Original-Sin's Char
Sorry for the long delay...
The cams were moving, and the the image of a tan sleeve holding a Glock 17. The camera started to move slower after a loud scream. Gunshots opened to the camera's left, and the camera turned over to see Recon 1 being attacked by banshees. The Recon was firing away, both of them now. One banshee did an amazing leap, and landed on the head of Recon 1, and bit and killed him.
Recon 2 reloaded his gun, and the camera started to shake. It turned once more, and the image of a deceased tore the cam off. The camera rolled away, and muffled screams came through.
Original Sin, what is your response to what just happened?

I agree with Original-Sin you have to face it power is gonna go out unless you have solar or wind power. But I do think if it gets a couple years into z-day they could introduce zombie hunting as a sport, it could be entertaining.

Oil Rig
I thought this situation over several times. Oil Rigs are nice, and although a favorite of mine.. there isn't enough room or enough of them around. Although they do have plenty of food and supplies, there isn't much else (living quarters help a butt load) the biggest plus to this is that most oil rigs have generators and the isolation.
My suggestion, would be a barge. The great thing about barges is they are selectivly mobile(you can move them when you want, and not when you dont) they have plenty of open space on them (crops(bad idea but still) fishing, and shelters) and they are extremely hard to get onto without motor skills.. (assuming zombies dont have equal motor skills to us.. they could, even so... they need a life boat and a ladder that you havn't already taken off). If your seeking Isolation, go barge.. there are more of them (get em together and form a survivor colony) plenty of room, selective isolation, minimal-plethora of supplies (depending on what they were housing) aswell as a ton of other useful shit to a survivor.
Thanks, Original-Sin
PS: Nice pic Blue. :D

Just saw "The Crazies"
In the original the disease was a parasite that spread through sexual contact.
But this film looks like a big jump.

"Why Episode 3!?!?! it's only marginally better than episode one (which sucked ash) and worse than episode two, and doesn't even compare to the original! Hayden Christensen killed both for me. and Jar-Jar killed the first one for everyone." thats my point, and why anduril pwns that plastic innuendo we call a lightsaber. and, Original-sin, since when is that what it is about? No one told me i had to choose.

What do you think?
Original-Sin, I apologize for not asking first but I did go through and make a few quick spelling edits (as well as changed clip to magazine, as there is a slight difference between the two.) I also linked your profile in as well, just to make it easier for folks to get ahold of you if they have any questions. Next time I'll PM first and let ya know I'm editing :)
Anyways, i like the page. Great use of pictures and detailed explanations make for a well rounded tutorial. Nicely done!

Religious Discussion
Fine, I'll go first; brace for impact:
An excerpt from Dawkins: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/belief/2010/dec/24/pope-benedict-thought-for-the-day
"Adam (who never existed) bequeathed his "sin" in his bodily semen (charming notion) to all of humanity. That sin, with which every newborn baby is hideously stained (another charming notion), was so terrible that it could be forgiven only through the blood sacrifice of a scapegoat. But no ordinary scapegoat would do. The sin of humanity was so great that the only adequate sacrificial victim was God himself.
That's right. The creator of the universe, sublime inventor of mathematics, of relativistic space-time, of quarks and quanta, of life itself, Almighty God, who reads our every thought and hears our every prayer, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent God couldn't think of a better way to forgive us than to have himself tortured and executed. For heaven's sake, if he wanted to forgive us, why didn't he just forgive us? Who, after all, needed to be impressed by the blood and the agony? Nobody but himself.
Ratzinger has much to confess in his own conduct, as cardinal and pope. But he is also guilty of promoting one of the most repugnant ideas ever to occur to a human mind: "Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness" (Hebrews 9:22)."

I'm just gonna throw this out there...
I don't think Glock has the brains or innovation to make anything that isn't a minor variation of the original Glock design. They've had basically one design since what.... The '80s?
However I think Glock would do very well for themselves if they brought out a pistol caliber carbine that accepted Glock mags like the KelTec carbines. It would tie in perfectly with their current product line, and honestly it wouldn't be rocket science to design and build. We know there is at least some market for Glock carbines since people keep making aftermarket kits to turn Glocks into carbines.

oil rigs
Original-Sin there are no refining capabilities on an oil rig. They pump the crude out of the ground and send it ashore to be refined.

Bigger is better
Just poppin' in to say hello, and of course to drop my 'unbiased' opinion.
Yes, there are some problems with the 'mobile fighting' scenario. A few I can point out right now; -It sounds like your going to be fighting in an urban enviroment, the problem here is your mobility is fucked. Your path will be blocked with throngs of ZEDS, corpses, road blocks, cars, and goodness knows what else. Although, Id much rather be ontop of a vehicle than on foot in this same scenario.. -Moving and shooting is horrible... driving 20-40 mph through the streets and trying to get head shots off is not going to go well. I would use stop and go tactics to conserve ammo as well as other things. -If you get surrounded... your screwed.. A vehicle weighted down with people, guns, ammo, and god knows what else is going to have trouble running down 40 skin jobs at once.
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE: -Increased mobility (most of the time) -Protection from most ZEDs -Ability to carry much more ammo and supplies.
It beats the hell out of fighting on foot (for the most part). As for the bigger is better scenario, different sizes and quantity play their own rolls and have their ups and downs. For inexperienced shooters.. keep them stationary or they will most likely shoot each other, for you hardcore marines that can actually fire acuratly from a moving vehicle... good for you :D
Buh-Bye, Original-Sin

Airborne Vector
Sometimes I become incredibly uninspired by the lack of crystallized knowledge that exists in this wiki community.
Original-Sin: not only does your scenario assume several key variables, but you make statements that are plainly wrong.
First, depending on the bacteria or viral vector, there is a dramatic range of time that the organism can survive outside the body. You assume that it is a long-lived and somehow permeates all the available air. Even the most pathogenic forms of influenza can be defeated by a simple mask. Secondly, where there ARE highly pathogenic airborne viruses, there is no case i know of, where suspect exposure 100% of the time translates to confirmed infection. For all we know, the lifespan of this vector could be under a minute.
This is not even taking into account incubation period or symptoms.
For example, if this pathogen infection included heaving cough, sneezing, runny nose or diarrhea, then the rate of infection would be incredibly significant. But again, if that pathogen had no symptoms beyond acute organ failure, than the airborne survival of the pathogen would be a relatively moot point.
There is so much more to it, but the reality is, is that there are way too many variables, even to an experience epidemiologist to make any kind of determination, especially when the pathogen is all speculation and fiction.
Even if you assume high rate of transmission, environmental resistance, high morbidity, and long incubation period, there are still bound to be survivals of an initial violent pandemic fallout. I certainly wouldn't be a candidate for survival in this situation, but there are people and groups of people who are extremely isolated from much of conventional western society.

1911 Variants
"**** Magnum Research. Arrogant bastiges. The ad they placed for their 1911 told me quite plainly that I don't really want anything they make. The 1911 never had to earn the Desert Eagle name, the Desert Eagle name had to earn THE 1911, and it hasn't.
I liked my Taurus though I sold it due to ammo (got it during the big panic), and I really like my RIA 1911A1 Tactical in 9mm I have now. YEah yeah, atrocity against JMB (PBUH) and all that, but it shoots awesome." Eh... What they did just reinforced what I already thought about the company really only known for a mall ninjas wet dream. So I didn't freak out. And their ad ticked off enough 1911 purists I know they'll never sell well.
We commit a lot of sins against JMB, if you're going to heck for owning a 9mm RIA then I'll be down there too for my 9mm EMP. I think it's worth the eternal damnation. And for the record, EVERYONE at S&W is going to hell for their external ejectors and full length guide rods!
So to add to the OP, I recently got a 9mm Springfield EMP and it's an amazing shooter, as well as a beautiful and very well made weapon. Though I've had some trouble with it feeding 147 grain JHPs. I haven't had much time or money to get to the range to do some more testing.
Whenever the gunstore gets them in stock, I'll also be adding a GSG .22LR 1911 for training purposes.

Post your answers here!
"LostInSeattle3: I'd frankly be a little be grossed out.
Original-Sin: Well in almost every zombie piece of fiction out there the 'virus', or what-have-you, is transmitted through direct fluid contact (blood, saliva, etc). It is very possible that a man who was bitten and has not yet turned could have created an infected baby, the question is... would the act of unprotected intercourse turn the woman into a ZED aswell?" LostInSeattle3: You’re very forgiving. I’d be freaked out and start killing people. Possibly at random.
Original-Sin: It’s not implausible, theoretical or otherwise. However, I suspect that, by the time she came to term, you would know, for sure and certain, if she’s infected or not. If she is, take a mallet to the back of her skull (don’t waste bullets) and cleanse the world of two skinjobs at the same time.;)

Zombies and Religion
Okay see the word zombie comes from zombi which is another name of the Vodou god Iwa Bamballah Wedo, who is of *****-Congo origin and it is similar to the Kikongo word nzambi, which means god. In the West African Vodun, the zombie astral is part of the human soul and can be captured by a bokor or sorcerer to enhance their power. It is usually kept in a bottle so, the zombi is a spiritual entity. Oh yeah and nzambi is also the name of the supreme god of the Bacongo people of Angola. As for the voodoo zombie, supposedly a bokor could bring back a dead person as a zombie, who has no will of their own. It is believed today that drugs are used instead of magic in order to create the illusion that the person was dead and was brought back to life. Before movies and books, vampires and zombies were one and the same. They were undead creatures who came back to haunt the living, usually they would suck blood and sometimes eat people too. Examples of this are Moroi and Stigoi of Romanian folklore or the Jiang Shi of Chinese folklore. It wasn't until Bram Stoker's Dracula and the movie adaptations that followed that vampires were given the attributes we now see today.
Zombies on the other hand became the creatures we see today through George Romero's Night of the Living Dead which helped separate the zombie from the vampire. Before that the book I Am Legend was released which showed these zombie vampires being created from a plague that wiped out most of man. Also in Sumerian mythology the goddess Ishtar threatens to smash the gates of the underworld and let the dead come out and devour the living. As stated before, the vikings also told of the Draugr, who would haunt graveyards and devour anyone who came near. So in all before movies and literature these proto-zombies/vampires were found all over the world with each region having a variation of the monster. It was through modern entertainment that these beings were slowly separated.
