Zombie Psychology: How do they think?
Feb 2 2008, 3:43 AM EST
Assuming, as is argued by many, that the commonplace zombie is not, in fact, "dead", and still retains control over its brain, albeit a warped control, how would it function? How intelligent are they? Can they still use logic and reasoning? What drives their insatiable lust to kill? I am interested to know what the ZSW community has to say on this subject. Reply!

I will be discussing this topic upon the assumption that the Zombie Effect is caused by a germ. You are welcome to interject alternate opinions. This question puzzles me, as microbes (please correct me if I'm wrong) cannot disrupt the cerebral process unless they cause direct deterioration of brain tissue. If we are to assume that the bacterium (that is what I believe it to be; it could well be a virus) wishes its host body no harm, this would not be the case; unless, of course, the germ somehow could selectively eat away the areas of the brain that allowed for normal thought, but retained the primal instincts (run, grab, and bite), giving the soon-to-be-zombie, in effect, a partial lobotomy. But that would be one smart bacteria. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I think they are dead. I think that it is a virus that takes control of the brain and overwrites the basic "programming" of body cells making them neutal (dead). This would explian why they decompose, albeit at a slow rate. The virus concentates on the nerve cells making movment possible. the virus overtakes the brain and makes them eat flesh, live. They prefer human becuase thats the way the virus works, aiming for the same species as the host becuase the host has "memory" of what they were so the virus aimes for that. If a person was infected and they were raised by wolves then they would aim for wolves because that is what they retain in thier brain. The virus basically hijaks the person. The person is still there but being controled by the virus. This does not mean that there is a cure. The virus anchores itselfs into the phisology of the host making itself part of the host. Becuase the host is decomposing, if the virus were to leave then the person would die for real because the virus that was keepinb thier brain and body stable was gone. Things such as pain, emotions dont affect the virus becuase it doesnt know what it is. The person feels them though and during thier "life" as a zombie they are in constant pain trough the slow decomosition of thier body and the abuse the virus inflicts. The virus can live without oxygen becuase the virus uses its own energy from the self opening of tiny wormholes within the dna of the virus. The enegy then....ok this is bulli think i put too much effort into this 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

the virus is controlling it, like re 4 zombies. you act normal, but extremely violent when pheremones are not excreted for a living thing. then, virus takes over and you have no control, but can clearly remember

"The virus/germ could just infert the temperal lobe(forehead) causing extreme anger management issues and doing a great deal to eliminate self control."This is the type of zombie we would most likely deal with. But there would never be running zombies or zombies with super human strength, unless there was a human like that in real life. The only thing the virus does is take over the brain. In doing this, it messes up the wiring, which is why the typical Hollywood zombie walks very uncoordinated. Zombies have all the physical capabilities we do, they are just extremely uncoordinated. They can't do anything any more extraordinary than that. The advantage they have over us, however, is the unlimited stamina. They don't feel the pain from over worked muscles. They will keep going until they eventually disintegrate the muscles. Humans have the advantage of adrenaline. Zombies don't get that. Too bad for them... Do you find this valuable? |

What do you think about the virus inhibiting and changing the neural pathways of the brain to cause memory loss, confusion, anger. this could also cause the brain to shut down every part of the body that isn't fully needed making the body appear to be dead. Just a thought.
