Survival Weapon
Apr 14 2008, 6:03 PM EDT If the was a zombie outbreak, what would be the weapon that you would stand by throughout the entirre Zed invasion. I dont want you guys saying that you would carry like 4 guns or something like a .50 cal rifle cuz where would you get that anyway? My chioce would be a 9mm or a 45 cal pistol and a hunting rifle. easy acess to both plus i would take one of the drywall knives in my garage along with a longer kitchen knife. last resort. 7 out of 10 found this valuable. RE: Survival Weapon
Apr 15 2008, 2:14 PM EDT Why is it that the M16 type weapons continually get a much worse rap then they deserve? Yes, it requires a bit more maintenance than an AK or a Ruger, but from the ground up, it was designed for accuracy. The M16's and M4's of today are far more reliable than the M16A1's of Vietnam. My AR-15 has jammed only when I put shitty ammo through it, and so has my AK. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Apr 15 2008, 2:54 PM EDT " If the was a zombie outbreak, what would be the weapon that you would stand by throughout the entirre Zed invasion.yeah, Ive got a .50bmg but I aint lugging that thing everywhere I go for sure, ill use it for base defense against hostile survivors. my sidearm will likely be a glock model 22 or a 1911, my primary will probably be my AR-50 in .50 beowulf, or my ps-90 if i can get some more mags for it. if you need a firearm when the zeds come you can stop by here, i think i got plenty to go around! 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Apr 15 2008, 6:48 PM EDT "Just use what you have. Simple."Great advice... My opinion is the Ruger 10/22 rifle would be a good gun if you only could have one and here are my reasons: 1) 5lbs with a wooden stock. Light enough to carry around with you comfortably, heavy enough to hit a zombie with. 2) A .22LR can penetrate the skull easily for up to 100 yards. Different bullets will penetrate at longer ranges. 3) If you pick up a high grain subsonic ammunition, it will not have the supersonic crack and be able to penetrate skulls past 100 yards. 4) .22LR bullets penetrate the brain then bounce around scrambling it. 5) Rifle has few moving parts, easy to repair 6) It will last and last 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Apr 16 2008, 12:36 AM EDT "Great advice...its easy to clean, no recoil, the ammo doesnt weigh hardly anything, easy to silence (hell a match weight high pressure barrel will cut the sound by 30% or so) just make sure that you keep it clean because if you dont you'll keep getting feed jams 1 out of 1 found this valuable. RE: Survival Weapon
Apr 16 2008, 1:17 AM EDT well this is kind of sad to say. I would only carry one pistol, my Kimber 1911 by choice, but if only one my Mk1 Ruger .22. Got a lot of rifles but if I'm in a small group not getting into combat is better than any weapon system in the world. In a normal situation if I need a 30 rd mag i will be overrun. 1, or 2 Zeds OK 3, or 4 in a small group I'll find another way around. I need the pack space. I'll need water before I'll need anthing else. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Apr 16 2008, 3:48 AM EDT The weapons i would have would probably be a 22. cal rifle(not the best choice bt can be reloaded fast) A turkey carving knife(more for intimidation against hostiles) and a bee-bee gun for hunting small game and then enough supplies for a few days 1 out of 1 found this valuable. RE: Survival Weapon
Apr 16 2008, 5:10 AM EDT What about the Ruger 22 Charger? It is a 10/22 but in pistol form. It has a 10" barrel, bipod, scope mount on top, and can use any 10/22 clip including the 30rd banana clips. My favorite thing about the Ruger 10/22 clips are the speed loaders. You can dump 50 rounds into it, crank a handle, and it will load the rounds almost as fast as you can crank. Use subsonic ammo with the pistol and you are ready to have a zombie killing party! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Survival Weapon
Apr 16 2008, 8:12 AM EDT My brother has a M2 .50 cal tripod mounted machine gun, but it's semi-auto to avoid the class III license. He also has 15 Ar-15s. Some assembled, most in parts but they can be thrown together quickly. We have all the armorer's tools to install gas tubes and check head spacing. Tons and tons of 5.56 ammo bought in sealed steel containers, Israeli and South African manufacture. All good stuff. Too many pistols to list. Aside from all that one of my favorite rifles is a good old cheap .22 magnum. The ammo is dirt cheap and when you mate it with a good but inexpensive scope you have yourself with a nice little rifle for splitting heads like melons from a safe distance. Much better ballistics than a .22LR and it's still cheap and easy to pack. What would be really helpful, but have been long retired, is a flame thrower. Twice a year at the Knob Creek Gun Range right down the road they have a huge machine gun shoot and military weapons show. You can rent or buy one of these. They're quite awesome. Pricey, I'm sure. You can rent machine guns there year round if you've never shot one and if you hang out there and get to know people you can always find a fellow enthusiast that'll let you run your own ammo through his select fire weapon. Helps to have a cute chick with you. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Apr 17 2008, 9:08 PM EDT Good old trust 12 ga. Mossberg. Ammo is not hard to find. Can hunt with it, great for defense, kills most anything. Anything outside the range is probably something I want to leave alone anyways. Plus that SOUND!! The sound of a shotgun loading is nature's ways of saying "PISS OFF!" 1 out of 2 found this valuable. May 7 2008, 6:28 PM EDT I'm going to stick with my Mossburg 500 , it holds 8rds., and I added a flash light. Ive also added 6rd. holder on the stock, and a tactical sling. I would also carry my Beretta 92F. I'll be able to find ammo. for both any were. I may also stick my 9mm. Derringer in my pocket. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Survival Weapon
May 9 2008, 10:14 AM EDT "anyone know where to find M1 Garand riffle ammo?"An M1 Garand is basically a .308 rifle, meaning that just about any 30-06 rifle cartridge would work. By that, I mean any rifle cartridge that is just under a certain powder load. I'm not sure on the specifics, but in any case getting a Garand and ammo isn't very hard to find. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
