I'M No Hater - Here's the List

*CLOTHING/ARMOUR*-Shirt -Sweater -Heavy Pants -Leather bracers/half chaps -Canvas jacket -Kevlar gloves with pvc knuckles -Leather combat boots with extra half size -Good vest with attachments -3 day assault pack - Blackhawk makes a few good ones TOTAL WEIGHT: 15lbs *TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT* -Multi tool -Fixed blade knife -Jet lighter -Fire Starter -10h Chem sticks -3 flares -Quickties (first aid, attaching items, fixing tools, keeping doors locked) -Hockey tape (best adherence with sweat/water, and temp conditions + first aid applications) -Fishing line -Sewing kit (repairs and first aid) -Para cord -First Aid kit -Pump filter -Iodine tablets -Fishing kit -Nylon webbing -20m of good rope -Caribiners -LED flashlight with rechargables -Compact solar generator TOTAL WEIGHT: 22lbs *WEAPONS* -Kimber Royal II, 45ACP - blued to avoid usual rust issues -Springfield SOCOM 7.62/.308 (10 round clip) - similar to M14 with shorter barrel and lightened poly parts -8 pistol magazines (FULL) -4 rifle magazines (FULL) -20" prybar in titanium - won't catch in bone and has multiple applications -GUN CLEANING KIT - SO IMPORTANT!!! TOTAL WEIGHT: 35lbs This pretty well takes care of the essentials for on the go. If you need to bail this weight is do-able for one person. And if you have to leave your pack to get to safety for a bit, at least you won't have to worry about them stealing your kit. NEVER LEAVE A WEAPON BEHIND. ALWAYS ON YOU AT ALL TIMES, INCLUDING KNIVES. There will also be others in your crew with specific designations who may carry special items: Axe, shield, etc. As for accomodation, i'd suggest a hammock tent - they'll keep you out of harm's way, and their light. I have a million other suggestions, but the word limit says no. I'M LOVING EVERYONE'S IDEAS - THANK YOU Do you find this valuable? |

Why should you waste resources on personal hygiene? Its the apocalypse, and everyone else is going to be smelling just as bad as you. Food, I can understand.

70+ pounds is a little too much to be just in you backpack and hands. Here are a few things I would cut off:Canvas Jacket, leather bracers/chaps: If you have guns you should wear a little lighter clothing. Just keep out of buildings as much as you can. minus 1-5 pounds Fishing kit: Even with the rod broken down, it is still bulky and can weigh alot. minus 5-10 pounds. Compact solar Generator: I don't think they make them small enough to NOT be weighty and bulky. Plus, what do you have in your kit to charge? minus 10 pounds. 20'' Prybar: Learn to lockpick. It's not illegal to learn. A lockpick kit will be less weight, and doesn't cause as much noise. minus 5 pounds. Some things you should have: A box of energy bars: You don't really need canned food, just some quick snacks. You could probably find canned food easily, anyway. Crank radio: Even just listening to broadcasts can be very helpful. A good Nalgene water bottle or a canteen: You brought a filter and iodine tablets, but nothing to hold water in... A Straight Razor: To cut off that unkept beard Inu-dude was talking about. Electrics need to be charged, and normal razors need blades changed: http://www.cachebeauty.com/Razor/simco_straight_razor410.htm Toothbrush, paste, and some floss: Obvious. A can of spray deoderant: Just try to smell better. Please? Do you find this valuable? |

Ugh, ever heard of gingivitis? Try eating when all of your teeth have rotted and fallen out. And taking care of yourself is just a morale booster, and it makes a better impression if you come across survivors and you aren't sporting a massive, unkempt beard because you have nothing to shave with.

I always have a beard.Fishing kits do not need to include a rod. Lock picking can be difficult and time consuming. It also takes considerable time to learn to pick all the different kinds of locks out there. I'd dump the generator for sure. I'd dump some of the clothing as well. Replace it with a container of water and some food bars. Do you find this valuable? |

"I always have a beard.Yeah, but you keep it groomed don't you? Leave it go for two weeks, or two months, and you'll be more than ready to shave it off or at least give it a good trim. Do you find this valuable? |

"Is it always Walt Whitman wild?Actually it's getting close to that. But mine has more black still left in it. I have never been out to impress anyone. While I have speared catfish at the edge of a pond before it was not what I was suggesting. Ever hear of limb lines and jug lines? I actually use these quite often. No fishing pole needed. "Actually it's getting close to that. But mine has more black still left in it. I have never been out to impress anyone.Sure, but the pole isn't the only problem. Holding a tackle box, or a can of worms just doesn't seem practical to me. A box of energy bars is really all you need for food. If you want to fish for your own food, I'm not stopping you. IMO, It would be much easier to pop a squirrel with your pistol. Do you find this valuable? |

"Sure, but the pole isn't the only problem. Holding a tackle box, or a can of worms just doesn't seem practical to me. A box of energy bars is really all you need for food.My tackle box consists of an Altoids can. Within it are several hooks, some split shot, and fishing line. The outside of the tin also has some larger diameter line wrapped around it. The entire thing weighs less than a pound. I have no intentions of placing a container of worms in my pack. That's what my handy dandy fold up shovel is for, (amongst other things). Would not popping a squirrel with your pistol make considerable noise? Fishing for the most part is silent. Set your lines out in the evening and collect your fish in the morning. Do you find this valuable? |

A box of energy bars is really all you need for food.Tackle box and can of worms? I can carry all I need for tackle in a skoal can. Add in a mechanical fishermen and some fishing line (that would come in handy for all kinds of things) and you'd be taking up almost no space and adding a little weight. I'd pop that squirel with a shot-gun or a .22 rifle if I wanted to eat. Then use the squirels guts to bait my hook, set up a couple yo-yos (mechanical fishermen), wait till dark and gig a half dozen frogs and have froglegs for a late night snack, then wake up the next morning, check my lines and have me a nice catfish breakfast. That sounds better to me than a cardboard energy bar any day. Oh and if your wondering, I can do all that stuff I just listed and have been able to since before you were born. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I trust this man with my life. You are a survivalist's wet dream, sir."If you were being sarcastic you made me laugh. The things I listed are all things any kid with a single shot .22 and some fishing gear could do. I forgot to mention a frog gig spear head is something you could put in your pack. You could cut a shaft for it after you set up camp. I'd carry a factory made snare trap too. You can make a snare out of fishing line or twine but if your hungry do you want to count on something you set up from scratch or something proven to work effeciently? A snare would be quiet compared to a rifle and something you could set up and walk away. Or even set up before you go hunting so you've got a better chance at supper. I was too hard on the energy bar though. I'd be glad to have one on a slow day of hunting and fishing. Never hurts to have a backup. Do you find this valuable? |

No, and some of them aren't even bad to eat anymore, though I wouldn't want to survive on them long term.
