"Buddha symbol guard with raised edges (all metal), chain half-link on end of sword, black finish carbon steel blade with red/black handle, and 68 inches overall (maximum ego). This sword is massive and sturdy from end to end with a 10 inch tang into the hardwood handle."

5'8" of sword, reach out and touch someone. Only $79.99

tang is probably welded on, the sword is probably made from poorly refined scrap steel, and it doesnt look very well balanced at all (something this size needs a nodachi-sized handle)

For a blade that long you need at least 1 and 1/2 feet of handle, or weighted at the pommel, and preferably large pommel plus 2 feet handle. Full tang construction all the way down too.

Additionally, in an alley or a medium density forest of a large hallway, this giant blade is useless in almost any indoor situation.

My 29 inch blade Katana has more tang (11 inches) and a 14 inch overall handle

Now that is torque!

I actually bought this blade about 3-4 years ago, when they first came out. It's a nice sword but it should only be used for display. I am not sure what the metal is, but I am going to suspect it is stainless steel. The tang of the blade only goes through like 6/8's of the handle, and is mounted with one "peg". The cord on the handle does not have a great feel, and I notice if you try to swing the sword doing some Kata the cord will gradually fall down. If this display-ish sword were to be used in the terms of this site - a zombie scenario, I would try to use it as a spear. Due to the quality of the metal I would be afraid of it snapping if I was in the streets and tried to bring it down vertically on a zed's head. Now that sword I assume is trying to imitate another Japanese sword called a Nodachi. I know of 2 websites where you can get these swords, budk.com and believe cold steel makes one.(I think) Do you find this valuable?

If anyone's seen The Book of Eli, I've become a huge fan of his sword. If I can find a "real" (as in usable) one, I'll have to buy it. Do you find this valuable?

Yeah that's it.

What's exactly the difference between a sword and machete, anyway?

Intent, lot of overlap between the two. Probably more people been killed with a machete than any other edged weapon. Machete is "in fashion" now and there are more people more than any other reason.

I did happen to find a machete that looks like the sword from the book of eli, not it, but almost like it;

what were you expecting? most of the "swords" made these days are from either Asia(China, Taiwan, Indonesia,etc) or the middle east(Pakistan mostly) where workers are a dime a dozen and training is lacking, not to mention their metallurgy(or lack there of). if you want something combat worthy, your gonna have to shell out more than $10 Do you find this valuable?

As a Renaissance reinactor I have discovered a firm called Starfire that makes reinactment blades. The difference between Reinactment and Replica is that the former is designed to be swung in a combat situation while the latter generally hangs on the wall and looks pretty. However in most cases a sword will be no more useful (indeed, less useful) than a good machete which can be had for less than $100.00. IMHO anything that serves one purpose (swords hurt people...period) is not as useful as something that can do the same job plus some other useful purpose (a machete hurts people AND cuts brush. A hammer smashes skulls AND drives nails etc). Do you find this valuable?

To me it looks like a knock off for the tourist trade. Could be wrong. Go here and ask some people that know what they are talking about.

Here's my idea for a sword:
Take a lawn-mower blade. Wrap one end with something (let's say rope.) Sharpen the other end with a grinder. Viola. Instant strong, cheap, and badass-looking blade.
