Escape problem

I actually live just east of Albany, in the berkshires. I have been to the city on too many occassions, and have considered the escape potential. If I were in the city
and had to escape north, I would try to cross the Whitestone bridge, by vehicle if possible, on foot if nessicary. Now, if you have the ability, try to get a beater vehicle, something that will get you to the country. Equip it with needed supplies, and pre- position it somewhere in Westerchester Cty.Get to the vehicle and drive north. The rest is up to you.

I don't do deep water. According to a college friend of mine, she considered herself an amatuer psychyc, In a past life I died by drowning.

I live in the mountains, we don't really have a need for boats. Strangly enough, we do have a dive shop(?) in town,I have no idea why though.

Some people have things they'll do, or not do (in reference to the fear of deep water thing)- but I think this is a good plan. Especially if you have to leave in a hurry. If it was me, I'd swim and avoid a likely pile up on the bridge.

I dunno how big the body of water you are crossing is, but there is always the possibility that by the time you swim across there's a nasty surprise waiting for you... also, the current might take you quite far away from where you'd planned to be... Do you find this valuable?

Well there ya go if you plan on crossing the water and wont swim it see if they sell boats and you might get across and also like dooran said the current might take you too far if you try to swim.

well swimmings drawbacks are that you won't be able to carry much across and if you try then you may sink. Also there is a good chance that all the other new yorkers will go the same way I.E. There will be a jam. I would suggest not running and find a safehouse. Do you find this valuable?

This is a very good idea. Some big box stores sell small boats (like Magic Mart - but I don't know how wide spread that store is). Literally stuff that would fit in a pic up, or something one person could carry without too much difficulty. That... or you can go to the sea side and "borrow" a small boat if you don't have the cash to buy one.

Dooran - good post about the current. I live in the mountains too and don't have to deal with powerful currents in the lakes here - so I didn't take that into account.

River Currents, I wonder if a strong enough current will prevent Zacks from crossing the bottom, the river acting as a natural barrier.I know the Hudson and Connecticut rivers have strong currents,So would it seem logical to situiate yourself near a good size river? Just a thought.
