a crackling of a nice fire

Growing up next to a fire department, I grew used to the 3am departures of ambulance and fire trucks with no sympathy for the sleepy children next door. But i grew accustomed to it and in my sleep I could still here a pedestrian coughing on the sidewalk outside. Maybe a deep moat of fire around your safe house, watch shifts, and ambien or lunesta to take the edge off after a long day of hacking and slashing hordes of the undead. 0  out of 8 found this valuable. moat of fire may be hard to maintain let alone to just get started without killing yourself.

well put, Dvergamali,
Also, taking sleeping pills might make it harder for you to wake up in case of an emergency.

Zombie_Orgullo,

Be wise during DayZed and Troubles afterward to keep a low profile, and things like heat sources to a guarded minimum.

We don't yet KNOW that Zombies of all/any types respond to open heat, or are attracted to "light". Making it easier for Unkle Zed to come to dinner at your stronghold isn't prudent.

Plan on keeping your suppplies, including fuels "tight" util you can safely move around and find those things you may need. If you happen to be camped to a broken gas main and think you can afford the fire, and it secures you..

Well, we'll watch and see how many Zed we can pick off your remains, then Andy can have your boots, if not too bloodied up..

Keep low, slow and quiet..

*EOM*

just light a few of them on fire. the fire would spread and at the time they would possibly break through your barricades, they would turn into ash. Do you find this valuable?

Do you know how long it takes a human body to become ash? Go ask your local crematorium.

Even just waiting for the fire to burn down to the nerves and ligaments so the thing will stop moving is measured in minutes. In the meantime, you have a mobile pillar of fire, at risk of igniting everything it touches.

That includes you and your base.

Actually I worked in a crematorium and the truth is that a regular wood fire would not reduce a human to ash. You need something much hotter. In a crematorium, the furnaces are fed by natural gas and a powerful blower.

Not to brag or bring the feds down on me but I can create something similar to that under the right conditions. Doesn't mean I would but I could.

Before anyone asks no I will not give you how to instructions pre-Z. Post Z ol' timber could hook you up with the baddest flame thrower ever. It just wouldn't be mobile. Has a lot to do with my occupation so my lips are sealed.

Theres more to this ol' snake than raisin' corn and rabbits.

Blacksmithing requires similar heat. A bellows and coal fire could easily burn a human. But as far as just lighting a zed on fire and watching them burn to ash? Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full. Do you find this valuable?

Two reasons: One, sometimes they plain won't fit in the furnace. Two, body fat is VERY flammable and so with that much blubber you run the risk damaging the equipment.

I don't specifically know the limit, I'm sure different places have different requirements. Fattest one I remember was a lady about 350.

More typically for weighing than burning.

To be honest mate I think I'd only use small and controlled fires for cooking and possible lighting large areas. Also there is a chance that the Zombies have a "long burn time" so they could turn into "flame zombies". And there this sustaining it problem.

But the best way to get rid of them in the end would be to burn them so...

Oh yeh, do not take any type of sleeping pill mate becasue if you have to leg it or have to "stand to" during an attack you will be stuffed. And don't wear anything like ear defenders to "keep the noise out" becasue commnication in these situations are crucial. Do you find this valuable?
