World War Z Orgin...

Did anyone else get the distinct impression that the world-wide outbreak in World War Z started in China? I'm currently forcing my flatmate to read it to see if he gets the same impression.

If, indeed, it did arise from China, why would it have been there? Is it just sheer numbers that give the virus so many chances to jump hosts and mutate in the process? As a backup for this theory, there are more mutated births (deformed/extra body parts) that happen in the most populous countries (China, India, etc) than anywhere else. Would the same rule apply to a virus?

Anyone get a diffenert impression of the origin? Any other theories as to why the contagion would have cropped up and grown so enormously in that place (area where you think it started)?

Quite the gap there. I'm thinking that if something were to arise along the zombie-line of virus possibilities, I'd put money on China or India being the source. That or maybe countries that are on the very low end of the Third-World classification where the standards (if there are any) of sanitation and health in general are significantly less. My impression was also that it started in China. A large (huge!) population, and an oppressive government that would probably not let 'the people' know what was really happening, could make for a fast rate of infection spreading. If, unlike in WWZ, the Chinese Gov. did let the people know what was happening, it may turn out more favorable to humanity.
Any outbreak in a highly populated, less devoloped area would probably lead to quick spreading of the infection.
(Last I checked U.S.A. had around 300 million people, just reached it a year or two ago.)

The reason why he put it in China is that massive pop. and lack of civilian guns. Guys america is one of only a few countries where there are more guns than people and the majority are in the hands of civilians. Do you find this valuable?

In the book Max Brooks does put the origin in China, he also goes on to give us, at the beginning, a sample of an outbreak in China, and how prepared the country was for these outbreaks. Well, the minimal, able to contain, ones that is. I don't really think that Max Brooks originated it there because of the size of their population. I believe that China has one of the richest cultural background to date, one of the most spiritual, and if you remember the elders from the village in the start of the book hinted that they knew what was going on, what was really happening. Besides, I think that the panic would have been worse in America if had shown up there first. Because, the Great Panic started to really blossom once the 'infection' hit America.

I'd say Africa or some of the very remote places in South America. But an army the size of China is a ery scary thought. Do you find this valuable?

If you read the Zombie Survival Guide, it says that China got a few Z's as test subjects. Maybe this is why he put it in China. Do you find this valuable?

Also, it could be implied that the Z virus might have been a biological weapon developed by the Chinese. Maybe that's a bit of a stretch, but if any country had the resources and disregard for human rights to do so, I'd put my money on China. Do you find this valuable?
