I've always wondered about the prison option...
Mar 26 2008, 12:53 PM EDT
One thing I struggled with was how much of a prison would have to be watched, so you'd need a decent size group to man it. Seems like you would also run the risk of systems failing as generators fail, which might reduce defenses if they aren't brick and mortar (electric fences, for instance).

Actually these structures were also designed to keep people out as well as in. But the population that lived there before the zombification happened. I wouldn't want to deal with a couple hundred zombies trapped in different rooms. Not only would you have to kill them all, you would have to dispose of the bodies, and then sterilize your new living quarters. So while the structure may be good, the mess would have too many chances of contamination for my liking.

B: Even if they were infected, it's as simple as cracking the cell door open, throwing a molotov in, and closing it quickly. C: To sanitize the room you only need to throw the body over the walls and scrub the room down. So, a prison in my opinion would be one of the best possible options for shelter ,regardless of the maintenance issues. Besides for the chance that you'll find a couple of mall ninjas or uninfected criminals hiding out. Do you find this valuable? |

"A: They flee from being bitten.1. How did they get out of the cells in the first place...... 2. Yeah most prisons are made of stone..... As far as I know, stone doesn't burn... 3. Not as hard as cleaning up after someone who's constantly spewing barf. Do you find this valuable? |

"1. How did they get out of the cells in the first place......1. Think, In an outbreak the cells will surely be unlocked due to an "Emergency status" 2. That might be, but also think about the items in the cell along with the flammable liquid that was inside your cocktail, anything that was inside there WILL burn. 3. Tis is true. But after awhile the barf get's water-y and no longer a problem. rotting tissue however poses a serious health problem even if you cant get infected from it. Do you find this valuable? |

Prisons ARE the forts of our generation. In the three part series I'm writing, our heroes find them selves seeking refuge in a prison durring the second novel. Prisons are not only built like a fortress, but also come fully stocked with food, a kitchen, medical supplies and hospital wing, weapons and riot gear, and enough books to learn everything you need to know.Prison for the win! "1. Think, In an outbreak the cells will surely be unlocked due to an "Emergency status"1. What type of retarded prison unlocks cells in an emergency situation.... That adds to the problem, not help. 2. Fine. Don't use a molotov. Use a gun or a spear. 3. So don't let the tissue stay out long enough to rot? Do you find this valuable? |

I've actually done a bit of research into this field. That and I almost became a C.O. at one time. *shudder*Today's modern prisons would not be advisable imho. They rely to heavily on technology and electricity. Chain link fences and close circuit TV systems helped to reduce staff size and highten awarness. While the older prisons... *drool* Those were fortresses! Thick walls made or mortar and solid padlocks. The cells didn't work on electronic locks. The older prisons had to be some what self sufficiant as well. Some had their own wells and stables. Back in the day nobody wanted one built near their homes. So they were built out in the country... Man o' man. I could talk all night about this. Just trust me on this: go for a prison that was built before the 70's. Just my .02 ~Ironback Do you find this valuable? |
