Mod the magazine to a drum fed system. Use a very large 200 round feed. Do you find this valuable?

Replace the optics with a ACOG sight for DM work, if you can afford it, a BORS computing system If you want to snipe with this thing, which I do not advise (get a LOT of batteries and stick em in the freezer, do not take em out until you need them, this will reduce lifespan from 30 hours to less than 20, but will keep the batteries from decaying)

Do you know how to construct a crude silencer? If not, hopefully you live in an enlightened area which allows you to own such items. Do keep in mind silenced ammo is much weaker, but using non silenced ammunition from a silenced weapon will usually not damage anything, and you still reduce sound and muzzle flash significantly.

be careful with drum feeds, they tend to jam. i think the highest the sks goes is 100 round, could be wrong there though.

its SUBSONIC ammo not Silenced ammo

and why in christ's name would you suggest putting a $1500 ballistic computer on a gun that maybe costs $500?

get yourself some 20 or 30 round polymer mags (don't risk denting the steel and ruining the mag.)

a synthetic stock

and a red dot sight

if you want to put a lil more money into it - a new barrel and a compensator. anything beyond that the sks doesn't deserve anything else is like gold plating a turd.

"anything beyond that the sks doesn't deserve anything else is like gold plating a turd"

Nice....I'd also suggest getting a Fiberforce stock for the SKS....It has a Dragunov-esque stock and can fit the polymer mags....Go with the 20 round mags or or lower as anything past that has been known to jam and not load the rounds correctly or not even load the rounds at all.

Well, not the SKS. I might stick one on a garand, 30-06 is a decent round, it is very reliable, product of america. Do you find this valuable?

not on a suplus gun, not on any surplus gun.

stuff like that belongs on bolt action rifles like the remington 700 and the steyer ssg. a good general rule to follow is that the gun should ideally cost more than the optics.

the exception being a NV sight. which are becoming more and more economical by the day. i swear i was in mejiers the other day and they had a pair of nv goggles in the toy department, not some dinkey lil flashlight with a green lense on it, real infrared goggles. for $80.

Can’t speak to the SKS’s drum mag, but I know the AR-15 and Range Rifle’s Beta mags are pretty good, though the one time I loaded one it took me for fucking ever… Do you find this valuable?

Yeah, sorta like having spinners on your car that costed more than the car itself along with a bass system that costed 3 times as much as the whole rig.

Sporterization on an SKS is different from pointless over-RIS on an SKS....You're modifying the firearm to suit your needs without making it look trashy with sporterization, although some sporterized SKSs I've seen looked like crap and some RIS SKSs looked pretty good...It all depends and as they say, to each their own.

"(In refrence to putting high-end accessories onto am M-1 or SKS): not on a suplus gun, not on any surplus gun."
I have an SKS; Nice hunting gun (not what I want to kill skin jobs with, but a nice hunting gun). Yes, I admit it’s still got the wood stock and original sites, but if I had the money, I’d put every God-damned bell, whistle, and dangly I got lay hands on. (Ok, maybe not the danglies…)
Just because it’s no longer in active militry service doesn’t make it “bad,” it just means the technology has overcome it; The M-1 and M-14 are still great guns (admittedly, both still see limited service). Give them a second look, they (and many others) really deserve it.

i'm not banging on the sks or the m-1, the m14 the mauser, mosin nagant, the number four enfields. They are all solid rifles. i mean the british solider could fire 40 aimed shots a minute with the enfield. And alot of modern custom hunting rifles use the mauser action.

but heavenly was suggesting putting $3000 in optics on guns that wouldn't cost more than 400.

Since Heavenly has the bling-bling optics theory for guns, I'd love to see what his car and house looks like... XD

-_- House? looks normal. I am a friggin poor college student, engineering student too! I can't afford a fancy house.

I have begun designing a fortified house though :D

My dad is around here anymore, so I got his bimillenial edition Mercedez-Benz SUV, tricked out metal thingies. It cost quite a bit and gets incredibly poor milage, but it feels like a vault, and has decent power.

10 mile range? Does any infantry small arms have a 10 mile range?

no, nothing small arm. Its basically a velocity issue. when a gun fires a bullet faster than the speed of sound, you creat a small sonic boom near the back of the round, but when the bullet slows to a certain point, the sonic boom overtakes the bullet causing turbulance. Basically you need either a very fat, slow projectile fired in a good arc, or a very very hot round. I think Reddson was merely exaggerating in sarcasim. i might mount something like that to a big .50 or a 20mm, but 2miles is the most i've ever heard. Do you find this valuable?

I know brandon. I was being sarcastic.

20 MM rifles tend to be classified as infantry-direct fire artillery though.

Well, I'm a very poor college student in an apartment and I have a mountain bike in place of a car, so you're better off than me :P

So...I decided I'm getting an SKS and I'm taking a trip to Home Depot for a better finish...the convo with the clerk might go like this:

Clerk: "Hi, are you going to stain some flooring?"

Me: "Nah, I'm looking for a pretty finish for my SKS battle-rifle."
