What's everybody's favorite Resident Evil game?
Before I say which is my favorite, I would like to say that in general I prefer the newer ones in the series..... Meaning the 3rd-person-shooter-view (4, 5, 6), rather than the older games with the fixed-camera-angles and puzzle based gameplay (1, 2, 3, veronica). Nothing is wrong with the older ones, in fact I usually prefer puzzle-based games rather than action games, but that's just my preference. The newer ones are a little bit TOO action based in fact in my opinion, which is why I consider Resident Evil 4 to be the best in the series. It was a cross between the 2 different styles.

Finally got around to using the homebrew kit my father in law sent us over the holidays. Its (supposed to be) a hefeweisen, and we used an extract vice grain.
Hopefully it doesn't suck, but it's one step closer to being able to make real beer without the use of a cheater can of ready-wort.

How much mags do you carry in a SHTF scenario?
For my AR I have a USGI mag with a Israeli spring coupler and a "butt" cuff pouch. My chest rig has 8 mags and for "speed" reloads and breaking OODA loops I have 2 speed reloads on my battle belt, and 1 weak hand reload. For pistol mag 1 in the gun, 2 strong hand reloads and 2 "weak" hand reloads.

So, I recently found out that the Colt M4 Carbine is one of Portugal's Standard Issue assault rifles, along with the Heckler&Koch G3, the Sig543, the FN P90, the Tavor Tar-21 and Heckler&Koch MP5, as seen here:
http://mundomilitar.wordpress.com/2010/09/06/armamento-do-exercito-portugues/ I often tend to confuse the M family (M4, M4A1, ...) assault rifles with the AR family ones, and sometimes even inside each family. Also, I don't know much about these weapon's features, qualities, flaws, etc. I'd appreciate if someone could give me an overview on each of these firearms, as they are the ones I'm most likely to stumble upon. If you could also introduce me to the other weapons, such as the handguns and the sniper rifles, I'd appreciate it. Just by the way, I mentioned the Colt M4 because it's the one that's the most similar to the AR families, and I like those. Thanks in advance, wkwkwkwk1

| LJ126 | Baton, Pepper Spray, and Armor... | 2 | Today, 4:35 PM EDT by Falter | ||||

Thread started: Today, 6:49 AM EDT

A brief chat with my supervisor tonight has been pretty interesting. If I am selected for a position at one of the area police departments (like I've been talking about for the last few weeks on other threads) I would need to purchase and carry/wear my own ballistic vest, baton, and pepper spray. This is the exciting promotion I've been talking about with a few of you via PM. My name was initially submitted with nine other folks, it's been narrowed down to now only three others, and I'm still listed. Cross your fingers for me; it's not a done deal.
Yep, I realize that this might be hard for some of you to swallow. I'm a real-life mall ninja, who may very well be providing security at a police station. I know how ridiculous it must read on the internet, but believe me, I couldn't make this up. My girlfriend would wave the BS flag on me, for all of you to see, in a heartbeat. I can't pretend about anything. The truth of the matter is that hiring contract security is less expensive than anchoring down police officers. This frees up resources for gear, training, etc. for the police officers. It's also a foot in the door for me, and an opportunity to make a few friends with like-minded folks. Win-Win. Anywho, back to the point. I need to buy a concealable IIA-IIIA vest, a collapsible baton, and pepper spray. The baton and spray must have a means of being attached to duty belt. To be frank, I don't really know anything about these items. A few of the brand names are recognizable, but these aren't items I use, and I don't know anything about them. Additionally, because I'm buying these items (not issued, no reimbursement from the company) the decisions must be budget-conscious. I am aware that good batons cost quite a bit too. So, LE types (*cough* - Unassigned & DDMP, others with solid experience - *cough*) any advice? Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone, if you're in Virginia, or around the Virginia area, you might be interested in this- Side note, if you're not in the Virginia area, it might be worth checking your state's website to see if they have anything similar.
"The holiday exempts 22 categories of smaller items, including batteries, flashlights, bottled water, tarps, duct tape, cell-phone chargers, smoke detectors, and first aid kits. As long as each item costs $60 or less, it is exempt from sales and use tax. Portable generators and inverters priced at $1,000 or less are also exempt during the holiday. For a full list of tax-exempt products, answers to frequently asked questions, and guidelines for consumers and retailers, visit www.tax.virginia.gov. The 2013 General Assembly agreed that, beginning with the 2014 hurricane sales tax holiday, chainsaws selling for $350 or less, and chainsaw accessories selling for $60 or less per item would be included in the list of tax-exempt items. Taxpayers can look forward to this next year." |

| LWJ2009 | The Best General-Purpose Survival Firearm is a Good Handgun Round 2 | 18 | Today, 7:31 AM EDT by LJ126 | ||||

I am going to rework this once very popular thread that LJ created last year. I would like to tweak it though and say that the best Survival Firearm for the first few hours of an event is a good handgun. Most people have a sidearm on their person or in a vehicle, and it is that weapon that your going to trust your life and that of your loved one's until you can get home and get to your inventory.
If your like me your long guns are locked up and kept at home unless your out in the boonies playing, which the majority of the time I am not. My companion now is a Smith and Wesson M&P40, that is my pistol of choice to carry me through the first few hours of an event. I can conceal it easily and not make myself an obvious target for LE or anybody else, as compared to a rifle or shotgun. I have three loaded magazines with me, so I do have enough ammo to get to where I need to go and back and not worry about running out. So what do you trust your life with until you can get to your full inventory? What do you think about the fact that a pistol is going to be the most important defensive weapon for the first few hours?

Got a aftermarket trigger spring for the Norinco last week.... Took it out to the range today. Shooting Wolf corrosive ammo I'm getting 3-4" bench rest groups at 100 yards with 5 round groups. Other than the trigger spring upgrade to smooth out the trigger pull its a unaltered SKS. Anyone got any suggestions of ways to upgrade improve/ accuracy slightly on the Sks without altering the action. I would like to get down to 3" consistently. Anyone know where to find a good aftermarket iron sights?

Here's another fun little educational diversion, whose inspiration comes from the Chuck Hawks website:
If you had a strict budget of $1000 dollars to spend on a Designated Marksman's-type Rifle, how would you set it up? You need to purchase: A) A rifle, chambered in an appropriate cartridge caliber (minimum .243 Win), B) Optics and mounting hardware, C) Any additional accessories necessary to make the rifle serviceable (sling, bipod, camouflaging, rangefinder, etc), Like the last contest/questionaire, all rifles must be new or "like new" condition. Active links must be provided to each item. However, sales tax and shipping, if applicable, are NOT to be included in the total. You may only use links to currently available or backorderable items; as we all know, prices have changed sometimes significantly over the last few years, yet links still exist to pricing of these items. Again, current pricing only. Oh, and assume that you can't borrow parts from stuff already in your own or another person's collection. This includes ammunition, or scopes, or whatever. Level playing field.

Well, I've finally started seeing these pop up in the general population with some regularity for about a month now. A good friend purchased one, and last night he allowed me to run his course with it, so now I'm hooked. The ergos were outstanding, changing a mag took a little getting used to, but was faster than with my AR+BAD lever. Furthermore, mag changes with the Tavor started to become muscle memory with two simple movements. Like most bullpup rifles, recoil wasn't bad. Weight was pretty light, and the top rail for doodads was a little distracting while lining up the sights, but that is such a minor issue in the long run. Not going to lie, I was pretty impressed with it.
Now, my only real gripe was the trigger. It was stiff as hell and took some getting used to, but I believe that this is something that can be worked out with use, or if need be, a custom job. That being said, I've convinced the wife that I need one, but I refuse to pay GunBroker prices of $2,500 for them. I plan on waiting until I see more of then under $2,000. Maybe then I will have the 1-UP on MD & SlowRide... ;)

So the firearm we all know, and in the case of many profess an undying love for, is now over a hundred years old. Now, we all know the 1911 still goes bang when we pull the trigger, but is it really just a blast from past now? A little bit of history that tickles our fancy for owning it it, much like a 1860 Colt or a Remington 1858? In a world of high capacity polymer pistols that function on very high MRBF's (mean rounds between failures) is the 1911 simply a higher priced pistol that offers few pro's in exchange for a slew of con's? I understand that this thread may ruffle a few feathers, but rest assured that I only bring up the subject after some deep inner debate on my next pistol purchase.
Here is a video that does not reflect how I personally feel about the 1911, but is good subject matter for this discussion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfJj90eNIfE

Hello everyone.
Recently, the Almighty Mod LJ126 noticed that our site isn't showing up in search engine results. This probably explains why the site has been slow recently. I checked out Wetpaint Central to see if they had any info about this, and it seems Wetpaint is currently going through the wikis and deleting any that violate their terms of service. I'm assuming this is why wikis aren't showing up in search engines; Wetpaint probably wants to do some cleaning up before their sites show up in searches. Personally, I don't think we have anything to worry about since our Wiki doesn't inherently violate any of their terms of service, not to mention we're one of the most popular Wikis they have (See LJ's thread about our site rankings). Either way, please back up any important information that you have posted on the site, just in case. That includes pictures, survival plans, any pages with info you want to hold on to, etc. http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/ http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/thread/5076925/Announcement

Time to get back in touch with our roots a bit, and go cheap.
What are some high quality budget-minded weapon choices? We have a similar thread that's now three years old, but let's open up this proverbial can of worms and discuss. As always, I have to plug the Mosin-Nagant rifles. They're still very inexpensive (ranging from $100-250) at a gun shop, still covered in cosmoline. Ammunition for them is still available, and still fairly inexpensive if you buy in bulk. The carbine models are a bit harder to find now, but the M91/30 is available in abundance. Aftermarket options are available, if that's your thing. They usually come with everything you need (sling, ammo pouch, cleaning kit, bayonet) to take the rifle into a fight at the local range near you. I still advocate refinishing the rifle stock too; the factory shellac is junk. Strip it off, get you a water based Minwax stain (any color you want) and a 3 oz container of Tru-Oil and refinish the wood.

Well folks after much careful consideration and days of thought, I sold my 1911 to a family friend. The rest of my ammo I am going to donate to my brother. I have not shot my .45 in almost 5 months and keeping up with three pistol calibers at this time is not cost effective. So I painfully parted with it and sold it to somebody who will use it. I will more than likely look for a new Sig, Glock, or Smith and Wesson to replace it and get either a 9mm or .40 caliber. So anybody else phasing out certain calibers or types of weapons to ease the budget burden?

Its a complete AR-15 midlength w/ adjustable stock, flat top upper and a stainless .223 Wylde barrel. $499.99 plus shipping and handling. All you have to provide is a stripped lower. Whats your favourite melee weapon to use. I've been training with a switchknife but my favourite is a crowbar. it's fairly lightweight, but if you swing it hard enough it can pack one powerful blow.
