Military bases
Jan 25 2008, 7:43 PM EST does anybody know of a place to get maps that include all military bases, reservations, and training locations, and if you do, what is the easiest way to keep track of them 1 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jan 26 2008, 8:23 PM EST Most U.S. geologic survey maps show military instillations.Just go to their website. DoD might provide the same date on specific locations, but I doubt they will look kindly to civilians asking. Good Luck 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Military bases
Jan 27 2008, 12:03 AM EST A lot of bases allow the public to hunt on their land. You could probably get maps or at least a list of installations from your state DNR without anybody even thinking twice about you asking. The drawback to that is it probably won't include the bases/installations that don't allow hunting, but you'd be surprised where they let people with guns wander around. At the Blue Grass Army Depot you can get within sight of the bunkers where they store chemical weapons without a problem. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Richardson for X-coultry sking. But my Dad was retired Army, so if we were ever stopped we had valid permission to be on govt. land. If someone is going to chech out bases, be sure they are "Open" bases, some important historical bases are open to the public, stratigic bases less so. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

The comment about the Blue Grass Army Depot was just to say that they allow people access to the land of some places where you think they wouldn't. So a list from the DNR has the potential to be fairly comprehensive. Hell, it’d probably be easier to just use google but the DNR is one way I know of to find out about military bases in your area so I thought id share it. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Google Earth
Apr 15 2008, 1:45 AM EDT It's free and it shows you just about anything you can search for. Don't want to download the program, you can use a cut down version of it on the google site here (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl). It will show you satellites, map and terrain views of locations around the world. This program also offers a search bar to find whatever you need. Do you find this valuable? |

May 23 2008, 8:24 PM EDT Running onto any military base, retired or not, on Z-Day will be suicidal. Any person who wants to live should walk in with white flags or some sort of signal. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

May 24 2008, 4:30 AM EDT Keep inmind that national guard armories may have humvees and plenty of huns. But the guns are locke dVERY securly in a vault and the humvees have locked steering wheels. Ammo is NOT generally stored at an armory. Do you find this valuable? |

Jun 14 2008, 3:13 AM EDT "A lot of bases allow the public to hunt on their land."When hunting on bases, be sure to obey every single rule to the letter; Failure to do so is both a federal crime and it might get you shot. As to the original question- ¿Did it occur to you to ask the militry? World-wide, there’s less than a half-dozen militry facilities that aren’t listed, and let’s face it everyone knows where ‘those’ places are… Do you find this valuable? |

Jun 15 2008, 7:01 AM EDT You are going to be pretty lucky to find locations of Active Military Bases. Countries keep them secret in fear of a Terrorist attack or another Country attacking them. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Military bases
Jun 16 2008, 3:01 PM EDT Something that has not been brought up is possibly using abandoned military bases for fallback positions. Recently, the news here talked about the old Seneca Army depot, out in western NY. Apparently, the army is planning to reactiviate the base for "Homeland Security" purposes. Anywho, there are scores of abandoned facilities that still have some infrastructure, that can be modified for survival purposes. Examples could be abandoned missle silos, radar stations, and smaller support bases. All of this is just a thought, any other ideas? Do you find this valuable? |

Sep 4 2008, 12:00 AM EDT One interesting thing about raiding armories and turning them into bases is, if highly trained soldiers who KNEW how to use all that stuff couldn't hold the base, what makes you think you can??? Do you find this valuable? |

Sep 4 2008, 12:21 AM EDT "One interesting thing about raiding armories and turning them into bases is, if highly trained soldiers who KNEW how to use all that stuff couldn't hold the base, what makes you think you can???"Because they don't have any clue about zeds and they don't know to blow the head clean off or at least give the head massive trauma to render the brain a pile of scrambled mush... It's a very simple concept: Untrained soldiers go on conventional battle tactics, they get wholesale-slaughtered, leave all their goodies behind, Then, paramilitary goons or regular citizens that know the operations/care of the goodies seize the base and put the goodies and their knowledge to good use.. ....Even in that corny ZSG they mentioned how soldiers knew nothing about the zeds and that joe schmoes were able to almost magically fight them off for the most part. Now, if you could make friends with some cops or Guardsmen, and get them in volved in the Zombie threat, you would have a better chance of getting more uniform-types on your /our side. Sep 4 2008, 7:50 PM EDT "Because they don't have any clue about zeds and they don't know to blow the head clean off or at least give the head massive trauma to render the brain a pile of scrambled mush...So your saying the ENTIRE FUCKING GARRISON is STUPID ENOUGH to take ALL OF THEIR MEN OUT INTO BATTLE. Conventional tactics call for leaving a force behind to hold down the fort (no pun intended). I am pretty sure enough soldiers will figure out that headshots only work. Besides, and everyone listen to this.....SOLDIERS KNOW ABOUT ZOMBIES AND CLASSIC WAYS TO DEAL WITH THEM. Surprising? Yes, soldiers watch movies just like the rest of you, and if you can remember to go for the head when the world goes to shit and you go into the warzone for the first time, chances are, soldiers who have been training to fight a war all their careers will probably remember that too. -end rant I'm not mad at green particularly, it's just the people who keep saying "The military base is a great fortress! All the soldiers will be dead and we can take all their stuff!!!" Chances are if the garrison got wiped out, it was for a reason. And soldiers DO know about zombies in pop culture.
