your fortress is overrun, now what?

As with all things in life a little planning goes a long way. You should figure this as a possibility. Any stationary location can be overrrun. I see two answers stay or run. Simple. If you have the firepower and supplies to break the siege go for it. I wouldn't recommend wasting the resources. Once your perimeter is broken you have to have a preplanned escape route. Underground is preferable. Having a vehicle on standby is the simplest way. You had better be prepared to shoot your way out because youre compound will probably be surrounded. I would escape via an underground location to a vehicle. After that set off some kind of explosion to divert attention(and kill alot hopefully) before maing my getaway. Do you find this valuable?

Running is really awful idea as more than likely the area outside of your field of view is going to be dramatically different than you remember it. Depending on how long the world outside has belonged to zed bridges could be out, your fall back occupied etc. There for "dont leave the ship until the ship leaves you" Any fortress should have concentric circles of defense so that a breach of an exterior perimeter doesnt compromise the entire structure. Life sustaining equipment and supplies should be decentralized or redundant enough that even if forty to fifty percent of your fortress is lost you can carry on. Running shouldnt be plan B it should be plan I at the very least, then be ready for it go out the window with in the first few miles. Do you find this valuable?

I still say a ferry is the best fortress option, or at the least should be included..

Not only can you escape from the rest of the fortress in safety, you can escape from the ferry itself easily via chute-raft or lifeboat...

Stare at the Zeds beneath me, shrug, grab a 20 foot pole, and start poking them in the head... or use the same length spear. Do you find this valuable?

basicly my fortress will have rings of defence to fall back to and so on with both physical (like spears in the wall) to people sitting in rafters picking them off and so on so forth and leaving my fortress is the last thing i want Do you find this valuable?
