May 6 2008, 3:50 PM EDT "`The Walmart Plan` beats the `Get out of Town` plan. No way."Thats true! Most people are not realizing that there wont be much left at Wallmart or any of the big box stores. They are going to be picked clean by others, and 60% of the people or more have the same idea. If you think your going to stop people from looting out the stores, your mistaken. Most of them will have guns too. Its better to get what you can and go some were quiet and away from the crowd. Do you find this valuable? |

May 7 2008, 12:49 PM EDT Plus, don't forget, most wal-marts have many big glass doorways. When a store is open 24-7, there's no need for uber security. All it takes is 1 rage zombie or a horde of slow moving zombies slowly pressing against the glass to get inside. Even one surviver with a gun could screw everything up. Do you find this valuable? |

May 7 2008, 8:33 PM EDT even if you manage to plug up all the weak points at a walmart or any other big store like that, you have to consider that you just basicly imprisoned yourself. when you look at the locations of walmarts and other stores of the like they are all in big cities or very close to them. at the very least they are in the center of towns where the most business is conducted. i live just south of memphis, tn in MS. there is no way that i will stick around and wait to be enveloped in a mall or store with over a million strong throng of zombies walking around and if you are found out they will be all over the oustide of your place in no time cutting you off. living next to the mississippi river my best bet would be to commandeer a boat and go north as far as i can as fast as i can with as many people as i can call and supplies i can gather. then set up shop in the middle of nowhere. or close to a small town that i can move in to or take over if there are no survivors there. May 8 2008, 8:49 AM EDT Thats why I'm thinking about the farm supply store. It has no windows and the only week spot would be the 2 sliding doors. The one here is over 3miles from town and not many houses around. I live in a small town, my second plan is to fill my van, and head out and go to 1 of 5 locations that I have scouted out that would be easy to fortify. Each of the 5 locations is at least 2 miles from the nearest house. I'm trying to keep my plans simple no oil rigs, islands, nuke silos, or any thing insane like that. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Aww come on
May 8 2008, 9:14 AM EDT big dave has a good plan laid out for himself. i would prefer more distance than a few miles though, but like he said he lives in a small town. one of my plans involve getting myself and survivors up north in a remote area like a ski resort town. take over the main ski resort lodge assign survivors to a room of their own and then organize them into groups. laborers, and soldiers laborers fortify soldiers pull security and find supplies outside of town. then expand the compound during the winter when the zombies are slowed down. then i just don't have to get greedy like dennis hopper in land of the dead. but i get dibbs on the best room high up in the resort because i'm the big cheese, the king dingaling if you wil. May 8 2008, 2:32 PM EDT I don't mean for a permanent location. But long enough to let things settle down, and see what the Zombies are going to act like. After a time if the Zeds don't die off, then I would head up to the U.P. of Michigan. There are cabins 20 miles away from any one else. I know the area from working and going to college up there. That is if the Macinaw bridge isn't blocked. other wise I will have to figure out some thing else Do you find this valuable? |

May 8 2008, 5:21 PM EDT sorry i my plans are made under the assumption that it's going to be a full blown outbreak occurring in major cities all over the world and stenches are in the millions in just a week in all majorly populated areas. Do you find this valuable? |

May 8 2008, 7:22 PM EDT I think BigBDave has a good idea. We dont know what they will act like. There is no way of telling how they will act at all. You can only defeat an enemy if you know your enemy. If you give it time for the chaos to settle it may be easier to move around. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Aww come on
May 9 2008, 2:57 PM EDT I think everyone is not realizing one major problem with the bug out as soon as your sure theory. If your sure everyone else will be too. For example, Look at New Orleans right before the hurricanes. The highways were un-usable for 20 miles in every direction. Which basically creates just one long trail of bread crumbs for the zombies stretching away from the city. Another problem is that even if you do manage to get out how long do you really think you will last without help? One of the biggest lost skills in modern human culture is stationary self-sufficiency. Not even modern nation states are truly self- sufficient. If we are to survive we need to stay where we will be rescued, and if I'm a leader of the last remnants of government I would look in the city. Oh and date your alive inside sign. RE: Aww come on
May 10 2008, 10:53 AM EDT self sufficiency can be obtained a lot easier than you might think. for instance you can prepare now by signing up for survival classes, or sit in on a boyscout meeting that is going over survival techniques. you can get a small pocket guide the army's survival escape and evasion field manual is a good one. that can get you by for a little while until you find a spot you can modify for your own purposes. libraries will still have books in them so if you what to learn how to do something go find out how. don't underestimate your own ingenuity, our brains are our strongest weapons. i look online or things and places where i can find stuff that will be useful and print off the addresses and maps on where to find them. for power depending on where i'm at i can find a small wind powered generator or convert a river powered mill into a turbine. if i want something bad enough i will find a way to get it and make it work. there's a little macguvyer in all of us. May 10 2008, 10:59 AM EDT One way to get ready for anything is when you go to the food store, just buy 2 of everything you need. A little at a time you build your stock up supply and it is the food you eat everyday not goof " survival " type food like dry squid and soy bars. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Aww come on
May 13 2008, 9:58 AM EDT Who Ho! I just bought me a new house. It's were I will stay and fortify now. It's 5 Miles from any other houses in the middle of farms. Tilled land all around for at least a mile in on every side. There's a small river 40 yards from the house for water and 2 wells. It has a 8' high fence made with 6x6', and 2x12, you couldn't nock it over with a tank ( well maybe a tank could ).It's made of brick, and has a full basement. The windows will be easy to board over. It has a propane generator, and I am going to install 2 - 2000 pound tanks to go with the 500 that the house has now (not just for survival but for cost ). It also has an above ground 1000 gallon gas tank with all the permits and 1/4 full. I talked to the farmer who I bought it from and he called his gas supplier and is coming out on friday to fill it up at whole sale cost. Now that I don't have any land lord, I can fix this house up how I want it to withstand any survival need and condition. It's time to stock up and be ready. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Aww come on
May 17 2008, 2:03 PM EDT Sounds like a great deal. And the best thing is now you can reinforce it. If its a single story I would install pluming, and generator, and reinforce the ceiling with 2 layers of 3/4 inch plywood. That gives me a second location. You know your welcome to hook up with us. Since were only 30 miles from each other. Do you find this valuable? |
