SHTF Patrol
I want to see what everyone is packing on a 'patrol' type mission. Envision that there is some kind of SHTF/World Chaos/Rosie O'Donnell streaking naked scenario.
Imagine you need to patrol your AO, 5 miles out and 5 miles back. I want to see if you go minimalist or full out BOB for your gear. And guns.

Warm sea currents dying READ THIS
http://rense.com/MexicoAlreadyDead.html
There are many more detailed articles, this is just one of few... I would really love this is wrong but, it seems that warm ocean currents are dying because of oil dispersion and that we can expect a new ice age in the next few years. Some articles predict 2/3 of population dead in the first year.

Rifle Nomination Thread 2012.
Hola everyone! The time has come again for the annual ZSDW Weapon Election! On this thread, you can nominate the rifle you think is the best choice for when the SHTF.
A few rules: 1. You must provide reasons as to why you think so. Simply saying "Because I said so" isn't good enough. 2. The rifle must be reasonable available to the public. No 7.82 Lazzeroni Warbird boltguns. Let's try to keep prices under 2K. 3. Any design that has a large number of variants will just be grouped as a "series." E.G. instead of "Smith and Wesson M&P15" and "Bushmaster Carbon-15" being listed as different choices, they both would be grouped under "AR-15."
IMPORTANT! If anyone has any questions, I ask that you please read the Election page this thread is attached to. PM me with any additional questions. Thanks, and happy nominating!
For my nomination, I pick the same gun I did last year: the Winchester 1894 .30-30. It's light, handy, accurate, relatively hard-hitting, low-recoiling, and fires a common round.
Voting will commence on August 16th.
Nominations so far: Winchester 1894 Ruger 10/22 AR-15 SKS Ruger Gunsite Scout SCAR AK Marlin 336 Remington 700 SMLE Schmidt-Rubin Marlin 1894 M1 Garand Kel-Tec Sub 2000 Mosin Nagant Dragunov Beretta CX-4

Choosing a leader.
So it is a while since SHTF and TEOTWAWKI is true. Your fictional group(list all possibilities and situations please :) ) now has to choose a leader, since democracy does not really work in crysis situations uless you communicate at the speed of light. But that leader has to be someone from this site :D.
Who would it be? In what situations would it perform best? Why?
Personally my top 2 would be either PedroAsani or Devilnuts. They both are smart and can make the right choices, loved by the crew, somewhat tolerant and work well under pressure.
It is 4 AM and i cannot think right now, so just give me your ideas(people).

Non-Zombie outbreaks (Just for fun discussions)
I know this site's main focus is zombies, but I think it goes without saying that for most of us zombies are just a fun way to discuss SHTF and other survival situations. Generally discussions about person+person fighting/combat are depressing and boring. So lets talk about other kinds of monster/epidemic apocalypse.
I thought it would be cool to discus how screwed we'd be if outbreaks of other kinds of monsters happened. What do you think would be an interesting (yet horrifying) type of monster apocalypse?
I think one of the most interesting versions of the outbreak scenario would be the xenomorph (pronounced Zenomorph). That would be the monster from the Alien/Aliens franchise. If you can't tell by my constant pulse rifle references, I really like those films. I think the xenomorph have the potential to be REALLY bad if the outbreak got out of control. For those who might not be familiar with how they work and what they are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_%28creature_in_Alien_franchise%29
Strengths: They're stronger enough to break through many metals. Their acidic blood means that killing them at close range is probably going to kill you too (so melee weapons are probably useless). They can run very quickly and move up almost any surface (think Spiderman only he's trying to murder you). They're capable of problem solving intelligence and have been known to complete task like cutting power. They have natural weapons in the form of their razor sharp claws, strong jaws, a secondary mouth that shoots out like a puncture weapon, a bladed tail that can slice and stab. They are very stealthy and can move very quietly, and tend to move almost unnoticed in the dark They're very tough and can take multiple rounds to drop. They demonstrate a hive mind, as in they are capable of coordinated movement and some levels of strategy. Weaknesses next post.

Weapons preferences
I'm new here, so forgive me if I add things in the wrong spot.
As far as weapons choices go, I have some variations depending on whether the SHTF is a social collapse or a zombie apocalypse.
For example, in a zombie apocalypse (ZA) I'm looking for volume of ammunition as opposed to heavier calibers. For social collapse (SC) I want my M1911-A1 .45ACP as a sidearm. It has better stopping power and is more reliable. But in a ZA situation, stopping power is not an issue. Either you penetrated the skull and scramble the brains or you don't. So for teh ZA I'd prefer a Glock or Sig 9mm, with some 15+ round magazines.
As for a rifle, I think the AR15 wins. One of the best things about it is that you can have 2 upper assemblies and, in effect, have two different specialized weapons with the weight and bulk of 1.5 weapons. Start with a 16"bbl on a rifle with a collapsible stock, add combat sights and quad rails and yuo have the basis for a top quality close combat weapon. Have a separate upper assembly with a 24"bbl and a good scope, and you can turn your CQB rifle into a 500 yard sniping weapon in a matter of minutes. Same ammo, same magazines, and same trigger pull. Plus you can always canabalize one for parts for the other.

weapon election results
No Judge ?? really! I have several on the top 10 hand gun list but I would take my Judge above all of them if/when SHTF. Four different ammunitions to choose from. Options are always a good thing.

Vote for your favorite 3 light machine guns!
(Sorry if I'm not allowed to make posts here, admins, if I'm not, please let me know)
So, basically, you know how it goes, just vote for your favorite 3 Light Machine Guns off of this list, if you could, some information on why you'd choose what you did would be nice, but I don't care really. *NOTE* I put some MG's that are basically derivatives of eachother because they have differences that make one better than the other in certain conditions! Anyway Light Machine Guns: - Maschinengewehr 42 (MG-42) - Browning M1919A6 - Type 11 Light Machine Gun - Lewis Automatic Machine Gun (Lewis gun) - L4A1 Bren - RPD - RPK-74 - Heckler and Koch MG-4 - M249 - FN Minimi - Steyr AUG H-BAR - FN MAG - M240 - M60E4 - Stoner 63 - Browning Automatic Rifle (B.A.R.) - (Suggested) Pulemyot Kalashnikova (PKM) - (Suggested) HK-21 (All variants) - (Suggested) Ameli
So let'sa see.
(EDIT 1) Removed calibres, since there are more than just those for a lot of these, and voting should be based on the MG itself (which includes all calibers) and I did not realize that myself at first -Allowing your own Light Machine Gun submissions, i'll be sure to add any people want to nominate to this list. It's not as organized as a nomination thread but It's a bit too late because I'll just start a mess in the forums, so it's all I can do. Also make sure it is an LMG and not a Heavy Machine Gun like the DShK or M2 or a Medium Machine Gun.

Shotgun
I'd have to say the spas 12 guage would be the best shotgun. I own one and it's fairly quick to load, is more accurate than most shotguns, and you can buy one with a detachable stock meaning it'll be more manuverable.

You're sleeping when...
You are sleeping when either 3 zombies, raiders or cannibals break into your bedroom right now!!! You have only mere seconds to grab something and kill them all. A suggestion to everyone who is serious about this, set your alarm for a time which will wake you up when you dont have hardly any sleep at all, grab something and start swingin'/shootin' GOOD LUCK!
