World War Z: The Exact Location of the Battle of Yonkers
Hey guys. I searched around for a little bit on google maps, and I found the EXACT place where the battle of Yonkers took place. Everything fits the description. The Apartment building, the A&P, the highway, the creek... It wasn't quite how I'd expected it. I expected it to be more open, with less trees and more room for vehicles. With all the trees blocking the view the battle seems less epic than I had imagined. What do you guys think?
1233 Nepperhan Avenue, Yonkers, NY or search, "Yonkers, NY, A&P" and click on the A. Then use street view and click on the intersection or the freeway.

A secret
I have heard from a reliable source that in a secret military base, they are holding a virus that causes symptomes like a zombie virus. I believe what this person has said and I just wanted other people to know that there is something that can cause a zombie outbreak.

Correction
That image is not of a M224 mortar (despite the fact that it comes up in a Google Image search). It is a picture of an earlier US mortar system - the exact nomenclature escapes me right now, despite an 11C telling me about 3 hours ago.
The M224 that is used today has a different look to the tube, and a round base plate.
Unless there are objections, I plan on updating this page when I'm on leave next week.

Rewrite for Scrounger Training: Military Equipment Ready
I read the thread on what to do if I think this page is ready, and that would have led me to PM 16 Moderators and 111 Writers, and that struck me as spamming. If that is still the desired way to submit page re-writes I have no problem doing it, but I wanted to check before sending 127 PMs.
Either way, this REWRITE is ready to go live: http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/page/Scrounger+Training%3A+Military+Equipment+%28REWRITE%29
It is a rewrite of the Military Equipment page. The current page has the word yellow, and some military flares, and clearly states its a work in progress. The replacement page(s) contain information on Large (20mm+) Ammunition, Small Arms ammunition, a general ammunition overview including crates and markings, Hand Grenades and some plagiarism of the Maritime Flares stolen from the original page.
I do intend on adding to the pages, especially military communications equipment and vehicles, but the pages as-is are complete and ready to go, and there's no way a reader of the pages would know more is coming. I'm also willing to add information as questions are posed - the grenades page is a response to a user's request.

Nuclear and other power
We think that it is a FACT that when SHTF there will be no power. However, as the number of humans decreases, so does the power consumption. There are a lot of power plants that can work with little to no maintainace such as hydro, wind and solar(dont tell me there is none in your relative vicinity) which can easily power a large group of survivors. I do not know if nuclear power plants could continue to work but they were not on my mind.
I have aircraft carriers and submarines on my mind. Their reactors are built to live long and they have all the crew they need to sustain it. I doubt the military will need all of its nuclear powered vessels and I see no reason why would not they provide power to the public(survivors). It is a win-win situation. Military gets the control, people get power, protection and help in general(assuming that the military does not decide to go rogue). Those mobile reactors just COULD provide enough power for survivors...
Sure, power relays can fall, but they can be repaired as well

My Variant of the end times.....
Although I agree with you there on many points,I believe society would not crumble as easily as you say.I reckon,if the Military/LE/Security forces become ruthless in their quest to stop the virus(i.e destroying densely infected areas with say, nuclear weapons or heavy bombardment) then they might still survive in a slightly diminished manner.
They could quarantine or abandon entire states/provinces/cities depending on the situation. They could either hole up in bastions of civilization or hole up the zees.
Small groups of vigilanties, raiders and thugs would thrive in the infected areas.

...And then what?
I like what you've done so far, I do agree that this is what would happen Pre-zed day. But what happens next? I was kind of hoping for some timeline of what happens after it, and as far as I can tell all you really explain is what would happen before the day (which really is just if not more questionable than what will happen after).
Prehaps make points on say - One week after? -One month (28 days later)? -One year? -Ten years? Just what I think :)

Air Force; What to expect
Hey everyone, I just enlisted in the Air Force. I've done some research on it, tried to read everything I could about it from their website, and asked my recruiter lots of questions but I still am curious on what's going to happen. Can anyone who has Military experience describe the training to me? I know it'll be difficult, but I'd like a little detail.
Thanks a lot.

Post Z-day military
After the zedpoc is done and over eventually people will probably get a little violent and agressive especially the dictatership ones. So to me it would be essential to have some sort of military for defence and also because most survivors would flock towards the dude with a big army to defend them against raiders, enemy settlments, hostile looters, etc. So the main question im asking would be how would you think these survivor armys would be? How organized, average weaponry, how big, do they make there own weapons or replicate weapons they have found or would they solely depend on scavenged weaponry. Also another question should be how well trained would these ''soldiers'' [ i use that term very, very lightly] be how would they be trained would they mainly get police officers, national guard, and military to train them or would they have to primarily have to rely on just the guy who does alot of research into the subject but has no experience? i must admit if it were zombies this wouldnt be happening for generations until the zombies rott away, but if it ends up in a major rage infection this may start happening within a few years because the infection will eventually burn itself out. so to my fellow ZSDW community members i hope this becomes a very intelligent conversation please.

Would they do that?
What do you think the military will do in a zombie invasion? I know they will most likely put up barricades and try to "quarantine" but do you think they will resort to tactical nukes?
If so then that would leave almost (i said almost) all vehicles useless. How what that change your survival plan?

vehicels
The black truck pictured here is the Conquest vehicels Knight xuv. It is a purpose built armored car designed from the same matirials as the buffalo (or so they claim). Unfortunatly, to make parts common world wide the truck's drive line is composed of FORD F550 parts. Not to be anti FORD, but a few of my co workers are ford dorks and as pro ford as they are, they tell lots of horror stories of how often the torque shift transmission (which they call a torque ****) goes out, and they claim the triton v-10 is a gutless gas hog as well as the 6.3 power stroke (which they call a power joke) they say is also a gutless wonder. I dont own a ford so when ford guys say it sucks, i take thier word for it. The Knight XUV comes standard with a torque shift tranny and only offer the 6.3 power stroke and triton v-10 as options. But then agen, i guess if u had the $350,000.00 to buy one, it would stand to reason that you would have the cash to install a Cat/Allison combo (or whatever motor/tranny combo you'd prefer). To give you an idea of how big it is, it stands 8 ft tall, 8ft wide, 20 ft long, and they claim to seat 7 NBA stars comfotably. As standard, it rides on 48inch bfg run flats, and claim to be bullet resistant up to a .50 cal browning BMG round. I wouldent mind haveing one come Z-Day.

On credibility
This article isn't concerned with the believability of any virus. It assumes that a particular virus IS true, and HAS happened, and then describes the course of events that follow, using as much logic as possible and in other places giving reasons why.
Everyone has their own opinions about how realistic the scenarios are, but that's discussed in another article! ;)

Believability of "Rage" virus
I don't see how the Rage virus is any more realistic than other Z-viruses. There is no way a virus can take hold that fast without at least a minimal incubation period. Look at Morningstar, the virus that creates Sprinters and later Shamblers. The least amount of time it takes to take effect is 45 minutes, and that's if someone is traumatically introduced to the virus. Otherwise, it usually takes a week.
In fact, there is no zombie that is the most "realistic". Although I understand that living people "raging" infected by a virus is more believable than undead, nearly-indestructible zombies, the Rage virus is, to me, the LEAST unrealistic of any Z-virus.
If you really think that a virus like Rage can happen that fully infects people within 5-30 seconds, than I can say that undead zombies can happen.

Mental compacity
This article is very good. I think you make quite accurate judgments about the consequences of a large-scale outbreak.
However, jmc95's statement about us using only 10% of our brain capacity is mis-informed. It is a myth that we use a fraction of our brains. All parts of the brain are always being used (at variable levels) even during sleep.

Overwhelmed Military?
Here is my stance on a full scale level 4 Z-Day outbreak and the military.
Firstly I do not believe the military will be overwhelmed and destroyed While there may be mishaps in the beginning if bases start rushing people in and accidentally get a infected or soon to be zombie. ((which I doubt btw)) But generally I believe that rescue efforts will be planned out well and very successful.
Still such planning leads to much sacrifice and days, weeks, or even months till rescue is possible in the worst areas. That is if fire bombing, nerve gas, or other extreme measures arent used. Which is possibile in heavily infected urban centers is utilized which is fairly possible.
Best recommendation is pretty basic and echoed through this website That is to be far away from urban areas, Get your supplies but learn and practice skills necessary for survival with or without supplies.
