TO COUNTER THE RAGE ZOMBIE
May 12 2008, 9:49 AM EDT
These zombies are no joke.. they're quick, relentless and terrifying. In a real world scenario, even a trained operative like myself will have to deal with the "Oh Shit" factor.. which is the phenemon of...

#1 Threat assessment: When you first encounter one of these, your first instinct will be a what the fuck? Adrenaline will dump into your system, especially when seeing en-masse a screaming running at you in breakneck speed zombie horde..

#2 Target Engagemant: Ok your in the zone, you got your combat high, your M-4 is locked cocked ready to rock, zeroed in, good to go! You pop off a classic "security tap" (3 rounds, center mass) and drop one, dead to rights, but his buddies IGNORE this and keep a suicide run at you! talk about an ass-pucker event! Your "combat high" is probably at the moment begiining to abate, and your nerves are shot..making acuraccy degrade.

Get the picture? All i can reccomend if this ever happens, (God forbid) is follow the sage advice of the ancient warriors who did the Castle thing and WAIT.IT.OUT. Time is on our side.. stock up on MRE's, Water and let them die out! I hope this helps whoever reads it..

Rage zombies are a very realistic threat, that present many new challenges.

One new challenge is that Infected are like the Doped up Iraqis the US army faced in Fallujah, or in Mogadishu. An enemy that is unaware or uncaring of pain and fear. Even though a head shot is not recquired, it will be hard to drop. There are many many accounts of somalis taking multiple mortal hits and continuing to fight. These are the same.

Another challenge is spead and strength. These will be on you in a moment. Keep in mind the 21ft rule used by law enforcement. This means that a man within 21 feet of you, can from a standstill be on you in less time than it takes for you to draw a gun. Strength on these guys is probably comparable to that seen in those stories you hear about mothers lifting cars to save their children. It will be their muscle mass plus any strength they can get from pure adrenaline.

Infected are also a lot harder to discern from humans, than rotters are. A shambling have rotten walking corpse is easy to identify. A person climbing, running, jumping etc, not as easy (and not so easy of a target either)

One advantage to infected? Head shots are out the window (unless you are talking about running rotters, then your just royally screwed). This allows crew served guns, explosives and other weapons that would normally only slow down a rotter, to kill Infected en masse. So don't ditch your m2 or m249's just yet.

There is also the hope of perhaps curing the infected later on. Personally, someone else can try that, i'll be happy to just survive in my hideout.

I think waiting it out is deff. the way to go, surrounded by claymores (if possible). I'm glad head shots aren't required, that would really be a pain. Although in the last few minutes of 28 Days later, the one Infected seemed to be baffled by it's own appearence in the mirror, idk if this would be a good way to confuse them long enough to get ur sights aligned. 4  out of 4 found this valuable. I think in terms of zombies, the Rage zombie is the most logical to see in the real world. The best thing about them, despite the remarkable strength, speed, and lack of feeling, is that they can be killed in any way a human can. One approach not yet discussed is the use of tazers, stun guns, cattle prods, electric fencing, or other form of electrocution. It works well on humans (causes muscles to spasm) so it should work good on rage zombies. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

Oh, the other thing is that they (hopefully) cannot use weapons other than maybe crude clubs and rocks, so we don't have to worry about mortar attacks on our castles. 4  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

I think that the Infected Rage Zombie is the biggest threat against human kind. One way to put it simple, we would stand no chance if an infection broke out in the mainland. Within 28 days, these guys took down one of the most powerful military powers in the world. England was a complete wasteland. From what I know about 28 Months Later, the movie will take place in Siberia, which mean that these guys took out Europe, Possibly the northern part of Africa, and most likely parts of the middle east. There infection process is exstremly fast, infecting you (In most cases) in under 5 seconds. They are hard to differ from fleeing survivors and much more powerful then the rotters. In otherwords, they are the super zombie, and the most real possiblilty if Z-day were to come. We wouldn't have time to react to an outbreak and most of us would probably be dead before we knew it.
Say the infection starts in Mexico, we would have a day top before they come running into the country. Evacuations would be poor and most of us, if not all would be on our own. Best thing you could do would have to be going North, Far North. Pick up whatever you can, Weapons, Food, Family, ect. Then Haul Ass out of there and let the Military do their work and pray for the best.

I'm glad to see the responses, thankfully now we're all ware the massive threat that this category of "undead" brings to us, this frankly is a worse case scenario.. I would gladly take on the slow, shambling masses with no problem, hell even these after the initial shock. But just keep in mind that not all of us are military like myself, so if you feel like you're over your head, run... re-group, re-engage, behing a stout barrier of some kind, of course! 4  out of 4 found this valuable. The rage zombies in my opinion are the worst case scenario when it comes to the whole Zack topic, seeing as they sprint instead of shuffle they could get to where you are before you even understand whats happening and if you live in a town thats back into the highlands like my one, if the speedy G's show im up im as good as dead.Thats why i havent got a strategy incase they show up. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Your going to have to make a completely different plan for these zombies. I am more interested in Rage Zombies than Classical Zombies. Your biggest problem and thier biggest strength will be fear. You will have to desensitize yourself. Your other worst problem will be that if you assemble a barricade it will probably only slow them down as they can climb, jump, run, crawl, so you will have to think, "Can I cross this?" Other than that they will be fairly easy to deal with. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

this is why I am always cautious of poeple running around at full speed for no reason with an anrgy face.Im also cautious of slow walking or moaning people that look "dead" or really, really tired. You never know when something might happen. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I'm of the opinion that getting them really high would effectively demobilize or maybe even pacify rage Zs (why were hippies so peaceful, if not for drugs?). I'm also of the opinion that, due to their extremely violent behavior, few of those infected would live to exhibit the symptoms (see the "Are Rage Zombies Possible?" page). This means that, while each individual Z is more powerful, there will be far fewer of them. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Not worst case scenario, but definitely a bad and most realistic one.

Realistically speaking, however, the symptoms couldn't possibly show up that quick, it would be feasible that it would take minutes, hours, even days. This is worse in some ways though, as an infected can travel without trouble and transmit the virus unintentionally (taking just a sip from someone else's drink, for example).

Pretty scary when you think about it.
