COG Lancer rifle

Why not modify a rifle with a rotating thing like a chainsaw, except with razor wire on it. Nice slice action and would be lighter. Anyone want to try to work on this? 0  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

razor wire would get cought on stuff. Also, it'd be really hard to do on your own, you'd end up cutting your hand off. But the lancer would be awesome. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

do you mean attaching a powered bayonet?

If so, let me describe some difficulties.
Traditional Chainsaw Type:
-Fossil Fuel engines weigh alot.
-You want your rifle to be light so you can aim it well, and also carry it far.
-Fuel weighs alot, and is hard to acquire
Electrical Type:
-It takes roughly 600-800 pounds of Li Ion batteries to hold the energy in 1 Gallon of gasoline.
-Even given the fact that an electrical motor is 3-4 times as efficient as an gasoline/diesel system, that means just to cut the same amount of time you need around 200 pounds of batteries. On a vehicle, this is acceptable. For 'infanty', impossible. Not many people can run around at all, nevermind for the duration of Z-apocalpyse, with 200 pounds.

* Finally, about your razor wire idea *
There is a reason chainsaws use heavily built chains. Horsepowers of energy is applying enormous tension every second, even before you cut anything. While the chain is working through something, the tension increases even more. A wire would snap, damage the machinery, and possibly whip back on the user. During Z-apocalyse, a razor wire carrying some z-infectious material (small amounts of flesh and gore is usual) is deadly to the human (not for much longer) holding this contraption.

While having a motorized blade on the end of your assault rifle may be cool, and scare/awe/inspire people, its not terribly feasible or useful with current degree of motor-engine technology/battery miniaturization/fuel efficiencies.

lols, sorry to burn it down man.

it would be cool, and intimidate bandits and inspire your crew, but it would really be impractical (at today's technology level)
