  • Idea For a Page – Entities Post Z-Day It’s been a few months since I was last on the wiki, I thought I’d thoroughly exhausted every angle there was about zombies. Then it came to me, what entities could exist post-Z-Day?
By entities, I mean groups of people working together in an organisation of some sort for a specific goal other than just individual survival. Let me give you some examples:

1.A re-emerging city-state. Think of the Governor’s city from the Walking Dead; this is a group of survivors who have become numerous enough to re-establish an old city. These could become effective trading posts etc.

2.A military contingent. This could be a group of soldiers who are still engaging with missions despite losing all contact with their commanding officers.

3.A re-emerging corporation. With the vast wealth and private security forces employed by modern day corporations they are sometimes better equipped than nation states are. It isn't too farfetched to think that a corporation with a private military could retain control of an area of industry, e.g. mining. The resources could then be sold to survivors in exchange for work, ammunition, food etc.

4.Farms. When I say farms, I’m not talking about single man or small farms that exist to sustain a small family. I’m talking about larger farms which could feasibly export goods.

I’m sure there are dozens more of these possible entities and I believe the wiki would benefit from a page detailing them alongside short descriptions of their theoretical roles in the new world. It might even be worth analyzing the likelihood of each one coming about.

Anyway, let me know what you think, is it worth pursuing such an area of study for the wiki and is anyone interested in working on it with me? It would probably involve reading journal articles, some basic political works and doing a wee bit of research into history and the development of governance.
    It's good to be back,

  • Endotown Well, never fancied myself a mayor, nor any other sort of politician, a class of occupation I consider a necessary evil. So, I'll deal with the issues and some fundamental points of order for my community as we go.
First, in a potentially violent survival situation, I think there is no justification for anyone in the community to be unarmed, and anyone who isn't should be assisted in attaining some weapon they can use. Furthermore, while the Militia may be the standing army, every able bodied adult should be part of the defenses in extremis. Sunday afternoon drill for all!

  • My nation My nation shall be known as Wise County Confederation or W.C.C. The government system is a confederate system and would allow "states" to govern themselves more or less how they see fit with the central government being the sum of of it's parts
the central laws that should be expected are as follows:

All people will be held to a certain fitness and combat training level men, women, children, even the wealthy and political leaders (as long as it doesn't interfere with a direct positive effect politically culturally or economically)

NO ONE is exempt from the draft during wars or skirmishes unless they are more valuable, directly to the war effort as a citezen instead of a soldier

It's a dog eat dog world if somebody steals your stuff we might not have the resources to take care of it but no one cares if you deal with it yourself (but I intend to recruit a police force quickly so you should wait up a bit)

Now I should make a mention that this society would be incredibly right-wing(at least me and my friend/ally) and monarchial but none of the really bad parts but with a democratic version of an oligarchy as a central government your essential freedoms will not be at risk

So does anyone want to become a Citizen

By the way in serious need of engineers... I have a plan

  • PACScenario- Haven I did the math, and i found that about 208 people are working and with the 30 protesters, that makes 12 people who arent working. assuming this isn't because of age or sickness, as those people ought to have died already while I was securing the city, i will imediately put them to work, 3 as foresters, and the rest as scavengers and hunters. they are to accompany the experienced scavengers and hunters for experience, and after three months they will be by themselves.

As a matter of the drug cartel, i will only allow the drugs to be sold to medical docters to treat pain. nonprescribed use will be made illegal and if the officers find drugs they are to hand them over to medical docters. previously sold drugs will be allowed to be used as they were bought before i decided this.

Dealing with two problems at once, the Bayside Springs request and the protesters, i will announce that any protester who wishes to not be under the influence of the government, they are welcome to go aid Baysides Springs and when they are done, they can go wherever they want to, or stay there. They are welcome to take the guns and melee weapons they have with them, as well as 5 pistols with 80 rounds, 3 shotguns with 60 rounds, and 2 semi auto and one auto rifles with 200 rounds. i expect at least ten of them to go.

I will answer the call from Ravens Peak by sending the ammo along with 10 militia members armed with 5 semi auto rifles and 5 auto rifles with 30 rounds to the semi auto and 120 to the auto to clear the roads as much as they can.

To deal with the strikes by contacting the ITU to allow them to create a marketing system that works, but i will have it read over by the entire council before approving it. i will answer the farmers by sending 5 militia with a rifle and 30 round each as protection and 10 maintence to fortify the farm further, and i will cut the number of token the council gets per day to 10, making the farmers the richest.

  • Welcome to Zanzibar (vote for Pedro). I proclaim this city as Zanzibar.
Flag - green X on a white flag.
    NEW LAWS
I establish myself as supreme dictator and give all citizens of Zanzibar the right to vote me out after one (1) year. any elected preZident can be voted out or be voted to stay in office.
City council = fired (as they are creating problems and the people wouldn't disagree) and a new council will be chosen out of new applicants.
    - The council's new job is not to vote or decide on matters; but to hear the peoples grievances and present those issues to me, acting as my advisers. I can fire anyone after bringing the matter to court and showing guilty verdict.
    - Court Consists of 12 jury members - all citizens except for the preZident and council can be on jury. There must not be a conflict of interest (jury can not be the accused's family or fellow workers).
    - all are entitled to either self-represent or seek anyone to represent them.
    - all have the right to a fair hearing and trial.
    - all have the right to present evidence and call witnesses.
    - a guilty plea may be negotiable to a reduced sentance with enforced rules and sanctions - in low-scale crimes only.
    - Jury members will be given perks (pay for work missed, 1 days food rations for them self).
    - all citizens are entitled to one meal per day - supplied by the government and distributed at 6:00 pm daily/ free of charge.
    - tokens will be kept in circulation.
    - new wage rates: farmers = 13/ daily. Militia = 12 daily. Maintenance = 10 tokens daily. All administrative workers (police, doctors, council, teachers, me, etc) = 12/daily.
    - Anyone can open their own practice or Artisan (shoe maker, baker, mechanic, etc) and charge their own rates for goods or service.
    - all admin services (teacher, doctor, school, etc) are made public. One can still open a side-practice and charge their own rates.
    - legal representation, you must have been on jury

  • The problems with the City Scenario I can't accept this scenario, because too may of the posits are things I would not allow to happen.

    In order:

Two people die a month at the farm? Unacceptable. Twenty-five minutes by car could be 12.5 miles or 29.2 miles. Having an outpost that far, that unprotected just doesn't make sense. You could easily convert any greenspace in a city to farmland. The scenario says four years, so you could have lost up to 96 people.

A militia that couldn't cope with Raiders? You have erected walls and other fortifications. Those kidnappings and thefts should never have happened. 10-20 Raiders against 30 Militia plus whatever defenders you can muster behind fortifications (no matter how rudimentary) would be cut down in short order if there were even a few competent shooters on the defending side.

Only two elected positions that are ultimately powerless? Look, either you say outright that you are going the benevolent dictator route, or you go the democratic route. Don't try and pacify the obviously pissed off populace with these powerless positions. No wonder you have problems.

3 day jail term for spitting gum in the street? What use is that?

Maintenance team earns 6 tokens a day, which is enough for one bowl of stew. Yet being on the council earns 15 tokens? Bollocks.

Adonias are allowed to push drugs, and you have gum laws?

Dawn, Bayside and Ravens should have been consolidated the moment your city was settled and ready. Even if it meant giving up control, more people would mean better security.

Fourteen months and you haven't made contact with Dawn? Three months and you haven't contacted Ravens? Why so long?

Quite honestly, at this point the running of the city has been mishandled so badly the best thing the leader could do is resign.

Roll the clock back to the founding of the city, and it might be workable.

  • Hope - My City Listed below are first the changes I have made to my city, and then how I would go about solving the problems posed to it.

Militia - I have recently passed a law that requires twenty more people to be enlisted as non-active duty members. This basically means that they get more weapons and ammo and training, but also have to be pulled into service whenever they are needed.
Also, I have passed new laws stating the Militia must use their melee weapons and any ranged weapons that can be made that are renewable (Bows and arrows, a sling, etc.) against zombie threats unless absolutely necessary; the ammo is to be reserved for fighting off the raiders whenever they strike.

The Police Force - Their task is changed from patrolling the city (Which the Militia now does in groups of 3 or 4) to defending the farmers so that we don't lose two every month (If I can't stop them from dying, I'm f*cked). Their numbers are also raised to ten. They are armed with mostly melee weapons and renewable ranged weapons, like the Militia, but also carry one pistol each for dire emergencies. They live outside of the city with the farmers.

Rations - Instead of ration tickets, rations go by this system:
A Meal consists of one Main Dish, two Side Dishes, one Drink, and an infinite amount of water. Everyone is entitles to three Meals a day. Everyone is given three Meal Tickets a day (To ensure that nobody gets more than three meals). The individual parts of each Main Dish and Side Dish are varied, and are chosen by the person getting the meal (A Main Dish one day may consist of either two chicken legs or a bowl of soup etc.). Unfortunately, this has brought on an underground trade of meal tickets (No counterfeit, as the tickets are different each day) for other goods etc. For the most part, this doesn't effect much, but it is rather annoying to the Council and the other citizens of Hope.

  • La République of the Irish Hitman The Militia:
Reformed as the Army of the Republic, military discipline imposed. Professional forces doubled to 60 men and women, all other citizens considered reservists. Guerrilla and assymetric warfare concepts adopted wholesale, ambush positions established around the safe zones, recon given high priority

    The City Council:
Council to be renamed the Assembly, to compose of 5 members elected bimonthly (at first), with a sixth person to be elected as President for the same terms. President has a small cabinet of ministers, and a council of advisors from key sectors of society.

Once reforms have been brought in, the Assembly will have full powers over civilian government, but anything of direct military consequence shall remain in the hands of the senior military commander (i.e. moi). Democratic legitimacy to be considered at the forefront of the continued existence of civilised society. Reforms outlined in these posts will be enshrined constitutionally.

    The Police Force:
Accountable to an independent judiciary, composed of a lawyer or two (considering the rash of lawyers Western societies have, it is statistically very likely there'll be a few floating around). A civil legal system to be imposed, rather than a common law one.

    Maintenance Team & Farmers:
National service introduced for all able-bodied citizens, who must give up a certain amount of their time to maintenance or farming as needs must. This is done to avoid social stratification, a key cause of needless public unrest in the long term. Professional farming and maintenance staff to be kept as supervisors and training staff. Decentralised food growing to be encouraged as well; all citizens to grow their own food on any spare patch of earth or pots they can find.

  • Vampirejediknight's Set-Up This may change once I give it more thought, but here's my first basic idea.

    The Militia:
I agree completely with SGTGerman on this.

"The Militia plays a vital part in my society. It is already capable of taking on zeds, but with my training it will be able to take on raiders far better with effective infantry tactics. A uniform will also be introduced, even if it is an arm band with "Miltia" on it. Foot drill, a national anthem and other typical army features will be included.

It will also be compulsory. This is not ideal in my society . . . but due to limited numbers there will be conscription."

Council: Keep it as it is for now.

Police: Seems fine as it is for now, but they need an insignia of some sort such as a badge. . .

Economy: I'd like to change a few things here. I wish to:

    1. Privatize Finance. A free market rather than a central bank will enourage aggressive policies and hard work, hopefully expanding our finance and allowing more freedom for the people.

    2. Militarize Education. Add a mandatory ROTC-like class to the education system and make students graduating whatever the standard final education form is to go through basic militia training but not force them to actively serve.

    3. Eliminate Unemployment. Those not practicing any sort of trade will be conscripted into the military occupationally.

    4. Alter the Duties of the Police Force. I want to license commandeering; if I'm funding it, I want to able to take control in emergencies. Also, I want to instate the police force as Reserve Militia and supply them with shotguns.

    5. Control the Clothing Industry. I want this to be operated by the Council, for the most part. That way I can have them create uniforms, flags, etc. as needed, among other purposes which will be discussed later. . .

    I will post more later.

  • Post Apocalypse Scenario - Junedragon3 Firstly, I would have the council name the town and create a flag. This would give the people something to fight for/rally around (may help calm the unrest) and give them an identifying symbol (the flag). I would name the city, New New York or something similar.

Next, I would accept the Raven's Peaks' offer to clear out the raiders. After this I would accept the Bayside's offer (clearing the mall in exchange for food). Rather than sending my own militia to clear out the zombies, I would offer the Raven Peaks more ammunition to do the job.

To appease the Union/end the strike, I would increase wages by 1-2 tokens/day for all workers and impose rules on working conditions (limit work hours per week, attempt to make the work safer, etc.). To accommodate the increased wages I would take a 3 token per day pay cut and encourage the other Councillors to do the same.

I would also improve the training of the militia to be better suited to fight raiders and issue them uniforms 3 ten man squads, each led by a sergeant (appointed from the squad).

Then, I would send 10 militiamen and 10 manufacturers to the farm. The manufacturers build a wall while protected by the militiamen.

Another 10 militiamen would be sent to clear the road to Ravens Peaks, allowing for increased trade. The other 10 militiamen would be left to defend the city and act as reserves.

The police and their deputies would be ordered to focus on catching/getting rid of the cartel with limited assistance from the 10 militiamen that were ordered to remain in the city (keeping the city constantly guarded is more important).

20 workers would be ordered to focus on maintaining the wall and building new defenses. The rest of the workers would be left to the basic tasks (cleaning toilets, cleaning streets, etc.).

Finally, I would send representatives to Raven Peaks, Bayside Springs, and the New Dawn Federation...

  • The Post-Apocalyptic City Scenario - You're the Boss! Alright, I have spent the night composing a very elaborate scenario, not all of which is yet revealed.

After reading you will see 6 key issues you must address as leader of the camp.

If you have any questions at all please feel free to ask.

If you can't see it written in the above page then don't make something up. Ask and ye shall find.

Aside from that enjoy this disaster of a scenario! I honestly don't think I could correct it myself!

If you wish to do anything which is not listed as an option, go ahead! I will do my best to give you information regarding firearms available, vehicles etc, but only on request.

    Enjoy everyone,

We've had hundreds of thousands of posts here at the ZSDW. Likewise, we've had thousands upon thousands of threads. So, I'm curious: which ones are your favorite.

    Rules:
    1. It can't be yours.
    2. It can't be a bar thread.

    That being said, let's go!
My personal favorite post ever was Pedro's "I'd go through the wall" on someone's plan. I nearly died laughing.
My favorite thread is probably "Zombie Killing One-Liners." I got a lot of fun out of that one.

    What are y'alls?

  • After the zeds are gone, now what? Ok maybe 10 years after z-day and most of the zombies have either been killed or rotted away, and the new generation of zombies, created from the survivors maybe 5 years after z-day have also rotted away and you've managed to survive this incredible experience. So now that the zombies are gone, now what? You've managed to survive and with the world at the state it was in, with all the tall buildings and such taking up most of the world with little wilderness to rebuild, what do we do? At this point we would probably need to expand our base for all the survivors we've harbored. I think it's very important and relevant that we think about the post living-with-zombies-roaming-around-and-having-to-survive-with-weapons. What do we do. Please give me your ideas because all i've got is burning everything to the ground then starting over.

I think that these guys can be dealt with very easily by......Zombies! Simply trick the Z's into attacking the raiders (fresh meat, loud music Etc.etc) and come on now... Zombie are the biggest threat in a post Z world so the raiders would be overwhelmed by the horde easily.
