My " unit " is going with the Idea of going to a dock full of boats, cutting the shore ties, and slowly one float at a time building a fake Island. For Anyone not by the water a sister " Unit " is looking at taking over a train. Few people as most will head home to loved ones. Lots of room, dining cars, and tall so Zeds or Li-Th ( Live-Threats) have a very hard time gaining a hand hold. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

A well cleaned out garbage truck with the compact ability disabled. Made out of reinforced steel, made for stop and go travel, great gas milage, lots of storage space, can run down zombies easily, hard to tip over due to low center of gravity, can go on and off road, can easily go through road blocks...the list goes on. My second choice would probably be an amphibious vehicle. Zombies can't swim right? 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

My opinion for a good vehicle is divided between a few for different uses
For escape: An old Volkswagen beetle 67-69 (easier to find parts for) Modified into a baja bug (basically an uber dune buggy) I've gone mudding in one here in Oklahoma those things are built like no other they get ridiculous gas mileage ( cant remember exactly how much but its higher than any SUV on the road) almost any thing that goes wrong can be fixed with a screwdriver, wrench, pliers, or in one case a hammer these advantage coupled with the fact that they are built out of metal which means they can have armor plating welded on. and for anyone else who says that bugs cannot go fast just wait till i blow past you in a Baja on Z-day

My other choices depend on my situation but i maintain that the Beetle will get me the heck out of dodge

I think the best vehicle would have to be an Unimog (especially the U 3000/U 4000/U 5000 range) as the are;

1.Rugged
2.Able to go on All terain
3.VERY RELIABLE!!
4.Able to carry lots of stuff/people
5.Able to travel through water 80-120cm deep
6. Can be fitted with LOTS of different equiptment

This link will tell you more about it

i think any GM or FORD 4WD truck would do. newer ones get over 20MPG and they sit high enough. some even come equipped with skidd plates under them. if you could find one that has been slightly modified with a suspention lift, grill guard ect. that would be great. in the country and down south there are lots of guys who own trucks like this. they would be great. you would need to weld some kind of bars over the windows. other than that they would be great. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. A Subaru WRX STi. Fast, great handling, all wheel drive, off road worthy, dependable as hell, unshakeable grip, and four door with a huge trunk. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Try to keep with some kind of deisel engine. Not only are they tuffer but you can find the fuel easier. As you are traveling look for farms all large farm equipment use deisel, all of the surface mines use deisel, construction sites, city road departments, and airports as well as large generators. Gasoline will be the first to go. You will need gasoline for your smaller generators and smaller motors. Deisle will also store longer. gasoline will only store for about a month. I have been through two hurricanes, do not count on gas stations. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Gasoline stores for far longer than a month. And it's "tougher", which all depends on the manufacturer of the particular motor. Many diesels are extremely durable and they can withstand idling for far longer than gas engines which tend to overheat after a few hours of idling. However, as long as you aren't leaving the car running at idle 24/7 most gas engines will be nearly as reliable and easier to find in the U.S., especially in smaller vehicles. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. "Tuff" is actually 50's slang for "cool".

I would personally take the Honda CR-V in my driveway. Decent mileage, decent handling, and can carry more stuff than a sedan.

Then again, if I'm home, I really don't have a choice. All of the other cars are gone except that one.

Take the wife’s Pilot I am not screwing up my cars get them all mashed up full of Z slime. Someone here suggested I have the speed governor removed from my car, so I mentioned it to the service guy and got a two hour lecture from a guy named Gunther about unauthorized alterations to my car-thanks. Either way SUV is the way to go since it is realistic and doesn’t depend on some miracle to find. Most people have one sitting in their driveway even the “soccer mom SUV is somewhat durable” and in my area it must be good in snow. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I have two 77 Chevy Trucks. Both get about 12 mpg which obviously isnt good, however there is the standard 20 gal tank in it and two tied in external 15 gallon tanks i have added, so total is 50 gal. They have a four inch lift on them and deep tredt mudding tires, good for alot of terrains. They are older and have very few electrical components inside so most of the mechanical items i can do myself without the need for electricity and special computers for diagnostics. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. If you're gonna 'lone wolf' it, go with a bike. As in motorcycle, or bicycle. Motorbikes are good for squeezing through choked highways, and you can take them into most buildings (think single story, not so much stairs, though it is possible) for a quick getaway)

A mustang would be my first choice, can't think of the year right now, but it gets decent mileage and can go pretty fast, is a small car, and most importantly, looks good.

That's not very specific. There's been 45 years of Mustangs, and millions of them made in total. And gas mileage depends on the year and motor. One of the dumpy Mustang II's would give decent mileage but they're slow as hell and hideous to look at. And none of the Mustang's (save for the newer models with disc brakes, ABS, traction control, and something of a suspension) are good in bad weather. Do you find this valuable?

Good point, In CA we don't get 'bad weather' that affects vehicles much. SoCal that is. '96 by the way. What problems do you have with a '96?

Well, it does hav e a fantastic motor, the 4.6 liter V8 was one of Ford's best engines. Other than that, inadequate suspension and brakes make for an altogether unimpressive car. And it's not very good in anything other than a very light drizzle. They can be modified into much better vehicles, though stock there are definitely better options out there. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

My wife owned a '99 Mustang and it once got stuck on wet grass. Myself and two of our friends had to stand on the back bumper and jump up and down to give it enoungh traction to make its way to pavement.

Being a long time fan of the Mustang and Ford in general it was a humiliating experience.

Not my first choice for a world beating super car.

It's like a pickup; big V8 up front and nothing over the ass. Still; the sight of a nicely kept 5.0 Stang is still undeniably beautiful. Do you find this valuable?

Unimogs have great advantages dont get me wrong...(ive owned one.), between portal axels, low gearing, and suspensions that can take a beating...but any owner can tell you thier slow, uncomfotable, and it costs waaay too much to convert them to diesel. I sold my 68 comm truck and bought a 72 volvo c303 (check um out on "real4x4.com"), better on and off road performance, carry just as much gear, better on fuel, more reliable, and are one piece vann bodies with the same interior space of a ford e350 1 ton van allowing u to out fitt them exactly like a sport mobile.

if you wana risk your life on a ford...you better be one hell of a gifted mecanic. Haveing said that, a full size 1 ton ford excursion properly geard out would be great provided u installed a caterpiller desiel, ATS actuated 6 speed tranni, and a pair of MILL-SPEC Rockwell 2.5 ton top loader axels.
