Solved my 9mm and .22 dilemmas in one swoop.

Recently, you may have been inconvenienced by threads looking for feedback on what 9mm I should buy, and if I should sell my Walther P22. A couple weeks ago, at Fleet Farm, I came across a gun I was thinking of ordering from the internet. I decided the price was right and it had the features I wanted, so I put my Walther up on armslist. The following day, I had sold the P22 for roughly the same amount that I wound up paying for the 9mm. Convenient.

I went with a gun I mentioned a while back and have been reading about for months now. The Arcus 98DAC. Its essentially a compact Hi-Power clone made in Bulgaria. It met my criteria of being fairly compact and concealable, metal framed, low cost, having decent capacity, and a manual safety.

I'm not going to get into great detail with everything yet. I'll post a review later. So far, I've only ran 200 rounds through it, but I am pleased with its balance and surprising accuracy I had no jams, but I did have the first round in a mag fail to chamber a couple times when I would drop the slide. I want to run at least another 3-400 rounds through it before I start carrying it.

The same day I christened my Arcus, I dressed my Ruger MKII with some Hogue ampidexterous grips. Its like a different gun now. Recoil is non-existent and I honestly believe they aided my accuracy. I hit the same water bottle about 7 out of 10 times from maybe 60 yards away (don't know, I'm a bad judge of distance) using only the hood of my Tahoe as a rest. That's good for me, since I practice most of my pistol shooting in the under 25 yard range. Don't think I'm going to miss the Walther much, except on a tacticool level.

Feel free to hate on me for not buying a big name polymer 9 or opting for a .40. More rounds will tell, but I believe I got a winner on my hands, and I paid zero out of pocket.

You should'a got a Glock.

Seriously though the only person you really gotta please is you.

I've been trying to decide on a 9mm pistol forever myself. There are so many different choices out there. You did the right thing by asking yourself what you wanted and what you wanted it for.

Have I ever heard of an Arcus? No but I'm not that big into handguns and it shows when I discuss them here. I do keep my eyes open on handgun threads because I'd like to learn more about them.

Definitely a great looking gun, and like TR said, if it works for you, awesome. Great find, nice job! Do you find this valuable?

I thought you could solve both of these dilemmas by just buying a .45?

That's what we do, right?

Heh, yeah, until you go to buy ammo.

I have never shot the Arcus model, I am a huge fan of the High Power, I have shot the Browning, the Canadian model I think it called Iglis? correct me if I am wrong, and another knock off they were all great shooters. Do High Power accessories (mags, holsters, and etc.) work in the Arcus?

As for the .22 in my opinion the Rugers are the best .22 semiauto on the market. But they make a .22 conversion for the High Power, it could be a good way to get some good cheap practice.

I already have a highly coveted and beloved 1911 .45 which sucks to buy ammo for. Since I posted this, I have yet to shoot the Arcus again, but maybe next week I'll take $30 and pick up 150 rounds and let 'er rip (can't to that with my 1911).

From what I've read, most internals are interchangeable with Hi Power parts. I've been told to get a Hi Power holster and a pile of Mec-gear 13-round mags for it.

Shot 101 rounds today. Another 100 rounds through a filthy Arcus with zero problems, and one .38 special that got stuck in my 608's barrel. Conclusion: Arcus = good. My reloads = fail. Do you find this valuable?
