Inland waterways

Any suggestions on inland waterways usage? I am near the White river, which feeds into the Arkansas, which feeds into the Mississippi. When the White was in flood this year, it was almost in my backyard, so inland waterways are an option, I am not sure how good an option. Do you find this valuable?

Be aware of the strength of the current. If the current is very strong, you will have trouble going up stream in a large boat. It will take a lot of energy.

If the current is really fast, same problem, and you might be swept down river really fast, and will be unable to make land fast enough to stop on the coast where you want. you might over-shoot.

Be aware of the locations of stuff you want to avoid. Waterfalls, rapids, broken dams, shallow water, rogue rocks, vertical cliff sides on both sides of the river, obvious man-made obstructions, cave rivers that are easy to get lost and drown in, etc.

Know your rivers! know your boat! Know how to go the direction you want to!

Other then that, no. I got nothing.

Oh, and in-land waterways can be very good if you know what you are doing. they are a resource you WANT to be able to use to the fullest. Not to mention you can transport A LOT of stuff down river in bulk with rafts and barges... if you need to. Do you find this valuable?

More than anything else, a rvr provides a barrier; Skin jobs shouldn’t be able to swim across them (this is, of course, a completely inappropriate, if educated, assumption), sop if you can get across (or at least get across them faster than the skin jobs), you’ve potentially gained yourself an unlimited head start- From one side of the rvr. Do you find this valuable?
