  • On an unrelated note - I'm making a game! Hello, all. I just wanted to tell you that I've finally decided to buck up and start making that iPhone app I haven't been talking about but have been planning for quite a while. This is completely unrelated and has nothing to do with zombies or survival. PM me or post here if you want to talk about it.

But first let me tell you a bit about it and how I'm making it.

The game will be called some variation of "pop"(POP, Pop!, POP!, Pop, etc.) unless someone or I can think of a better name and will be a voxel-based game with 8-bit-ish details (But I will make it aesthetically pleasing, I hope.). The game will eventually be multiplayer-based, but in the first few releases it will be singleplayer, since I won't have the resources (Servers etc.) for a while. More on the game itself in a later post.

As an indie developer, I will make a blog where I will post reguler (Weekly or bi-weekly) updates on what's been going on in the game. I will take into great consideration any and all suggestions, since it's just me and I will basically be doing whatever the f*ck I want. :)

So, if you guys are interested, I'll go into far greater detail about the game itself and my plans with it, but 'till then, I don't want to leave you with a wall-o-text.

  • New indie Zombie Game - Zombie Colony! (Help Wanted) I know the zed wiki isn't really a place to use as personal advertising space, but I recently got saddled with a heck of a project.

Zombie Colony is quite simply, the zombie game that lot of ZSDW members have wanted to build for several years now. A survival-based, multiplayer FPS with strategy elements. But we're pretty short on actual people to make models for HL2, maps and such, so if anybody could lend a hand or reference us a good animator / modeler or source of free stuff, it'd help immeasurably.

Of course, you can also comment about the good and bad aspects of the idea here, as I post updates on the concept.

I created a simple and free pen and paper RPG called Zombies Attack in pocket mod format. Also made a scavenger's guide for it too-also in pocket mod format and free! All you need are 2 six sided dice and some imagination. Check it out at http://zombieattackrpg.blogspot.com/

  • Need help w/ weapons for ZRPG Hey guys, been a big fan of the site and this is my first post.

I'm making a ZRPG focusing more on the survival aspect more than horror. It will be very cinematic as well, but that's more or less based on the GM (aka me). I'm starting on my firearms list for weapons in my game. This got me thinking... how many guns should I have? I don't want to do the typical 4-6 guns in video games, but I also don't want to record every rifle, pistol, shotgun, heavy machine gun known to man.

So I just need to know, what are the 10 or 20 most common/popular:
    revolvers
    semi-auto pistols
    shotguns
    hunting rifles
    assault rifles
    sniper rifles
machine guns (this include smg and machine pistols)

Also, I found the ZSW Melee weapon site to be a great deal of help to find more practical, real life weapons but I gotta ask: would it even be practical to carry a "Traditional" weapon? Like an actual sword, spear, staff, battle axe, etc. If so, how likely would it be to come across it when traveling in a post Z-Day world?

I'm not expecting you guys to give me all of this, but whatever you'd be willing to share will help me a lot

  • Valuable or Not? What would the actual use of any rocket-propelled grenade be in a zombie-armeggedon? As clearly explained in the Zombie Survival Guide, grenades have little affect on zombies. it would also be a massive loss of money for any of these weapons, which could be spent more wisely on a rifle and ammo. The only reasonable use for these weapons is against human marauders or an insane soldier in a tank.

  • Beacon: ZSDW RPG I am posting a thread for this back on ZSDW for newer members to join in. We have less than 10 people playing, sadly.

Beacon is a community RPG run by Akerris, a 'great' of our site. And due to the late hour, I'm going to use the FAQ on the site as copypasta.
    ---
    Q. What is Beacon?

    A. Beacon is a text based role-playing game on a Wiki format, giving it community story elements as well. The story focuses around a small survivor community, trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world after a zombie virus was unleashed on one tragic day, referred to as 'Z-Day'.

    Q. What does Beacon have to offer, that I can't find somewhere else?

    A. Due to Beacon being on a Wiki format, it has community story elements. Essentially, not only can you play the game, but you can help create it. We focus on entertainment of course, but also realism. Don't expect a fast paced, unrealistic science fiction game. However, don't expect a slow paced, boring game either. We try to deliver a mix of both, to deliver a refreshing experience in our current era of unbalanced RPG's.
    ---
It was a really great gig going on when it was on this site rather than having it's own, where it got more coverage. Now our numbers are dwindling, and activity is growing less and less. We need *you*, *you* and ESPECIALLY *YOU* to get this game running again. Take a lick. You [hopefully] won't regret it.

(If a mod would be so kind as to feature this...)

  • Here's some ideas... Most melee weapons are going to spread a LOT of blood. So where things like paintball masks, cover up your wounds, etc. Also: PLAY as the infected if you get bit/scratched. If only for a few minutes. And a question: If your character dies, do you respawn, make a new character, or just die and be kicked out?

  • New Ammunition and Firearms Policy: To cut down on the Bacon in Beacon, the following is being implemented for better gameplay.

No stockpiling excessive numbers of guns without good reason, nor building fully functional firearms from scratch. Rare, but actual firearms are subject to individual approval.

Every player will dump at least 75% of their ammunition into the community stockpile. They will keep track of their personal stock, which will be depleted by use during missions. There are no requirements for the latter - use your own discretion. When a player needs extra ammo, they request it from the storehouse. This way, ammo conservation becomes a part of the game, and we have an accurate count of all our resources.

  • We need Fuel... I've found that few of those bringing vehicles are willing to part with any fuel. Our current fleet is mostly heavy vehicles, humvee, the M35, and the like. They're diesel gas guzzlers and we're not going to just find extra fuel. I know alternate electricity is being constructed, but we don't have the resources to convert all these vehicles to a delicate electrical system.

I'm thinking something along the lines of biofuel. If we can find a way to produce biodiesel, we'd be in the green. Until then, we've only got the gas in the tanks to work with, and that ain't much...

See if you guys can find such components. If you can find gasoline, propane, great. We need those for heating, cooking and sterilizing. Post whatever you find on this thread.

  • The ZSDW in Zombie Pandemic! We've had some discussions with the fine folks running Zombie Pandemic (http://www.zombiepandemic.com), and we's working on an affiliate site relationship. We cross-feature each other's sites to get more attention for both. Now, there is a fun part to this...

We've been given the clear to write up some missions for the ZSDW faction that will be introduced in-game. With some discussion, we decided to take this to the public for your guys' ideas. Thomas at ZP asked for ideas that would fit a short series of missions, nothing unbelievably overdone.

    I think that's pretty reasonable.

  • Eveyone's input Now, I've been talkin to my bro for some time and he game me an awsome I dea. Make a zombie game that sets u ina more "familiar" environment. Pretty much it's of an RPG style but, of a "fallout 3" sort. Now, u probably are thinkin " Azombie , thats not a shooter?! Is he on crack?!" No, I'm quite sober and yes; A new style of Horror survival. Now I want to make te character customizable and have the same fate changing decision aspects the Bethesda puts into their games. Now as u could have guessed for this to work, I'll need to set up a decent story and what I'm trying to strive for is work with Bethesda on thishere or . So what I'm asking is for advice and input on what should be put in and what should be excluded. So if anyone has any advivce please contact me either here or on my email Frostyknight9@aol.com

So please put in your ideas, of course those involved will be given credit, so please respond so this idea can bcome a true game.

  • Dead Frontier Do any of you guys play dead frontier?

For those who don't know, dead frontier is a massively multiplayer zed shooter. It uses a top-down perspective in combat.
Shooting is not the unique part of this game, but rather how you have to survive in the virtual city. You must loot bodies, vehicles, furniture to obtain vital supplies. Hunger is an active concern for your character, and you must keep them fed, or your health will decay and you will die.
Food and medicine of better quality must be obtained as your character gains higher levels.

Fairview itself is massive, with multi story buildings, crashed cars, police barricades, and is divided into 5 districts. Each district has its own "market" where players within can purchase various equipment from each other. There is an entire in-game economy built around this. However, the districts cannot inter-trade. The outpost you start in is on the far left of the screen, where the right side would be "Death Row" the most dangerous district but containing the most lucrative loot.

Barricading has been implemented, and with sufficient wood and nails, you can catch a breath from the ravenous undead. When a building is cleared out, you can establish a player outpost, with the ability to trade with other outposts in the district and store currency.

You can carry 3 weapons, a piece of armor on your person and others in a 14 item inventory (expanded every 10 levels) Every time you level up, you have points that can be used for player stats and weapon proficiency. Stats effect your character's running, ability to carry heavy equipment, accuracy and other things. These decay when your player is injured. Proficiency points go toward categories of weapons; you require a certain degree of proficiency to use specific weapons.

There is a massive variety of weapons, I believe 96 so far, from pen knives to grenade launchers.
