and rescue/salvage and recovery, the medium-range is preferable, such as the hummers and other heavier ORV’s, lighter supply vehicles (box trucks), even technicals (civy vehicles and unarmored militry vehicles that have been converted into light-armored vehicles, comparable to gun trucks).
