MRE (meal ready to eat) or ER bars?

MRE - more of like a meal, and having different choice to choose from.

shelf life max 10 year+ depending room temperature.

ER Bars - like a granola bar but have more nutritional for the human body.

Shelf life 5 year depending on temperature.

I choose MRE. The military uses it, so it must be good :P

Seriously though, the MRE is a meal ready to eat. If the Military and survive off of them, so can I. :P

(not that I don't enjoy full meals)

I heard that American military has the worst tasting MREs in the world, with France having the best. If I wanted to get MREs, I would import 'em. Do you find this valuable?

it all depends MREs are alot larger then ER bars. iv lived off both for weeks at a time being a former combat controller. if size is not a factor then go with the MREs and for taste they are not bad kind of like chef boyardee. oh yeah and one hint pack some ex-lax with you. mix 1/2 pill with water once a week. that stuff will back you up. *MRE bang bomb* take one empty bottle water. cut open the heat pack in the MRE put in bottle water. mix water fast and screw on lid and trow. it will blow up like a dry ice bomb and scare every thing in one sq mile Do you find this valuable?

LAXD44 which of the two you could carry more? during a zombie outbreak , i actually want something light, easy to prepare, and come with alot of calories.

P.S - for me personally i would want something that taste like food if im defending a place, but if iam on the run i need to carry large amount that weight less.

what's your ideaS?

Energy bars for packing, sneaking&creeping, patrol, lightweight/size in ruck-gear bags. Fit damn near anywhere. Taste isn't too bad.
Mostly carbs from sugar and protein from soy.
"High" tends to run out of energy quickly if under stresses.

MRE in any caliber or brand makes for decent addition to existing stocks, or fresh kill foods. If the component parts of the MRE are taken out of storage bag, they can better be tucked into dead and/or small spaces in your ruck.

My crew used up three pallets in Zaire few years back, local food was considered contaminated by Company, we "got what they sent us" for food stocks. Headed out to jobs, we got damn good at liquidating the unessential parts; cover, bags, paper goods (Gave those to the residents that serviced out little enclave) and packed all the necessary tight.

MRE foods are not gourmet cookin' by any means, but they aren't bad, and in turn provide enough to continue working and walking with.

Would be my happy-dance to have dozens and dozens of cases of mil.spec Wormak brand meals handy When and After Unkle Zed visits.
