This is why any Tom, Dick, and Harry shouldn't screw around with lowly blasting caps. They're not much bigger than a pencil but obviously enough to leave you with a face that will stop traffic the rest of your life. If your in the business (this guy was) and your priming a borehole for a shot, never use your teeth to crimp a non-electric cap. Always use a crimping tool and do it behind and to the side of your body...better an ass cheek than the pain and suffering this poor bastard had to endure.

Wowzers,
I was 0351 in the Corp and use to teach basic demolitions to the new guys. Saw one gent blow his right knee cap off with a bc when he basically just dropped it after crimping and it just tapped the side of his leg.
When we crimped we would hold both hands above our heads and announce, in a loud and clear voice, "Crimping!" so everybody around us knew to move away. Granted we won't be announcing ourselves with Zeds around. But then again... we were wearing helmets as well.
Poor bastard. We use to have a saying about explosives "The only true Explosive Experts are dead. They learned the ultimate lesson."
