IBA

So we did some Vest PT the other day. I decided to take a picture while putting my IBA together. It wasn't quite finished. The groin protector was removed since I knew it was just going to slap me in the junk, and I hadn't (still haven't) put the supplemental shoulder/bicep armor on. With all four plates it weighs in at LEAST 20 pounds, easily more. It reduces mobility and range of motion due to the plates getting in the way. It GREATLY reduces stamina. We did a 2 mile run (clocked in at about 2 1/4 total) at an incredibly slow pace, and I was still sucking.A member of the team did not have a vest. He got mine. I got the borrowed vest that didn't fit him. For the run, everyone had stripped off everything but the front and back plates. I got a complete vest with all the molle-attached trimmings, and too small to boot. Any vest will slightly constrict your chest, but it was bad. I don't suggest ANYONE running in a vest. I barely made two miles when I usually run 5. Do you find this valuable?

Don't worry about me. I don't plan on strapping 20 lbs of plate carrying hardship around my middle. I've already got a few extra pounds of beer, fried chicken and cornbread holding me back the way it is.I'll be the guy riding by at a canter on his horse tipping his hat to all the sweaty mall ninjas in thier urban cammo BDUs, over-filled BOBs, plate carriers and thier entire gun and sword collection strapped to their backs. Yipppee ka ya and happy trails mother *******. Do you find this valuable? |

Armor can be nice at times...just not when speed matters more.

Honestly, I'd rather just not wear an IBA. Ever. And for some reason, they just keep getting bigger and heavier as the years go by. Amazing.

Eh, just get some longsleeves/jacket for zombies, and a kevlar vest for everyone else.

"And I'll happily zip by on a dual-sport crotchrocket. Because this ol' boy 'aint doin' pavement come Z-poc. Besides I'm over 40. My crotch can't handle a rocket no more. Do you find this valuable? |

"*Timber scratches his head in confusion.*Except for crossing creeks, yeah. Dualsports ride a little low for fording, and I'm WAY too short to ride the taller bikes that can handle it. I's have to carry a stool to get on. Do you find this valuable? |
