.22 Rimfire
Aug 12 2008, 2:47 PM EDT
I would surely use a .22 Rimfire. Allow me to explain why:-Ammo is very common -If a headshot is scored, the bullet will go inside the skull but NOT OUT. It will ricochet around in the zombie's skull and rip apart the brain. HAHA 2 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

Although the bullets are extremely light and common, the bullets are not very strong. They will not knock down a lone zombie if you decide to shoot it in the chest, like a shotgun. It will not intimadate a human. I say a bigger rifle caliber would be better.

No, i mean if you are on the run and want to knock a few back, whip out the shotgun. The 22 will not even stop one easily or from afar. While a bolt action rifle can shoot from 500 yards away, you may have to be 100 yards away with a 22. And this is not about Rage zombies, this is about Solanum or Resident Evil zombies.

I just researched the .22 caliber. It's maximum range is 490 feet, much too close for comfort. However, ammo is plentiful, noise is minimal, and recoil is barely a factor. 2 to 2.5 BILLION rounds are produced a year. As far as hunting goes, it can kill rats and squirrels from 490 feet out. It is effective on rabbits from 450 feet. It can kill ground hogs, m,armots, and foxes from 240 feet out. It has also killed coyotes, but from 195 feet out. I say you would have to be less than 100 feet away to hit a ghoul, which is close enough to allow them to see or smell you. If ant type, buy or steal the hyper velocity, which travels over 1,400 feet per second. If you do find .22 caliber ammo, try to have a .22 rifle and a .22 pistol.

If the short range is a problem, I suggest that you get a semi-automatic rifle for it. They exist :D

A semi-automatic rifle like the M1 Garand or M1 Carbine is my first choice.

Ok, I dunno how many times I've said this, but it must be said again. A GUN WILL NOT KNOCK YOU BACK, THE KINETIC ENERGY FROM BULLETS IS FAR TO LITTLE TO SEND A PERSON FLYING OR EVEN MOVE THEM CONSIDERBLY! That is pure fiction made up in the movies, remember, clint eastwood may be awesome as dirty harry calahan, but he's not real either.

Actually, a gun can move a person, but it would have to move the shooter as far as it moves the target.

A .22 Rimfire rifle is hands down a good rifle for Z Day, but of course with all guns and calibers they have some flaws. The .22 LR lacks power and range, but is cheap, lots of it, and it's light weight for how many rounds you can carry. Now a 22 LR is to weak for me, but it's still a good choice, in fact one of the best I would think. However I lean more towards the .223 or 5.56x45mm NATO for you NATO people, but I also like the 30-06, 45-70 or the newer 45-50 or even 7.62x39mm.

Ok, first off Richboy, this is true if you want to play semantics, but a shotgun will not knock over the person it is firing 90 something percent of the time, therefore it will not knock over the person it is shooting. Also Skull-Hide, do yourself a favor, DON'Y USE 45-70 or 45-50!!!! They are not nearly common enough, have nasty rainbow trajectories, and most important they are unnesacarily heavy. Thirty ought packs a punch, but it's big, heavy and needlessly so, if you want more power, go with 7.62x51 which is more common and lighter, with the same punch. But your suggestion for 7.62x39 mm is an excellent one, it is light enough, has enough power, and is one of the most common ammo types in the world, especially outside of nato countries. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. I said that .22 caliber ammo is easy to find! You could easily find more than 1000 in a single gun shop. I suggest that I would rather have a semi-automatic rifle, like a M1 or an assault rifle like the M16 A2. They will fire from a distance with power, can be used at close range, and are both rather reliable in combat.

"Do you think a .22WMR would do it?"Just wondering: We have literally hundreds of .22 threads. Why did you revive on that is over two years old? Type ".22" or ".22 WMR" into the search bar. You should find what you're looking for. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
