Now is this what preparedness looks like?
Feb 13 2011, 7:02 PM EST
Ready for all threats and prepared for anything. Is this what preparedness looks like or are there some key things missing here?Which would you rather have a gun safe full of guns and magazines or a fat pantry filled full of food and water? I know this is just a poster someone created for humor's sake but its what lots of people think of when they think of preparedness. Do you find this valuable?

Give me two of the rifles and two of the pistols, along with 30% of the ammo. then take the rest of the money spent and invest it in food, water, medical, camping, communication, and other supplies. Unless you I was preparing for a team of 20 or more, then that looks just about right. Hopefully the group could spend 5 times that in other supplies. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

people always prepare with guns. dont get me wrong i love guns and i own as many as i can afford.but the questions you have to ask you is: 1. how many times in life have i had to defend myself? 2. how many times have i had to use a deadly weapon to defend myself? 3. how many times in life do i have to eat to survive? after you answer those questions the starting point, and the all most important part, of your preps is food and water. i have never had to defend myself, i know some guys that have had to but it was only once or twice and they are in their 30s. but everyone who answers these questions realize that they need to eat AT LEAST twice a day. the answer is obvious. food is the most important. its better to have 3 months of food in the pantry than 100 guns and 1000s in ammo Do you find this valuable? |

Hopefully that's me in 30 years hahaha. But really though with that I'm sure he can take all the food that he wants. But in response, we don't see the rest of the guys house so we don't know if he has a huge food depot or not. And if he's packing that kind of punch I would think he does. Now that isn't even that impressive. If you want to see some amazing collections go to ar15.com and click on the armory section. God it's like going to gun heaven looking at some of those pictures! :D!

*drools over the gun prOn*.....i'm sorry, what were we discussing?i think that's a little overkill to be perfectly honest. i'd probably only have 4 or 5 main battle rifles plus a couple marksman rifles and maybe another one for a support role plus a couple of shotguns, that's only 10 or so guns. plus, everyone gets a sidearm, so that's 10 pistols.....i'd keep all the ammo though, can never have enough ammo Do you find this valuable? |

"people always prepare with guns. dont get me wrong i love guns and i own as many as i can afford. How many times have you lived with no goverment and zombies moaning at your doors? Sure, you need food much more than you need weapons, having said that I wouldn't count my self likly to survive the zombie apocalypse (or any situation for that matter) with out a quality rifle. A pistol wouldn't hurt either Do you find this valuable? |

"How many times have you lived with no goverment and zombies moaning at your doors?i said i wasnt against guns. they have their place. its better to have one or two guns that you can use well with 3 - 6 months of stored food, than it is to have all those guns and hardly any food. I think history has shown many times where well armed people or groups of people had no trouble taking food and supplies from people that weren't ....I don't think the opposite has happened muchHow many people think they could disarm a person and take their gun using a can of soup or a MRE? I have more guns ans Ammo then is in that photo but also have other stockpiles of food and supplies Do you find this valuable? |

what? he's got a whole bunch of guns and just taking a guess but 10 or so mags per gun? (not including handgun mags) If he's blasting his way through zombie infested citys and such thats not going to last long, unless he can crack a headshot every round. How much do you think he'd save if he had just 2-3 rifles and 1-2 handguns? If his avg gun cost was around 400 thats 4000+ he could be spending on survival gear and long life foods. You wouldn't even Legally be allowed to own that many guns here... and all of them would be bolt action rifles. Fat pantry full of supplies would do me rather then that... It's funny to me that some folks really think that survival is only a matter of who is the best armed. Honestly, weapons fall behind food and water in the hierarchy of importance, and one doesn't have to have a $1500 AR-15 to be adequately armed - a simple bolt rifle with decent sights or a 12 gauge (or 20 gauge) shotgun will fit the bill nicely. it makes more sense to spend money to improve your ammunition stockpiles than dropping a dime on tons of guns. Incidentally, storing magazines fully-loaded like that wears out the springs in them by forcing them to take a set - essentially, they stop functioning reliably. Yay for preparation! Also, I find it amusing that the rifles in that picture are outfitted with the latest and greatest in quad rails, optics, illumination, etc..... but apparently ONLY ONE RIFLE has a sling on it. Planning of "Wolfenstein-ing" your way through the ZedPocalypse? People shoot offhand without using a sling? Trust me, I make fun of my friends when they don't have slings on their long guns....
