shopping a superstore
OK so i see alot of thought into some ideas which some label asbad and good, i hope i can break these up some more...
walmart costco meijer big one stop shops are exactly that, before the out break if possible have enough supplies atleast a months, then take a armed group out shopping, i guarantee these places would have been deserted by the major population that are infected and trying to fight the illness, however the ones trying to self medicate would probably still end up in a superstore, but anyway these places are of necessity, walmart has rifles, canned goods, a lawn center,,,plenty of room to run through the place, and u could hear someone walking around. Easy access as well, better than the small market idea for the fact that small business owners are more likely to shut their doors and barricade themselves with their inventory, no need to get killed by the uninfected. if ur on the move, and then ur probably using an interstate, BAD IDEA, then exits and walmarts are the remainder of ur life. SETTLE DOWN SHACK UP WITH SOME FOLKS OR YOU WILL GO CRAZY!! Pirates will also be harboring the interstate, so poor undefended families will fall prey, and lonres will be wasted...going alone means dying alone.

Which is best for bear during rural escape?
I've done some looking around on the internet but I can't find what would be the best weapon for an aggressive bear. Considering quite a few people from the cities plan to head off into the wilderness, myself included, what would the best weapon for a bear be?
I'd say a .308 or .30-06 rifle(7.62x54r for the Russian surplus people like myself.) at least, but I know a guy who goes out with a 12 gauge pistol grip pump for his backpack shotgun.
Any opinions or advice?

Apartments in the city
Now, I see a lot of people who say that they will stay where they live in the beginning of an outbreak. Some of these people live in apartments in the city. I was thinking.... and I came up with this....
For all of you planning on "destroying your staircase" and "filling the tub with water", and you live in an apartment, what will happen if a fire starts? Most apartment buildings have good solid doors to keep out unwanteds but they aren't fireproof. I went up to Boston not too long ago and saw the apartment I lived in for a while on the 1100 block of Mass Ave. I saw how close together everthing was. Almost the entire block was connected....
What if a fire started somewhere in your block? Even if you lived in a complex with just a few apartments to a building. There will be no Firefighters fighting fires in the mass of chaos that would be an apocolypse. If a fire started around the corner, and it spread (which it would), and you destroyed the stairs, how would you get out?
I'm not trying to be critical here, I just want to know how you plan to survive if something like this happened. I just hear people saying that they would "bug-in" and "Wait fot the chaos to subside" before leaving. Has anybody ever thought that maybe their apartment complex would catch fire DURING the chaos? I mean, It's bound to happen. Somebody burning candles or even dropping a cigarette when a zombie gets in....
It just seems to me like entire city blocks will burn to the ground and I want to know how people who plan on staying in these places could survive if something like this happens

Bad Ideas vs Good Ones
So since I'v been comming to this site and have been doing some good field research I notice more and more bad ideas. Don't get me wrong, many of these ideas I myself would have certainly put into practice when an outbreak occurs. I'v also come up with some good ideas, well... I would call good ideas. Please keep in mind, I'm talking run of the mill mindless undead that want to eat you. Dawn of the Dead style as it were.
1. Bad Idea - Hitting up the local super store Over and over again I see this come up. "Me and my buddies would just go to Wal-Mart and supply up!" I myself would call this suiside. The idea of going were everyone else is going dosent sound smart to me. Why not hit a smaller market, possably drive out of town and find somthing out there away from the center pice of the local population?
2. Bad Idea - Food for Thought So alot of people are saying they'ed supply up on non perishables, I'm sorry but its going to be a fight at best to get any when the end of known civilization is in utter chaos. Not to mention, you need to out last the zombie infection, and staying away from zombies is key. Of course you need food rite?! Grab whats close at hand, hit a few houses on your way out of town, but most importantly grab seeds! Werever you end up hideing out, dig out the floor, and keep a hole in the celing for air, sunlight and rain water. Grow some indoor crop.
These are just some examples, and I know they are quite bleek at best, not to mention #2 is almost not even helpfull. I wana hear bad ideas, and good ways to fix them, think outside the box! We'll need good thinkers when all hel breaks loose!
