If you want to use car batteries for electricity I suggest you go to a local farm store and pick up a couple of solar electric fence units. You can use them to recharge your batteries. For fire im going to get a good supply of propane. I have camp stoves that I have a hose to hook to my 20# tank. Propane is easy to get while or after Z day. Most factories will have it on hand for fork lifts. There are also tanks at alot of gas stations, or go to the propane dealership. I do plan to use wood in the winter, There probably wont be many other choices were it gets cold. Filtering water wont be to hard I have been practicing with it. I have found that if you take 4 of the Britta or any water filter you can get at any store, 2 5 gallon pails, and you can filter water. You cut 4 holes in one of the buckets, Liquid nail (or your choice of adhesive ), attach and seal the filters to the bottom of the pail ( in the holes ), then hang it over the second pail you can filter 5 gallons in 30 min. It may not be as pure as a fancy hiking filter but you don't have to stand there and pump in. I tested it with some lake water from down the road and its been 2 weeks and i'm not dead yet. (OR AM I,---HA HA ) Do you find this valuable?

Like Your water idea. LOVE the fact that you've tried it already
My husband always says " Never take an untried knife camping."
Or at least have a favorite backup.
