bolt on grill gaurd
If you already have a truck your best bet would be buy a bolt on grill guard made of solid bars
around the outside (hollow will be very hard to weld to in the event something happens).

These would make it easier to accomplish armoring the front and rear windshields. You can
have a grill guard you can weld several steel blanks to the guard and tap them (which is threading a
piece of metal to accept a particular bolt or screw) to allow for bolt on cage supports. By welding in a
grill guard to the frame you will and be permanently affecting your vehicle. By adding an offroad bar
in the bed of the truck and an off road grill, you can avoid messing up your vehicle. I've seen a couple dually's pulling goose neck trailers that had a premade kind
of armor over the rear window that was like an offroad bar with metal slats to protect the window from
the trailer

Bolt on side rails would probably be easily converted to a cage support that can be applied and
removed via a set of bolts at each side rail and on the roof could give you a convertible zombacolypse
vehicle.

Assuming you have a 4 door crew cab or and model car, It wont be quite as simple barricading the
windows of your vehicle. What I would recommend is that you invest in a welding machine and some
classes, or hire a welder, to create an expanded metal (heavy gauge possibly #9 or better) guard that
has a square metal base. Then drill some holes in it and be ready to drill the holes in your vehicles door
panel and bolt it together, for a more permanent application apply a liberal line of silicone sealant (get the
clearish silicone, not its water based counterpart) and wipe off the access as you tighten the bolts.

On the note given below of weight. The max weight a vehicle can take is located on the driver side door on
a sticker in most vehicles, if preparing ahead of time this can be adjusted for. Be sure to add the weight
of possible passengers and gear.

Here are some ideas for creating a permanent zombie platform, remember that your ideas are only as
good as you let them be, buy a truck from a junk yard for $200 and play with it. Remember there are easy
ways to test if your vehicles armor will hold, just attack it

Very simple. the previous owners didn't need this beauty any more so take it to the shop
and weld on a cage. Parts, Front grill gaurd (aftermarket or build it yourself) the
windowgaurds are tubular steel on the front and that was supposed to be expanded
metal on the side windows lol

The Scavenger pickup truck
Armored Vehicle Suggestions - Zombie Survival & Defense WikiThis is an idea for a light truck that could pull a small box trailer for scavenging. As you will note the drawing is second rate lol but I'm sure you get the idea. Basically the idea is to cut all the metal off the body (except on the cab, the recessed light bays <headlights>, and inside of the bed. This being completed, 2 in" angle iron welded body supports replace the hollow sheet metal outer shell, finally this is covered by a 1/8th in thick steel sheet. Angles are kept in easy duplication range with a very low "polygon count". The engine and transmission bay have been upgraded to support the install of a larger engine and transmission, a Rear axel from a larger vehicle (the rear frame portion of a dually cut out and welded to the s10 fThe Scavengerrame then armored. This would be trial and error because I dont know exactly how heavy this would become. Though I can garuntee that you will need to upgrade the suspension parts to handle more weight.

As Concived
Engine: 454 Chevy, late 80's model
Frame: Front/S10 or 1500 Rear/1500 or 2500 franken frame, chopped then welded

Suspension upgraded for heavy duty offroading with 4 inch increase in ground clearance and much harder springs and shock absorbers.

Ideas for an armored convoy

Armored field office idea

(sorry about the low quality drawing,
just working with paint)

Pictured is an idea for a portable
building for use as sort of a "safe
house" (yes L4D). One that is
capable with some tools could even
build an armored track sliding door in
the side and modify a van to make
safe pick ups in any situation.
Could possibly be usefull inside large cities (like new orleans and new york) assuming every one in the city was infected (90% infected), you drop one of armored container haulerthese bad boys and build a garage one for a light small vehicle (armored dune buggy?). Install radios, camera systems, armored gun ports, possibly an armored crows nest, **** near limitless possibility.

Inner city reconisance vehicle?

This would be perfect for city raiding and reconnaissance, just add a 15 foot thin trailer with 3 foot high walls on it to through raided supplies in and you would have a city serpent
LAPD swat van Friggan sweeeet

Add a plow on it and this beast will clear the path for the last one

just for giggles
Enclosed offroader??

When creating an attack or defense convoy you must take into account the terrain on which you will travel, the difference in gas millage of each vehicle (keeping them close is a good idea that way you dont have to stop every 3 hrs to refill a different vehicle), and whether you have capable drivers or not

A good reason to armor the vehicle you are planning to use

This impact was caused by ~Seek~'s inability to realize driving drunk was not a good idea. 740 areial over a 2ft deep ditch one impact on the front right quarter panel, continueing the spin and then another impact head on, both impacts were agains 2 seperate 1 1/2 foot in diameter wooden telephone/power pole

The black truck pictured is a Conquest Vehicels KNIGHT XUV. Claims to be made from the same matirials as a buffalo. And for ease of maintanance, uses a ford drive line. Nice if you got $350,000.00 burning a hole in youre pocket. But i got a idea based on something already built. Steelwheels4x4 is a web site ware you can view "DRAGO" a 78' Oshkosh M-100 air port crash truck that has been converted into a self contained class a motor home. Its kinda cool. Useing his idea...Im trying to locate a 84' Oshkosh DA-1500 45' 8X8 to convert to an up armored motor home. these trucks are the fore runners to the current Oshkosh Striker line (which are available as 4X4, 6X6, and 8X8 platforms) and like the Striker, they are baced on the Oshkosh Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck or HEMTT. Both the DA-1500 8X8, and its Striker bretherin, can climb and decend 80% grades by 55 degree side slopes, and un like the millitary HEMTT which are governed to go no faster than 62 miles per hour, air resque trucks are Federally mandated to be able to reach a tarmac crash site in under 2 minutes. Concequently the DA-1500 & the Striker series ARFF trucks can go 0 to 50 in 25 seconds, and top out @ 80 milels per hour. Now i admit, you wont be breaking any land speed records, but for an 8 wheel drive 45' long truck that weighs 13 tonnes...thats impressive, i dont care who u are. On a side note, both the Striker series and the DA-1500 series ARFF trucks ride on 58 inch michelin run flat tires, have 17 inches of ground clearance, with 19 inches of wheel travel, and are equiped with central tire inflation systems. You can purcgase a Striker from Oshkosh starting @ $150,000.00 for the 4X4, and $275,00.00 for the 8X8, and i recantly saw a 1987 DA-1500 sell for $25,000.00 on a used fire apperatus surplus vehicle web site. So weather you go new or used, they are available for purchase...they also get about 14.5 miles per gallon. Annother would be a Oshkosh T-1500.
Do you find this valuable?

There is much to be said here, but the one thing that caught my eye is how it is very popular for people to speak of "Upgrading" mechanical components on their vehicles. (ex: Upgraded suspension to carry the weight, upgraded motor for more power, etc)

First... these things are easier said than done.

Secondly, if you need a vehicle to carry one ton, don't go buy a 1/2 ton pickup and rebuild the suspension. Don't even go buy a 3/4 ton pickup and put air shocks on it. Go buy a one ton pickup!.
