My Concept Support Weap:

A modified version of the M-1919 .30 cal, belt fed machinegun, BUT with the following changes:
1. An adjustable wire stock (it can slide in so I can mount it to a vehicle on a fairly free-pintle mount);
2. Forward-folding bipod legs (so it can be used for squad support);
3. Disintegrating metal clip belt, rather than the original design cloth belt.
The M-1919a (pictured) is very close in basic concept, though not exactly the same as it has a fixed stock and the bipod is far too forward. (Unfortunately, my art skills aren’t strong enough to make the pic myself.)

AJR,

You've pretty much pictured the 1919A6, fixed stock "long trigger" and the metal links that were standardized in late 50's. NATO spec ammo for the 1919A6 in 762x51.
IIRC Israel also selected this kind of design when they repopped many of their 1919 guns.

Good work on a functioning arm that still continues to soldier on. In post-Zed times something so dependable would be an addition that any Team would find use for.

FWIW, I know the specs (I had them memorized for a while), and the pic is an a, I’m actually hoping someone with more skills than me (which means at least ONE) could create a decent pic of my concept gun… Do you find this valuable?

The 1919 was chosen by the Israelis over the M-60 for it's abillity to withstand sand and dust. I believe they can use metal desintegrating links they originally used cloth belts because the era it was introduced in similar to the old vickers which uses cloth belts. The M-37(close cousin to the 1919), I believe, is the one which has to have cloth belts as it's mechanism draws rounds out of the belt instead of driving them forward on a feed tray stripping them from the links, but I may be wrong . 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Why the forward folding legs? Sounds like they would hang up easier than rear folding.

With no option for quick changing barrels, you would melt it if in a sustained fight. M1919 were good wepons and its son, the wonderful M2 50 cal goes to show that the design was sound enough to make it 80 plus years. But newer better weapons will work better I think. Any of Stoners contributions during Vietnam would make you drool. They have a new and improved version of the M-60 out for testing now. new metals used in the barrel let you rip 850 rds+ without let up on the trigger. The name of the company escapes me right now but look it up on youtube. it is an awesome video Do you find this valuable?

Byates: So they can still be mounted onto a vehicle.
ALMostFoul: So it will have to be desigend with a quick-change barrel.
