Just want to send my compliments to the staff here at ZSDW about how well this site is run and maintained. I have to say this is one of the few wikis I still see active daily, and have plenty of active staff members.. A lot have died since Wetpaint added their Entertainment Platform.
I figured this would be better than sending every single staff member a compliment. That would take too much time in my busy schedule. I also apologize if this thread breaks any rules. I have read the Code of Condut, but did not see anywhere on the page saying a thread like this couldn't be made. *shrugs* If there is, I missed it, and apologize humbly for that. Even being just 16, I have bad eye site. (lol.) -Clay, 4 year Wetpainter/WPC Moderator/ZSDW member P.S: Randomly decided to add all that to my little signature above. lol.)

Whats your favourite melee weapon to use. I've been training with a switchknife but my favourite is a crowbar. it's fairly lightweight, but if you swing it hard enough it can pack one powerful blow.

Kind of a basic question, I don't think I have to remind you about the fact that the roads may be blocked by other vehicles or something else and you'll need to get through them somehow. The best option would be a vehicle that does not waste much fuel and has space for luggage/supplies and maybe for other survivors. My personal choice would be a minivan or an SUV.
I'm interested in your vehicle of choice.

I live on a farm and during and after apocalypes they would be worth to keep them alive. but the cattles fencing is made of Dura-Built Economy R-Gate and they are all bolted to railroad ties that are sunk into the ground 3 feet. to make a stock yard. would they be safe in it or would there need to be more to stop the zombies or would the zombies just leave the cattle alone altogather?

Its several years post Apoc, you and your family are still alive but are barely hanging on. Things is beyond desperate , you have seen things...and done things you never thought you would. You have seen people kill others just to eat them !
Few days ago you found a cache of food that a group hid, you took what you could carry back to your family and was the first meat they had in days. You know it was stupid but you went back to get some more, now you're sneaking away with some more when all at once you hear a shout..."Stop put the gun down", about 30 yds away a guy is standing pointing a rifle at you If you surrender they are sure to find the stolen food in your pack, you know what people do to food thieves in this world, maybe they will torture you into telling where your family and the rest of it is too. You are armed with a double 12 shotgun loaded with buckshot, you are right next to a big tree, maybe you can throw yourself behind it and shoot this guy before he shoots you. You have practiced this and you know even if he has his finger on the trigger a person reflex can be slow enough that you have a chance. You wonder why he hasn't shot already, maybe the gun isn't even loaded ! Lots of people with guns and no ammo, matter of fact you got your shotgun..and everything else he had from a guy you got the drop on and put it down when you pointed an empty 30 30 at him. Maybe he just wants to talk to you and see if he can help you.....From what you have seen thats sure not very likely..... Maybe he hasn't shot you because he wants to march you back to camp and butcher you there for dinner, you have seen that before So do you disarm and hand over your shotgun and trust a stranger not to harm you or do you take your chances and try to kill him ?...What would you do?

It has oft been debated, on this site and others, what the "best" caliber is for a defensive handgun round. We hear terms like 'stopping power' and 'kinetic energy' and 'harmonic pulse frequency'...
LOL - Okay, maybe not that last one. Seriously though, I just came across an interesting article that pretty much lays it out. To put it simply, unless you hit the brain or upper spinal column, there is NOT ONE single caliber that can be relied on to instantly incapacitate an assailant. Shots to center mass may incapacitate, may even kill, but it has been shown that even in cases where the heart has been destroyed, there is still enough oxygen in the brain for an assailant to continue to act for 10-15 seconds. Fortunately for us, most people have a proclivity towards falling down when shot, no matter what you shoot them with or where you hit them, most people will instinctively fall down upon realizing that they've been shot, but what are the key words there? MOST PEOPLE. First of all, the target has to be aware that he's been shot, and second of all he has to be one of those people with that standard proclivity towards falling down. No matter whether you hit them with a .22 or a .45, some people will be so enraged, drugged out, or just numb from the shock of getting shot in the first place, that they will fail to notice that they've been wounded, even mortally wounded. Or for the same reasons, they may realize that they've been wounded, but just not give a sh!t, determined to take you down with them even if they die trying. Now statistically, it doesn't seem to matter whether you use a sissy round like a .22 rimfire, or a big old ass kicker like a .45 ACP, the reliable one shot drop is a myth perpetuated by hollywood that cannot be relied upon in real life. (Cont'd)

I know the zed wiki isn't really a place to use as personal advertising space, but I recently got saddled with a heck of a project.
Zombie Colony is quite simply, the zombie game that lot of ZSDW members have wanted to build for several years now. A survival-based, multiplayer FPS with strategy elements. But we're pretty short on actual people to make models for HL2, maps and such, so if anybody could lend a hand or reference us a good animator / modeler or source of free stuff, it'd help immeasurably. Of course, you can also comment about the good and bad aspects of the idea here, as I post updates on the concept.

Basically,my advice as an MMA fan and student of Martial Arts,I can say the following for rookies.Avoid advanced technique.Do things that are natural, fluid and simple yet cause maximum damage for minimal effort.
If absolutely no purpose built or improvised weapons can be accessed, then prepare to use your anatomy in ways not thought of by conventional thinkers in order to ensure your survival. Against more than 2 walking dead, make a hasty escape.Otherwise try and get the zombie into a headlock and twist its neck with a violent force, akin to spinning a rusty valve AND KEEP YOUR FOREARMS AND HANDS away from the mouth of the zombie.Another move could be to grab the arm of the zombie lunging at you whilst moving to the side and sweep kicking them then standing(assuming you are wearing rugged footwear) and stamping their face until it resembles scrambled eggs and ketchup. For Humans, who are more aware and intelligent,as well as more capable, take a class in Krav Maga.

So the outbreak occurred and you survived. The following months were tough but still you managed to survive. Your stronghold consists of a home with a natural water source and thus allowed you to have a great amount of crops. Although you have been quite successful, you have always had a problem with another group of survivors in the area. One day while out hunting with your trusty canine you hear gunshots. You rush back home to your base to find it in flames. Everyone is dead. The neighboring gang attacked your group while you were gone and everyone(both sides) is dead except you. All you have with you is your hunting pack.
One rifle(choice)=3 full reloads One pistol(choice)= 2 full reloads Utility blade/melee fire starter light tarp(shelter) water purification canteen What will you do now? The firefight has made a lot of noise so the area is not safe and your shelter is destroyed. Your crops are destroyed and all that survived from your livestock is one single cow. The next few hours will be very crucial. So tell me how will you cope with being a new found nomad.

Thread started: Sunday, 1:27 PM EST

No, I'm not trolling - engineers in New Mexico have created a bullet which can guide itself (making up to 30 course corrections per second) towards a target (designated by a laser) over a mile away (and which comes within at least 8 inches of the laser target at half a mile). The engineers that created it stated the the bullets are not too complicated or too expensive.
They are currently only making .50 caliber self-guided rounds (for military machine guns). However, they stated that future customers could include recreational shooters. Maybe they will produce self-guided bullets in other calibers in the future? It's kind of pointless at the moment (unless you happen to have a .50 caliber machine gun) but is something to watch for in the future and is pretty cool. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/sandia-labs-engineers-create-guided-bullet-15488960#.Ty69g_K8spY http://www.sandia.gov/LabNews/111216.html

| Carnack | Testing vs Scenarios | Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki | 11 | Today, 12:13 AM EST by Carnack | ||||

Thread started: Yesterday, 1:34 PM EST

On this site we on occasion are treated to a scenario by or imaginative users in order to make us work on problem-solving using a real-world scenario.
Discussions from these always tend to reveal more about the posters than their ability to solve problems. You'll get groups in one extreme or the other and others promoting moderate or insane strategies to combat the scenario provided. A successful scenario promotes thought. The choice should never be clear. That promotes discussion. When there is no clear right or wrong answer users minds are free to work a little bit. A test however is the dead opposite. There is a defined right and wrong answers and incentives to pick one over the other. The problem is that it does not allow wriggle room. It puts you in a position where you answer the practical (as defined by the test) method or the stupid method (also defined by the test). Example: Pick one: Cut off your foot or run away. One choice is clearly stupid. The other is obviously the proper answer. The test scenario here is often used to challenge the actions of users in a different scenario. However the problem is that the scenario allows for multiple people to percieve the situation in different ways. A test does not. This can involve the additions of emotional variables like charges to care for or something as simple as the addition of a percieved stupid answer. It tends to be clear within a few posts what the OP is looking for.

Just like the title. Who is in your top 10 list from movies, games, comics etc? Don't just pick by popularity; there's a lot of stuff to consider. During their zombie killing career how many zombies did they kill? Where they resourceful? Are they well equipped? How BA were they while they were doing it.
Here's my list. 10. Issac Clarke from Dead Space. Technically he's killing space zombies but this futuristic engineer uses everything from a high tech plasma cutter to some gizmos that can throw parts of the monsters back at them. He doesn't have much attitude but he kills a crap ton of monsters. Over all he's well equipped and quite the killing machine. 9. Hunk from Resident Evil. This dude's nick name is Mister Death because he seems to be unkillable. He's silent like Issac but utterly committed in getting accomplishing his mission at any cost. He carries a variety of sub machine-guns and handguns and kills hordes of zombies. He's pretty well equipped. 8. Alice from the Resident Evil films. I can't stand this character at all, but she's pretty good at killing zombies. She's a walking weapon who also carries an impressive arsenal. She's well equipped; to the extent that she's the only one in the films that ever accomplishes anything. 7. Purna/Xian Mei from Dead Island. Both of these women are pretty deadly. One's a former officer who's a pretty good shot with a gun and the other is an expert with swords. Neither are particularly well equipped but they're pretty good at improvising weapons. 6. Bill from Left 4 Dead. This fellow is a cranky Nam vet who chain smokes and hates stairs. Oddly reminding me of my IRL father in how he acts and talks helps as well. He carries his own M16 in the games and kills hordes of zombies. He's fairly well equipped and for his age he's a pretty awesome zombie killer. Last 4 next post.
