... Even if you did, it will do no good.Unless you know what you are doing, you would do more harm then good. Right now, dentistry is at low priority. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"... Even if you did, it will do no good. There are kits for replacing lost fillings, even Walmart sells them. If you have a filling come out, you can use the kit to glue it back in place or if the filling is lost entirely there are components to make a new, temporary filling. Could also be used to patch a cracked tooth or repair a broken one. Not something I would want to do to myself, but it could keep you eating solid food. Check here for a good book(pdf) http://www.healthwrights.org/books/WTINDentistonline.htm Whole Earth Catalog recommends it. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"¡LOL!To avoid potential legal problems, I will point toward where you can download medical and dental care books or buy them http://www.hesperian.org/index.php I will post stories and over the counter recommendations, but nothing that could be considered actual medical advice, at least not til all the lawyers are dead. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Still, I think dentistry is at a low priority.I mean, it is nice to have, but so far it's nothing more then something to save money with. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Yeah dental health is important. I mean, it doesn't have to be an immediate priority, things like food, water and equipment will probably take precedent. In a long-term survival scenario, you would want to get your hands on some information/equipment in order to maintain you and your team's dental health.

"You can DIE of an oral infection. Not a pretty way to die."Yes, you can. It still takes a back seat to most other things. Anyways, you really should be brushing your teeth, though. I mean, brush your teeth and you WON"T get an infection in the first place. and if you do, odds are it will take a long time to form and you'll have plenty of time to settle down in a safe place. hardly an emergency. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. "Yes, you can. It still takes a back seat to most other things. You would still have broken and cracked teeth to deal with, plus lost fillings which could lead to broken and cracked teeth. Walk around a few days with a broken tooth and you will start looking for a pair of pliers to pull it out with yourself. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"pliers. :) exactly. Not if the kit lets you repair the broken tooth. Had a wisdom tooth pulled by a Navy Dentist, many years ago. Had bone and tooth fragments erupting through the gum for the next two years, hard to remove without the right tools. With a broken tooth the problem would be compounded. Do you need the gruesome details? Second-hand, but my jaw aches thinking about it. Do you find this valuable? |

Personally, I try to take care of my teeth the best I can. If you take care of your teeth, few problems should arise, and when they do, they can be solved in relative ease. Thing is, a dentistry kit is only useful for problems that begin after Z-day. Most of the problems you label as an emergency are ones that take months to form.AKA: the problem was there before Z-day, or began to form before z-day. If you were not going to solve it before z-day, what makes you think you are going to solve it right after? Dentistry remains a low priority still. you can attend to your teeth when you are behind 4 foot thick concrete walls of your fortress. That is the most likely and plausible scenario if you ever have problem with your teeth. Oh, and one last thing. Assuming you are not living in luxury after z-day, your diet will most likely be more healthy for your teeth, due to the fact that there isn't much that can harm your teeth anymore except rocks, bullets, and bricks. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Heard of a guy that was in the Alaskan outback, trying to homestead. Fell and broke one of his canines. Pulled out the pieces the best he could with pliers, short time and it healed over. Then it really got sore, swollen, the whole nine yards. Had to cut into the gum and fish out the remains of the tooth he had missed the first time. Problem took a long time to develop, one or two seconds. Talk to a dentist about how many emergencies they see they develop in just a few seconds. Absolute term you do not need a dental kit, comfort and morale yes you do. Do you find this valuable? |

Alright, if you want to talk about those kinds of situations, I'll gladly point out the flaw in your little dentistry plan. He had to dig down below the gum line to get the rest out, right? well, they have to do that sort of stuff at the dentist anyhow.Oh, and did you know, dentists use pliers too. As a matter of fact, many of the tools in the dentists office are things you can get anywhere. That being said... What is worse? Getting your guts pulled out by a zombie, or a dental issue. Now, when you are out and about, you CANNOT attend to your teeth. If a tooth is chipped, broken, you will be forced to deal with the pain until you get some place SAFE. What you are talking about is "DENTAL SURGERY." If anyone is caught in the middle of whatever it is they need to do, they are a sitting duck. When everything of HIGHER priority is taken care of, THEN you get to the teeth. Dentistry STILL takes a BACK seat to SURVIVAL. Now, go back over all of my previous posts slowly, and read EVERYTHING. Obviously you missed quite a bit of information I put out there, making your last post seem oddly... pointless? 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"When everything of HIGHER priority is taken care of, THEN you get to the teeth.OK, I will concede to you, it is your choice, you have an accident and break a tooth, wait till you are behind walls at your fortress to fix it, same for a broken arm, cut, smashed hand, or anything else that is not an immediately threat to life. You can wait til you have four foot of concrete between you and any possible threat to survival. Again your choice, not mine. Do you find this valuable? |

I’M SAYING IT’S A GOOD IDEA. ¿That simple enough? Now, byates, if you have time to argue about it, you have time to present a dental first aid kit. ¿What WOULD you include, that is special to dentristry? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
