Custimizing military gear.
This question is for the Americans.
Can you modify your gear if your in the armed forces? In the CF aftermarket stuff can be added on if you could pull it off, grips, sights. If you need to remove the buffer tube, barrel nut, then your going to get one angry Weapons Tech and EME Officer! There's no issued slings, they never made it past prototype. You see some soldiers have 1 point slings attach to the vest.

Zombie Survival Gear. Where do you get yours from?
Just wondering where do you get your survival gear from? I myself have been using trueswords for years and they recently added a zombie apocalypse survival page, which is just links to other sections of the site. http://www.trueswords.com/zombie_apocalypse.php, I am 20 years old and have been a repeat customer of theres for quite a few years now. They have great quality items from what I have bought, the weapons not so much but the survival gear it has some great quality. I am also a fan of blades so I have bought a few blades from there which work well but zombie killing material? No, at least not the ones I bought. So tell me some of the places you get your survival gear from because would always love to see what there may be that trueswords does not have. I feel if it does not all fit in one small bag and in your hands then it is not important to have. One paratrooper bag should always be enough to carry all your survival needs.

Arming children
410 is a bad choice a kid would enjoy a reduced load 20 even more
Kids that are over ten would enjoy 13 inch lengths. Stuff like fiochi targets cost more, but well worth it. Moss bantam and equivalents make great starters Save heavy loads for hunting.

No-Pack Survival Kit Strategy - Not a bad idea
I would carry a set up like this IN ADDITION TO a regular Bug Out Bag or other packed survival kit, though, rather than instead of it, to serve as a backup to assist you in the event that your main kit should be lost or damaged. It would also serve to keep your most commonly used items ready to hand, so that you don't necessarily have to stop and dig them out of your pack while you're on the move.
To accomplish the same end, you could perhaps carry the same sort of contents in the pockets and pouches of a single over-garment, like a long trench coat with a lot of pockets or a Tactical Vest or whatever. Rather than having all of your kit spread out across several different garments and accessories (or one particular pair of pants, as in this case), an over-garment would let you grab all your kit at once, no matter what other clothing you happen to be wearing at the time.

No-Pack Survival Kit Strategy
This is an attempt to determine a reasonable distubution of gear weight across multiple storage options built with in and external clothing with out having to carry a fully loaded Bug out bag or traditional packed survival kit. 1. Rip-Stop Cam

Surplus in the UK
Just a quick list for those who are looking to buy surplus equipment, clothes and vehicles in UK. Just remember a lot of the time with surplus items you're paying for new or used but don't worry they won't sell you anything that doesn't work or looks more like a rag than an item of clothing. Unless you buy directly from the Ministry of Defence, in which case, why!?!
http://www.militarymart.co.uk/ Never had any problems with them. Even their used items are in really good shape and you get a lot more than you paid for. They stock surplus items from lots of NATO forces and it's always worth looking at their items on sale.
http://www.army-surplus.org.uk/ These guys tend to buy directly from the MoD warehouses but they only buy the good stuff. They do really great deals and you can even haggle if you order by phone. Haven't used them much but you should have a look if you want good equipment but low on cash.
http://ukmcpro.com/ This is mainly for people in Private Security but if you want top grade items and are willing to pay the hefty price for it, well I'd say it's worth it. Please note they don't sell any surplus items. They have a great selection of M.O.L.L.E equipment that includes vests and chest rigs.
http://www.mod-sales.com/ Official Ministry of Defence vehicle sales site. They have a big selection of things on here from basic soft top Land Rovers to light helicopters, they pretty much have it all. Conditions of the vehicles are mixed so you're pretty much paying for the shape it's in. If you are going to buy from them you're best going directly to the warehouses and haggling rather than getting ripped off on the phone. If you do buy anything you have to pick it up yourself! I'd like to add I bought my Land Rover from them just after I passed my driving test and it still runs pretty sweetly, even for a Land Rover lol.
