guns or knives
Aug 19 2008, 6:06 PM EDT Given their numerical superiority, I would have to say that engagements should be avoided whenever possible. You should keep guns and melee weapons handy. Guns make noise and run out of ammo. They also keep them at bay and cause considerable damage. Melee/edged weapons are stealthy and dont need ammo, but they make you get up close and personal with the enemy. Since the enemy wants to get close, you should be prepared for that eventuality. Then again, you can cut/stab/bash dozens of them at once. For you survival it is imperative that you have both. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Aug 19 2008, 11:18 PM EDT i have to agree with byates on this one and i would like to add something... remember that swords can break because you are trying to smash the skull to get to the brain thats why i would always choose a silenced gun over a sword anyday Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 31 2008, 12:58 AM EDT AJR makes a wonderful point, but NEVER, EVER use the edge of weapon, you cannot decapitate someone, it is hard, impractical, and you and I probably can't. If you want to use a knife stab it into the head hard, that should probably result in a kill especially if you wiggle it a little, but even that is someone hard to do. Remember: this is the 21st century ,knives are tools first and weapons like 4th or 5th. Do you find this valuable? |

Oct 6 2008, 7:22 PM EDT "Never, NEVER, take a knife to a gunfight. We should remember this is most certainly NOT a "gunfight". If a horde of zombies is coming toward you and you cannot dispatch them from range quickly enough wouldent you like to have a melee weapon? bullets wont last forever either. And most of us dont have the means to make more. and of course "blades dont need reloading." Do you find this valuable? |

Remember: this is the 21st century ,knives are tools first and weapons like 4th or 5th."I would not recommend getting close enough to an infectious body to use an edged weapon, but slashing is how knife fighting is done. You disable muscle groups and/or arteries which would work on the anatomy of any creature with a vertibrae. Keep your blade in your strong hand and in your weak hand grab a chair or a stick just something to keep some distance between you and your assailant. A knife fight is not something either opponent will walk away from one goes to the morgue and the other goes to the emergency room. Fighting more than one skin job with a knife is suicide. Even with a firearm more than one at close proximity is dangerous never let yourself get surrounded or pinned in a corner. Think ahead a few moves and remain in control of your situation. RE: guns or knives
Oct 7 2008, 1:22 AM EDT its wiser against the undead to carry a gun in a solo mission. it gives you range which is zombies disadvantage. if given a sword on a solo mission your best bet is to not cross the path of a mob. however if a group of well disiplined people, soilders, martial artist, etc. were trained in swords not blades they would dispatch a mob of ghouls with little to no casuality. RE: guns or knives
Oct 7 2008, 10:19 AM EDT guns first, bat second, knives third, hands/feet last..... obviously shooting is preferable....a bat has distance and with enough strength will cave in a skull...a knife comes third... if u know where to strike.... to hit the brain without dulling the knife strikes to the eyes and under the soft part of the chin will do the trick...stabbing into the base of the spine where the cerebellum and spinal cord would also work.... kicks would serve only to knock them down.... it has further distance than hands so reccomended if you want to handle more of them at the same time.... hands if u know how to break a neck.. do it... pointless punching and dislocating joints.... Oct 7 2008, 10:31 AM EDT if you want some sword expeirience join a larping group such as dagorhir they teach you how to use swords and axes as well as pole arms (long weapons like spears) not to mention you will probably learn how to use a shield as well as gain massive arm strength if my guns fail im goin back to my tower shield and a hand-and-a-half sword Do you find this valuable? |

RE: guns or knives
Oct 16 2008, 3:08 AM EDT what i want to know is why hasn't anybody suggested using both? why not have like an assault rifle to shoot at the undead buggers as they sprint at the rapidly backpedaling meal, then sling the rifle over your shoulder and draw a good pistol or uzi (something with a really big mag, i guess) in one hand and maybe a gladius or machete in the other hand. i mean, that gives you the best of both worlds when you get into the shit...
