Raiding, Looting, and Salvaging.
Aug 6 2008, 11:42 PM EDT A lot of you are using the word “Raiding” in a completely inappropriate fashion; It’s not raiding to take everything that’s not nailed down. Raiding: Taking by force the property of another. May or may not invlvove killing someone. Looting: Taking of property form another who has been forced, by you or another force, to abandon said property, with the intention of returning. Salvaging: Taking of property abandoned by another who has either no intention or no ability to recover said property, usually because they are dead. One fundamental difference between these terms is the CAUSE of the property coming into your possession: If you didn’t cause them to be dead, it’s not raiding. Period. Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 6 2008, 11:45 PM EDT Yup, I'm a proponent of salvaging. With looting do you really intend to return it? Or is there a different term for those who intend to keep it? Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 7 2008, 2:03 AM EDT I suspect raiding to be a little more complication and dirty that most assume. Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 7 2008, 2:05 AM EDT yeah one thing to kill a skin job, or someone who is about to turn. Killing a healthy normal person is a little different not to mention playing the bad guy isn't what the movies make it seem, play Jade Empire for the xbox and get to the end where you have to choose between making something suffer forever or, Well I won't ruin it, but i played the entire game evil, but I just couldn't hit the damn button. Aug 7 2008, 2:47 AM EDT Here's how I'd define them. Raiding: Stealing with no regard for human life. If they are there, and they get in the way they are expendable. Looting: Stealing without consequences. By stealing you're not putting anyone else's life in danger, you're taking it for your own needs. Sure it's someone else's but they'll have to make do. Scavenging: Taking something that's been abandoned. Up for grabs. Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 7 2008, 9:42 AM EDT Um... stealing has consequences... it makes the person you are stealing from suffer. you are, in essence, taking away their livelihood. Stealing has consequences. it may not be you who feels it, but it does have consequences. So, if there is an obviously obvious sign that says: "looters will be shot", It probably means you are not supposed to be where you currently are... Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 7 2008, 12:54 PM EDT "Raiding: Stealing with no regard for human life. If they are there, and they get in the way they are expendable. There, Swing got it. Please, stop using ‘raiding’ if you’re NOT raiding; What got me on this kick is the Maritime Solutions thread; Someone (dunno who) said he’d use a boat to “raid” places along the shore, but also to rescue survivors; ¿How can you be raiding if you’re taking from the (un)dead and very gone? And if you’re engaged in Search And Rescue operations, whatever you take most CERTAINLY can not be considered ‘raiding’, maybe not even looting (looting’s on the line of ok here). I know this is just a personal; pet peeve of mine, but using proper terminology is necessary to prevent people like me from shooting first and not bothering with the questions. And I don’t LIKE asking questions. Do you find this valuable? |
