The yanks have it pretty much sorted with what they'd use on the roads post Z day. But here in GREAT BRITAIN we ain't got that many Hummers or Dodge ram's. So we've got to make do with what we've got. The van i'd like to suggest; or, bring to the floor; is: The FORD TRANSIT van. The 350 long wheelbase version, has a 2.8 turbo diesel lump, is good and heavy, and has plenty of room for pretty much anything. The chassis can have a bull bar fitted with just 4 bolts, and apart from the cab, there aren't any windows (dependent on the model). they have a fantastic turning circle. The engine air intake is high so you can go through water about 4 foot deep, EASY! you can easyly secure your load in the back. Also, purely as a bonus, there bloody fast! Obviously this van isn't for all situations, but its pretty much a swiss army knife with wheels! Let the debait begin!!! 5  out of 5 found this valuable. Do you?

My last trip to Scotland I saw a Land Rover Defender. It was fully tricked out for long range survival, of course it cost about as much as my house, but on Z-day coast should not be a problem. Do you find this valuable?

I noticed in Scotland (I'v only been there so far) that when you get out of the highly populated areas it can get rangey (no roads/ lots of pasture) pretty fast. Maybe a cross country vehichle or horse and cart would work best. The horse could also plow fields later. Do you find this valuable?

Ah! Much respect to legion12, for he has a good eye!! I love the defender, its a cracking bit of kit! there are a couple of buts about it though. Mainly fuel consumption and inside space. other than that there isn't alot you cant do with one. They will go just about anywear! unlike the Hummer or to a lesser extent; the Toyota landcruiser, they are quite thin aswell.
