¿Really now? ¿And what shall you do if a couple of skin jobs sneak up on you while you're on fire wood collection detail, your ubra-perfect, night-vision/starlight scope/thermographic/laser sighted 5 million-round capacity maged Uzi is 20 feet away, on the OTHER SIDE of the skin jobs, and your chain saw's right there, in your hands? ¿Are you gonna turn that chainsaw on yourself, or are you gonna at least take two more skin jobs with you? 1  out of 10 found this valuable. Well, clearly if you have it and are in a fight, you should use it instead of nothing. But the point is, it is not a good choice of weapon (assuming you have the luxury of choice) Do you find this valuable?

Awesome! That way I don't have to stop to stoop down and eat the zombie, I can keep on going while I eat! Efficiency! 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

The chainsaw should only be used for an emergency, because if your is like mine it jams all the time. Also, if our worried about chunks infecting you, wear goggles and a mouthguard. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Sure the Dawn of the Dead remake is just a movie, but it had a point.
1. Chainsaws kick zombie ass, even if they need regular cleaning.
2. Chainsaws can be fit through a small space and cause major zombie damage without exposing yourself.
3. Chainsaws can be dangerous, particularly in a fast movie vehicle with plenty of people around.

I think if I had a slit in my defense barrier (in my case a garage door) you could put it through and cut them up.
But yeah it's also dangerous to other survivors, but that said, the bits flying into your mouth called easily be stopped, just wear a facial mask protecting your mouth and eyes.

By the way, there ARE actually certain types of chainsaws that are used for cutting flesh, such as ones used in abbatoirs and maybe butchers, I don't remember.
I'm a vegetarian hippie and think it's cruel for usage on live animals, but using it for zombies I'm all for.

"3. Chainsaws can be dangerous, particularly in a fast movie vehicle with plenty of people around."
As Monica and Glen discovered, to their dismay.
For about one-onehundreth a second.

Actually, that’s not true. Glen must have started the chainsaw up, then revved it while holding it up. Even a novice knows you lay it on the ground, then keep your finger OFF the throttle-trigger until ready to start cutting. This was a totally avoidable accident. (Fucken, children know not to put their fingers on the fucken triggers…)

That's very illogical. You could use the same argument to say that an uzi is better than a chainsaw: what if your chainsaw is on the other side of the zombies, and you've got the uzi in your hands? And even in your scenario, I'd probably somehow try to get to the uzi (throw the chainsaw?) because it's just that much better. I'd almost always perfer a ranged weapon to melee, especially with a chainsaw. But I think that there was another page about this.

You totally missed the point of his post, you know...

The zombies are between you and your weapon of choice.

You have a bad weapon in your hands. Bad weapon is better then no weapon.

Do you want your weapon of choice? Do not drop bad weapon.

Use bad weapon to get to good weapon.

Switch weapon.

Kick more zombie butt.

We don’t know that.
Chainsaws have highly limited reach, really none, but are excellent when it is what is to hand.
Oh, right, and they are highly useful in dispatching crippled skin jobs (Twitchers, broken jaws, pulverized knee caps, etc).

You know, come Z-Day, I might get a hold of a chainsaw, and test it out. This is assuming I end up with some sort of carbon-fibre exo-skeleton, massive muscles, and dashing good looks. xD

I'm wearing thongs, so you can't take my boots.

"I'm wearing thongs, so you can't take my boots."
So when a skin job bites your foot becasue you didn't wear boots, I'm taking your chainsaw.
And unlike SOME PEOPLE, I don't mind a littel carboin fiber in the morning.

*Sigh*

Chainsaws...so much controversy...

Listen up, people: CHAINSAWS KICK ZOMBIE ASS. YES, it might be noisy, YES, it might be heavy and bulky, YES, it might jam when you least expect it. YES, it might throw zombie guts everywhere and HELL YES it needs gas, but it still kicks ass. (rhymes!)

I so would take a chainsaw on Z-Day in my truck along with my P90, crowbar and Steyr.
After all, what's the point of kicking ass if you can't look good doing it, aint that right, Andy?
Seriously.

...My boots are duct tapped and welded to my pants...or something...

If you don't know how to use a chainsaw, you just might kill yourself, then kill the zombie in question...

Meh, I don't need a chainsaw. Give me a spork and I shall rule the earth! :P

Seriously, though, in close quarters, the chainsaw has more risk then reward. a lot more risk... mainly because you cannot turn around, and it being close quarters, you probably have to cut whatever is blocking the 'blade'.

I really didnt want to post on this thread, but in the scenario featured earlier, I think its pretty obvious I am going to use that chainsaw. Chainsaws are a very risky if powerful melee weapon, risky for jamming, blood splatter, etc, etc. Powerful, if it can cut trees, I'm pretty sure it can cut bones. I personally would rather take a ranged weapon any day over it, but thats my opinion. 3  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

So would I- That’s why I’m gonna use it to get TO my ubra-perfect, night-vision/starlight scope/thermographic/laser sighted 5 million-round capacity maged Uzi (or whatever it is).
The trick, people, is to remember to PUT THE CHAINSAW DOWN when you get the guin.;)
