  • Sandpaper ******... Or Why Talking Religion Is Like Having Seks With A Condom Lined On Both Sides With Sandpaper

    By Steven of the Carn-Evil

Picture a house with stilts and hold it in your mind. It's held up by four solid posts at each corner. This is your world. Your inner house.

Now imagine someone comes up and starts hacking on one of those posts. "This isn't needed" they say as your house begins to tip.

That is someone hacking on a personal conviction. You have based your world on it and now that support (and thus your world) is threatened.

Any person who says that they will not go ******* over that is lying to everyone.

There may be different ones but thus far no one is totally exempt. I have yet to meet anyone who is absolutely logical and from what I know of humans everyone has something.

Yes I'm saying atheists have that ******* button too.

This is why few religious discussions ever work. Both sides are too deep inside different parts of their heads and pulling too hard makes this go bang.

This is why above all respect must be given to both sides. It's why I rarely participate in religious discussion anywhere. It's just not a productive use of time.

And this is so because the only ones looking to debate the issue are so deep in it that their minds are made up. It's not about what "may" exist but what "does". In other words it's an absolute. Notice every "discussion" turns into a challenge to prove that a deity exists?

Politics is similar with one problem. It involves everyone so it can't be avoided.

Personally in regards to this site Religion is just not a possible discussion. How many here can honestly call themselves on the fence about it? How exactly would a religious discussion be monitered and how can it remain friendly? Religion is not logic. cont

  • America is screwed http://www.businessinsider.com/the-only-chart-you-need-to-see-to-understand-why-the-us-is-screwed-2011-2

This is happening, and yet people are wailing that 4 trillion dollars in cuts over TEN years is insane!
Do the math, 80 billion is about 2% of the federal budget. Now that is insane .

  • My views post-Z Day. I believe that:

1)I would organize with my closest friends and family, and use old family farmland for an arable fortress
2)That generosity can breed both friendship, peace and dependence
3)That cruelty and greed breed contempt and security

So you have to get a balance.I believe that uncalled for and plain wrong/sadist violence is unecessary, but self defense or desprate foraging are valid reasons for initiating or reacting to a situation with violence.Negotiation and diplomacy can be used to,but tread carefully.....after Z day nobody can be trusted.

I also believe in an egalatarian society, where resources are shared equally but are sought after to improve everyones standard of living.

  • Ruthless bandit or Generous Despot? I'm very tied on this issue my conscious says i should help bring back civilization after all the Infected/Zombies are gone but i very much want to be some kind of ruthless and blood thirsty bandit king.

I don't know which one to choose if I chose rebuild civilization it be highly unlikely people would want to follow a 14 going on 15 year old despite my adult stature [I'm 6 feet 4 inches and 162 pounds]

But I could probably more likely be able to start a bandit crew i just have to be tough have a good gun and be very ruthless to attract recruits.

So can anybody help me here i don't know what to choose though I'm leaning on becoming a bandit id probably die young but I would have a lot of fun before I'm dead so can anybody help me?

Another thing that would hinder my chances of becoming a leader and recreating civilization is that I'm an Atheist and most people I've met have very negative views of Atheist so i don't see many of them being keen on being led by one.

  • Political Compass Recently the question was asked as to what types of people would be left: what kinds of morals, views, outlooks. Most people assume that the survivalist mentality is one that is right-wing, authoritarian and militaristic. I disagree. We have people
