Jul 21 2008, 10:44 AM EDT Block of flats, more often than not only one staircase, plenty of rooms, easy to defend, large flat roof, sturdy concrete construction. Basically a ready made fortress with jus a few simple modififcations, it's where I plan on going. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Beleive it or not, old warehaouses are a good chopise, with some site preperation. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jul 22 2008, 7:55 AM EDT Another good point about flats is that the 1st floor is high enough above the ground floor so that that skin jobs don't pose a threat, but low enough so it can easily be jumped from. And there are plenty of them around my area, so you have fall back points. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jul 22 2008, 3:34 PM EDT Only if they can't reach them, which the skin jobs I believe in will be able to by piling trash if they have to. Better to cover them with plywood, etc to ensure they can't see in and even if they do, they can't smash through THAT before you've dumped bioling oil, rocks, vats of acid, and everything else God gave unto the survivors. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Jul 22 2008, 3:46 PM EDT No need to worry about them breaking through windows, they are made of thick plastic, not glass. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jul 22 2008, 6:04 PM EDT They can still break through that (though you’re right, it’s not nearly as easy). Reinforcing it it of absolute importance to you. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jul 23 2008, 5:24 PM EDT Interesting; I had never thought of holding out in a lighthouse. I don't think anyone has one of those involved in any type of survival plan yet on this site so far. How would you plan to defend a lighthouse, MeganMoon? We have quite a few in Ireland so it is an interesting line of survival bases to follow through with. Do you find this valuable? |

Jul 23 2008, 5:54 PM EDT In the first movie " The Day of the Triffids " some people held up in a light house and used fire hoses to fight the Triffids. I believe the water for the hoses was pumped from the sea. As long as the pump works you could at least push a zombie away, maybe into the sea. Do you find this valuable? |

Jul 23 2008, 6:00 PM EDT If things got back in England I could always borrow a friends boat and extract a few members of the wiki to Ireland; provided it was safe from infection. Do you find this valuable? |

Jul 23 2008, 6:01 PM EDT "Zaitch: Would sheet metal welded on to the metal window frame suffice?Zaitch: Depends on the sheet metal; If you can’t bend it with you bare hands, probably. I, being paranoid, would strongback it anyways. MeganMoon: Interesting choice. I have to admit, I approve. Mars, in answer t your question, A lighthouse really is just another building, but with a built-in tower; Treat it like any other converted house/warehouse/office building/etc, and ya, that would be one Hell of a fortification. RE: England's Rz
Jul 24 2008, 1:38 PM EDT Not as much as, say, a warehouse, but then again they’re remote, meaning the skin jobs would have to literally stumble upon you, and equally you will see them coming, long before they get there- Meaning they’ll be dead again for fucking SURE this time.
