i dont think one would need more than one pistol, unless he or she expected to lose one or had different caliber ammo.
or, in a specialty matter a flare gun, but, firing a gun would have the same effect, both to attract attention and be rescued, and to bring in a horde of zombies.

no dual wielding either, unless you're good enough to aim two pistols in opposite directions and hit the targets you are aiming for...
