Barbed Wire for defense

Barbed wire will work if that's your ony choice but it's very easy to get over. A better option would be "C" wire or Concertina Wire aka. Razor Wire is much better.Any other suggestions? Do you find this valuable?

"A better option would be "C" wire or Concertina Wire aka.I love the idea of concertina for defense. It grabs everything and can be a real pain to try to unattached yourself from. *Edit- Only if you have enough to triple strand it though, otherwise it's pretty easy to just stomp flat. http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/photo/10612832/Concerntina+wire+%22triple+stranded%22 Do you find this valuable? |

Razor Wire is much better.yeah, razor wire is by far the best, that mixed with some buried stakes is probably one of the best/cheapest defenses. and may be an abatis (layed down trees facing outside) with some trous de loup traps (holes in the ground with stakes at the bottom) Do you find this valuable? |

Other defenses? For the windows on my house this is my thinking.... Obviously 3/4" plywood to start with but I put a sheet on the inside and outside of the window and (time permitting) I'm going to use the 1/2" drill bit that's 16" long and literally drill through the outside plywood, through my house, and through the inside plywood and connect the 2 pieces with a 1/2" nut and bolt. Do this in all 4 corners and have 3" drywall screws also securing the plywood to the walls. I see so many times in movies that the plywood gets ripped off and then they are left with just a window standing in the way. With this set up, who or whatever is trying to rip down my window barriers will literally have to try and rip the wall right off of my house. Do you find this valuable? |

"Other defenses?"I'm a believer of the "if you don't have it now, you won't be able to get it then" theory so most of my planning is preemptive in nature. If I had a limitless spending limit, I could make a house as safe as any Swiss bank. But since that's not going to happen anytime soon, other defenses....... - I like the idea of something explosive at each corner of the yard. Say, the small propane tanks? (The small green ones) - Not to hard to rig up some sort of trip wire around your property. Specifically to trip thoughtless zombies running full speed at you. 550 at knee level ought to do it. - Something to let you know they are coming. (Hobo alarm system) Empty cans with a few pebbles in them. Put them on the above mentioned 550. Edit*- The tanks are to shoot at. Don't go leaving rigged explosives lying around your yard for kids to find. Do you find this valuable? |

If I had a limitless spending limit, I could make a house as safe as any Swiss bank. But since that's not going to happen anytime soon,Funny you should talk about explosives because that's what I do for a living. Yes I will have explosives but my housing complex will be easily defendable so I will place the explosives around the perimeter of my housing complex. My complex already has 7' high brick walls all the way around and every back yard has 6' high brick walls. Only 2 enterances and one is the "fire enterance" which is already gated so I will block off the non-gated enterance with sandbags, wood, and whatever else I can find and use the gate to my advantage. Hopefully if the other occupants of my housing complex aren't already mindless Z's I will do my best to rally them together. Hopefully that won't be too hard since a lot of them are Air Force and hopefully they follow my lead since I'm a Marine but we'll see how that plays out. I will of course still fortify the hell out of my own house just in case. My house will come first and then if I have time the housing community. Do you find this valuable? |

Not many houses can handle a long siege. In big numbers your average man can tear a house down to it's supports in a rather short time.So here is the defense I'd go with. Secrecy. Do not let them know you're there. :) 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Not many houses can handle a long siege. In big numbers your average man can tear a house down to it's supports in a rather short time.Haha... Yes but when that can't be achieved because eventually the survivors will be looking for supplies I want my house to be very well fortified. Then I will move on to my housing community. I already have a crew of about 12 coming with me and half are Marines and then I have about another 6-7 coming in from Texas (all former Marines) to help defend our "castle". "Haha...Well you could fortify your whole house or just creat a bug out room. Fortify it, stock it, and hide it. It would be a lot faster than doing up your whole house. Because it sounds like you plan to ditch the location fortifying everything seems semiwasteful. ~~The Bug Out Room idea also keeps your activities secret so that other people don't see the details of the work.~~ Do you find this valuable? |

"I don't like the Idea of being stuck in one small place when an Emergency strikes and I know no one is going to save me, I'm done in then."Not really keen on it myself. Plus my house can be easily fortified. I have only six windows within reach of the ground. Each window is 59" x 48" and I have 2 doors and a garage door. My backyard is completely enclosed by a 6' brick retaining wall and a small metal gate. Inside my house I of course have a typical house with all the amendities that make life comfortable but I also have 2 bowflex's upstairs and if I have electricity (which I plan on having because I'll be buying generators for backup) I have a treadmill and eliptical machine for cardio. Im with the fortify the whole house. That way you have breathing room and you have multiple entrances so you can leave to go out and get supplies, or you know run.I plan on leaving my house behind. But then once I can get my small encampment up. Ill just fortify tghe hell out of it. Do you find this valuable? |

Then I'd definitly look into window work. Maybe have bars that can lock over the window by stay out of sight any other time.~~But I fail to see how a BOR needs to be little. One could outfit every inner room into a hard location. Do you find this valuable? |

I've already got sand bags on stand by (just need sand obviously) and I've already found the closest sand/rock distrubuter and they are only 2 miles away. I have a ford expedition for hauling them or if need be bugging out in. I make it a common practice that my vehicles never have anything less than 3/4 tank of gas. Yes I make a lot of trips to the gas station but I'm always prepared. I will be buying my wood and generators from home depot here in the next couple of months. I freaking love home depot! And I will be acquiring some "C" wire here very shortly and continue stocking up on sand bags. Do you find this valuable? |

Someone asked me this awhile ago and I just couldn't find an aswere for him. Which is stronger to fortify inside or outside? As in will my fortification be stronger If I fortify inside the part if the windows, or the ouside part?

"Someone asked me this awhile ago and I just couldn't find an aswere for him. Which is stronger to fortify inside or outside? As in will my fortification be stronger If I fortify inside the part if the windows, or the ouside part? "I'm doing both. Not being rude so take it as such... If you read my thread from earlier, what I'm going to do is have 3/4" plywood on both inside and outside of my windows. Those will be screwed into the walls with 3" drywall screws. Then I bought a 1/2" drill bit that's 16" long, I will be drilling thru the outside plywood, thru my house, and thru the inside plywood and using a 1/2" nut and bolt to connect them. That way in order for them to be ripped off the walls you will have to literally rip out the wall of my house. Do you find this valuable? |

"I'm doing both.So in other words you're going to broadcast the existence of possible supplies inside...while your primary defense can die with a bottle of gas and a match? That don't seem too wise to me. Too close to inviting grift. Do you find this valuable? |
