Weapon Set
Well basically my intended survival group has 12 people in it and I need you guys' opinion on my set of weapons. All together we have a very nice BowTech Compound Bow, two .22 rifles both with scopes, two pump action 12 gauge shotguns, one overunder 12 gauge shotgun, one single shot 12 gauge shotgun, one pump action 20 gauge shotgun, one semiautomatic 10 gauge shotgun, one 17HMR Tack Driver, one .22 revolver, one Glock Pistol, two Mosin Nagants, and one .50 Cal Muzzleloader. When judging this keep in mind I have around 300 rounds for each caliber these weapons require and all 12 people in the group are very familiar with each gun and are very accurate. Also all 12 people are between ages 14 and 18.

Hi guys
They are not in "favor" of stores they work with, they provide them sample sometimes, and most of the reviews there are made by members which bought them.
Anyway if you see it that way most COmputer hardware review website are a farse because hardware is offered by the brands and they just ssay good things about it because is good for both? You are wrong.
They won't provide false information online, because that will cause them both problems. --- Anyway i found a smaller but similar website online"Europe Swords Buyer Guide" europe-swords.c*m

A funny video showing the differences in katanas.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ImwJmnW2lo
This is an entertaining video showing what most of us have always known. There is a big difference between your "display" model katana and a high quaility blade.

Katanas
Katanas, we've all seen them. These ancient Japanese swords appear often in modern day culture such as movies, games, pictures, books and in the hands of people around the world. Of course, there's nothing I'd like better than to take this brutal limb lopper and run into a crowd of zeds, decapitating everything in my way, but first, you have to take a look at the practical side of things.
FIrstly, we analyze the types of katanas. Let's separate them into two groups; Crap and not crap. In the crap section we find the cheap katanas you find on fantasy sites and sites such as Trueswords and Budk. These swords usually range from 20 dollars to 50 dollars, are made of stainless steel and usually are modeled after video game character's weapons. Let's get one thing straight; These swords are total ****. First off, stainless steel is only good for knives. Anything over 12 inches is asking for trouble. I wouldn't trust one of these cheap swords to cut warm butter to spread on my early morning Apocalypse toast. Don't get me wrong, these sites can sell alright swords, for anywhere from 70 dollars to 150 dollars. These swords are often made of carbon steel or damascus steel. While these are a drastic upgrade, I'm not sure I'd rely on them for long term use. If you're in a pinch with 1-10 zeds and there's a carbon steel katana sitting next to you, it'll most likely help you tremendously, but don't expect it to be an indestructible object.

Sword buyers guide is ok but they do favor companies they work closely with. So all their reviews can't be trusted.

Katanas?
I was wondering about getting a katana, not a full length one, to replace the hockey stick that is currently my melee weapon. I'd obviously not buy one of the crappy $30 from a replica shop or something, but a properly crafted one. Is this a better option than something like a machete or hatchet?
Please leave your thoughts

how about not wearing it?
if you are strong enough you can use the saya as a secondary weapon. i have a smaller 40inch katana (its a real 18 times folded steel katana) that i can move pretty quick with one arm and the the saya can be used similar to a bat. i.e. knock em down with saya then get a clean shot with the sword? just my idea.

The Sword Buyers Guide

Katana=Bad
IMO, katanas are a HORRIBLE idea. Only one cutting surface, made for SLASHING, which is blood loss, not brain destruction or limb loss, most are of poor quality, and they're SO overrated. Sure, it shouldn't be hard to find one. Sure, it's better than nothing. BUT, you need to clean it, sharpen it, make sure the blade, handle, or sheath doesn't break, it can't penetrate the skull very well, or any other bones, it's really hard to find a good sharp one that was made for combat, and it has little to no uses as a tool. Can it pry doors/crates, break lock and chains, bash through wood and metal, break bones easily, and be tough like a crowbar? Can it chop down whole trees, destroy piping or rubble, or anything else, like a fire axe could? Even crobars can do most things that a fire axe can. To me, there is no better melee weapon than a crowbar, simply because it's cheap, you'll always find one, it has so many more uses other than combat, and as a bone breaker/skull destroyer, will ALWAYS outperform katanas. Just because they're good weapons in anime and games, doesn't mean they're good for a real zombie outbreak, or anything else in life, for that matter. Rejoice if you're carrying a katana and a boneless zombie or an unarmed, armorless raider tries to pick a fight with you, but otherwise, find something else ASAP.

First of all, this article won't tell you how to kill stuff with a sword. This article will tell you how you can wear a katana's scabbard with normal denim pants without it falling off, ending up in a position where it will be dificult to take the s

Un-Mentioned Weapons.
What about the Ak, SKS, AR class of weapons that are available. Don't forget the array of curio weapons (Mosin Nagant and Mauser for example) and shotguns that can be purchased at any Big 5 Sporting Goods. Then there are the inexpensive revolvers and semi auto pistols (too many to name). Melee weapons are an absolute last resort.

come on now......
you need to be thinking outside the box here, a knife or sward of any type is going to spill lots of blood, and when there is a lot of blood then there is a much better chance of that blood getting on you. that blood has the virus in it so if you get that in your mouth or eye or if it is seeped in through the skin youre screwed. a baseball bat to mee seems like the best choice for a melee weapon. one hard swing to the head and its game over.

Katanas?~
Do they make a good secondary weapon?
And if so should they be strapped on the back or at your belt?
