Beacon: ZSDW RPG
I am posting a thread for this back on ZSDW for newer members to join in. We have less than 10 people playing, sadly.
Beacon is a community RPG run by Akerris, a 'great' of our site. And due to the late hour, I'm going to use the FAQ on the site as copypasta. --- Q. What is Beacon?
A. Beacon is a text based role-playing game on a Wiki format, giving it community story elements as well. The story focuses around a small survivor community, trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world after a zombie virus was unleashed on one tragic day, referred to as 'Z-Day'.
Q. What does Beacon have to offer, that I can't find somewhere else?
A. Due to Beacon being on a Wiki format, it has community story elements. Essentially, not only can you play the game, but you can help create it. We focus on entertainment of course, but also realism. Don't expect a fast paced, unrealistic science fiction game. However, don't expect a slow paced, boring game either. We try to deliver a mix of both, to deliver a refreshing experience in our current era of unbalanced RPG's. --- It was a really great gig going on when it was on this site rather than having it's own, where it got more coverage. Now our numbers are dwindling, and activity is growing less and less. We need *you*, *you* and ESPECIALLY *YOU* to get this game running again. Take a lick. You [hopefully] won't regret it.

Cheese Makers
I have noticed that we have a large surplus of milk relative to our current population. Does anyone know how we could make cheese to preserve that excess milk?

New Ammunition and Firearms Policy:
To cut down on the Bacon in Beacon, the following is being implemented for better gameplay.
No stockpiling excessive numbers of guns without good reason, nor building fully functional firearms from scratch. Rare, but actual firearms are subject to individual approval.
Every player will dump at least 75% of their ammunition into the community stockpile. They will keep track of their personal stock, which will be depleted by use during missions. There are no requirements for the latter - use your own discretion. When a player needs extra ammo, they request it from the storehouse. This way, ammo conservation becomes a part of the game, and we have an accurate count of all our resources.

Food Crisis
It seems that produce, eggs, etc. have been stolen from the farm. A lack of a department head for the Department of Agriculture has left food distribution in disarray. While some residents are very well fed others are barely getting what they need to survive. Canned food, which should be stored for emergencies, has been running out at an alarming rate.
As mayor I decree that all food shall be rationed until this situation is put under control. The farm will be put under 24 hour watch to prevent any more thefts. Resource Acquisition can only do so much before over hunting or gathering in the area. I encourage all residents to give what canned food they are able in order to create a Food-Reserve for the town.
Unfortunately no one has stepped forward to head the department of Agriculture nor has anyone approached me with the proper qualifications. I implore the people of Beacon to do what they can to aid in this crisis.
First I need a Minister of Agriculture to assist me in this endeavor. I also need volunteers from our security forces to guard the farm. Finally I want a plan to preserve our food for long term storage.
Grains can be fermented to make beer, fruit can be preserved, meat can be dried, etc.
I know this town is up to the challenge, bless you all.

Beacon Police Department.....Now Hiring!
*Jack, now wearing a fully decorated and well-fitted Police uniform, walks around the town of Beacon, posting copied Notices with the following on them:*
**************
Attention Citizens:
The Beacon Police Department is in need of Five able-bodied people to serve as Police Officers. If you're interested, please contact Jack [AgEnT_GrEEn] at the Redneck RV from 1:00 4:00PM [Anytime via post] for further information.
**Do note, you CANNOT be a part of any other Department or the BDF, but your Militia Service does not count as a Department.**
****************
*Jack finishes posting the Notices, then heads for the Storehouse and signs out the three Remington 870s, the Mossberg 500 Field and the FN Police Special. He also signs out the Makarov, the 92 and S&W M28, signing out an additional 100 shotgun shells and five shotshell bandoleers. He sets down the clipboard and does a face-palm motion after stopping for a moment to tthink*
*Realizing he was pretty dumb for not getting any help, he calls up Gothgirl and Ludka via walkie-talkie to help him out. They eventually mosey their way on over and the three get the items back to the RV*
*Jack spends the next several minutes loading the five shotshell bandoleers from the Storehouse as well as the shotguns themselves, then goes into the RV and pulls out the box of 'borrowed' Police uniforms he found at a Dry-Cleaner's a couple towns back*
*Satisfied, Jack busts out a lawn chair and enjoys a cigar with Seabass as the two Bald men and the Goth chick square off in a serious game of Magic: the Gathering. Ludka, Vikki and her purple teddy bear go on a nature walk while Cornwallis and Skeeter make crispy squirrel bits over the campfire, the track Glory Hunter by Armored Saint plays on the radio next to Skeeter with moderate loudness*

Reporting For The Army
I arrived yesterday with a "sniper" rifle and my shotty backup. I have no formal Army Training but I am trained in both chemical and mechanical engineering (which will help) and can plink targets at 1000 yards with my rifle, or any rifle that we can get click cards made up for.
I have a modicum of explosives training and could, given enough time in the base, procure items that would melt through full plates of steel, and if i get lucky, even some c4... rather, the un plasticized form called rdx.
I made about 25 unconfirmed kills two days ago to the east, a few barbaric looking guys were walking around in a clearing aroung 1000 yards away from myself, I managed to take down what seemed to be half of their group, and went through 26 shells, but i think i missed with one. I would have brought the weaponry but they dragged the bodies away before i could get the rest of them.
So yeah, marksman here.

Call for troopers, marksman/recon, NCO & officer candidates
I intend to publish duties for each rank/position.
In the meantime, I need a listing of volunteers for each rank (everyone is a trooper until 'basic' training is completed) and qualifications for NCO and Officer candidates. Obviously, the best marksmen are eligible for ranger/recon rank after special training.
NCOs and officers slots are few and based upon the total # of the force. We cannot be top-heavy.
With a notional BDF of 25-30, 3 can be officers, 6 NCOs and the rest are troopers.

We need Fuel...
I've found that few of those bringing vehicles are willing to part with any fuel. Our current fleet is mostly heavy vehicles, humvee, the M35, and the like. They're diesel gas guzzlers and we're not going to just find extra fuel. I know alternate electricity is being constructed, but we don't have the resources to convert all these vehicles to a delicate electrical system.
I'm thinking something along the lines of biofuel. If we can find a way to produce biodiesel, we'd be in the green. Until then, we've only got the gas in the tanks to work with, and that ain't much...
See if you guys can find such components. If you can find gasoline, propane, great. We need those for heating, cooking and sterilizing. Post whatever you find on this thread.

Community Inventory
Could all donations and uses of the Beacon inventory be recorded here. I understand IrishHitman, WhyBother08 and a number of others have already donated some small arms, if those could be posted here as well, that would help organization greatly.

Beacon Military vs Militia Uniforms
This is directed to Maj. Damage, and the Mayor. I was wondering what our uniform in the Beacon Military will be? (ACU, MARPAT, etc.) I think the Military Surplus has a variety of uniforms in quantites that would be available to all the Soldiers and Militia Men.
Now the other question is should the Soldiers have a different uniform than the Militia? Thank's for the help.

Military Surplus Scavenging Mission
On the way to the hardware store I remember seeing a sign for a military surplus warehouse. It should be about 8 miles northwest from the Radio Shack.
*Points to a black circle on my map.*
Even if we don't find any weapons or ammunition we may find some ammo cans for storing our munitions, uniforms so the militia has a uniform, load bearing equipment, or even some camelbacks for personal use.
I would like to clear this with the Mayor, Carn, and Maj. Damage. I don't want a repeat of the hardware store.

Welcome
To anyone seeking treatment of their injuries or ailments come in and take a number. I try to make it a first come first serve basis but, some of our boys may get injured and I will always treat in order of the highest acuity. I try to stay on top of the reports to get those wounded fixed up asap. Kinelta will be assisting with this along with helping with prenatal care and child birthing. Meanwhile lets get your vitals and get you back in the game.
