On The Line
First day at the range with this freshly put together system. It's just back from a duracoater, so the rifle cycles very slow. Zero'd my optic and helped break the rifle in.

Weapon Set
Well basically my intended survival group has 12 people in it and I need you guys' opinion on my set of weapons. All together we have a very nice BowTech Compound Bow, two .22 rifles both with scopes, two pump action 12 gauge shotguns, one overunder 12 gauge shotgun, one single shot 12 gauge shotgun, one pump action 20 gauge shotgun, one semiautomatic 10 gauge shotgun, one 17HMR Tack Driver, one .22 revolver, one Glock Pistol, two Mosin Nagants, and one .50 Cal Muzzleloader. When judging this keep in mind I have around 300 rounds for each caliber these weapons require and all 12 people in the group are very familiar with each gun and are very accurate. Also all 12 people are between ages 14 and 18.

Anybody ever had a Henry .22 lever action?
I am buying a lever .22 as soon as I sell the muzzleloader I have. Hopefully in the next few weeks. I have looked at the Henry, Browning, and Marlin. I have heard nothing but good things so far about all of them but the henry is considerably lower priced. Has anyone ever owned any of these and had any problems out of them?

Mosin Nagant 7.62x54
In my opinion, the Mosin Nagant and other Bolt action rifles have no use in the zombie defense field. If you have enough time to get an accurate shot with a large rifle, you can get away. But! The rifle itself is a nice weapon. They're very cheap and pretty reliable. Also quite accurate. It's also very easy to clean and disassemble. You can also easily turn it into a grenade launcher with a 2liter coke bottle and some blank cartridges. It's a good gun for hunting but not for protection. It would be good to have to get food though.

A realistic solution to a "Zombie Gun".
Realistically the best gun you could have would be light, reliable, accurate, cheap, decent range, and have abundant ammunition and be over all kick ass(sorry for language). What Rifle would fit all of these requirements? Why The "Henry Repeating Arms AR-7 Survival Rifle" of course.

Scout Rifles - "Swiss Army Knife" of Guns or Poor Compromise?
Savage 10FCM Scout, Ruger Gunsite Scout, Steyr Scout, and the many homebrew or custom-made scouts... thoughts?
Is Jeff Cooper's "Scout Rifle" concept and those weapons that follow it the go-to firearm for the zombie apocalypse, or is it little more than a poorly executed compromise of features that are in-fact limiting? Is the .308 caliber the most acceptable cartridge option (as Col. Cooper propounds) or is this of less importance than form? Should modern scout rifles strictly adhere to the original scout rifle concept, given late changes and advances in technology and metallurgy? Is a detachable magazine a requirement or are stripper clips adequate? If you were to build or purchase a scout rifle, would you follow the original Cooper specs or would you deviate from them?
I'll share my opinion later, after a consensus on the scout rifle has been formed and a few other opinions are out there. I'm curious what y'all think!

great for plinking, but not the inevitable zombie apocolpyse.
I'd go a 3.5 on this one because of a couple of things I've noticed on mine. I like the gun I like it a lot for plinking, I've got a 4x32 scope on mine and it is a great little target rifle if you take your time, and I've gotten a number of the 25 round mags salem is talking about, but they look really weird when you put them in Skinny at the top and fat at the bottom. I read too much GQ to look be ok with that, if the world is going to end I'm going to go out looking damn good and the combo just looks goofy. The other thing i"ve noticed is at faster rates of fire the thing tends to jam, it'll half eject the unfired case and try to put a new one in and the bolt'll clamp down on the middle of the unfired cartridge. The design of the rifle makes this hard to clear you've got to like turn it on its side hold the bolt and shake. Other than that It's a damn fine gun for the price, but if the dead were to rise and I had to go with a 22 cal semi auto, i'd either do the walther g 22. or the ruger 10/22. I feel both are more reliable, and neither looks goofy. I'll post a pic later

Weapons preferences
I'm new here, so forgive me if I add things in the wrong spot.
As far as weapons choices go, I have some variations depending on whether the SHTF is a social collapse or a zombie apocalypse.
For example, in a zombie apocalypse (ZA) I'm looking for volume of ammunition as opposed to heavier calibers. For social collapse (SC) I want my M1911-A1 .45ACP as a sidearm. It has better stopping power and is more reliable. But in a ZA situation, stopping power is not an issue. Either you penetrated the skull and scramble the brains or you don't. So for teh ZA I'd prefer a Glock or Sig 9mm, with some 15+ round magazines.
As for a rifle, I think the AR15 wins. One of the best things about it is that you can have 2 upper assemblies and, in effect, have two different specialized weapons with the weight and bulk of 1.5 weapons. Start with a 16"bbl on a rifle with a collapsible stock, add combat sights and quad rails and yuo have the basis for a top quality close combat weapon. Have a separate upper assembly with a 24"bbl and a good scope, and you can turn your CQB rifle into a 500 yard sniping weapon in a matter of minutes. Same ammo, same magazines, and same trigger pull. Plus you can always canabalize one for parts for the other.

EER, IER "Scout" scopes
It seems to me that a decent, variable power scout scope offers quick target acquisition when things are tight, along with decent accuracy out to 400m - if you can shoot that well, and depending on the weapon, of course. But they also seem to be a love it or loathe it item. Without getting into the whole "Cooper's Scout Rifle" dogma one way or the other, anyone here tried this sort of setup?
