Starting out on Z-day...
Sep 11 2008, 5:39 AM EDT
Remember, all your plans, every backup plan, all your survivalist buddies, even your family and house could be FUBARd, dead or destroyed...

So, let's say all of that happened. You have absolutely NOTHING except the clothes on your back and the purse / manbag / fanny pack you carry stocked ONLY with WHAT YOU PUT IN THERE ON A DAILY BASIS..

To start this off here's what I have/wear/carry ON A DAILY BASIS....As stupid and paranoid as that may sound:

*Boots: Love 'em, hate 'em I'm the one with them on, until Andy claims them when I an defeated.
*Black BDU jacket or cop-style shirt: Stylish, and holds my spare bootlace and pen.
*Camo or block-color cargoes: Sure, jeans are more 'bite resistant,' but they don't make any denim cargoes that I like so I wear cargoes..Get over it. I like the cargoes with lots of pockets for all my gear.
*Undergarments: I'm not going commando on Z-day, I like to multi-layer and my feet won't be as likely to suffer from infection+blisters.
*Jacket: gray Peacoat, short or long black trenchcoat, gray M-65 jacket, dark tan tanker-style jacket...For cold/ rainy Winter weather.
5.11 TAC-A gloves: For if I get a gun, they help significantly.
Wallet: Holds a gold coin, Ace of Spades card for Luck **crosses fingers** First Aid+CPR ADULT certification, military surplus store cards, State I.D., Plus a pic of a girl I like...
Lucky Necklace: Dog tag on a bling chain. **Crosses toes**
Watch: To keep track of the time.
2-inch folding knife: Not really as a weapon, more as a tool....I am going tp bring a multi-tool to augment its abilities.
1st Aid Kit: small kit specialized for my needs.
Man-Bag: DON'T BRING UP THE GAY ARGUMENT OR YOUR POST WILL BE DELETED.
Water bottle, 2 energy bars, flashlight with spare batteries, small 50's Civil Air Patrol survival manual
*Sharp mind: Even in the shower...

Since I had zero room left, I'll add some more of what I carr, plus, the stuff's seasonal so be sure to include that stuff too:)

*Black bandanna: to look gangster and scare people, can be used as dust mask, tourniquet or to filter out water.
*Cap, seaonal, may be my black C.I.A. cap, may be my USMC cap [to show my support for them **Semper Fi, Do or Die**, beanie, possibly my maroon [not the one in my pic] beret or my East German Officer's peaked cap...Only Z-day will tell.
*Black and gray plaid scarf,:Winter-wear, can be used as a shemagh, a tourniquet or a restraint.
*Black and gray slant-line tie, I'll wear it for looks and another tourniquet or restraint if necessary.
*Belt: to hold up my cargoes.
*Pistol-belt: Yeah, I wear it one WITH ammo pouches, a holster, shotgun ammo pouch, and a glove pouch.
*Matchbook: Who knows what I'll need to use THAT for...

NOW, you all gots an idea as to what the discussion's about...And I don't want to be the only one talking. :)

Yeah, the T-rex costume is a bit too much to lug around.

I'm 'intimidating' enough in my own right, I guess.

The clothes on my back. Told you I'm screwed...Unless it's a school day. Then I'm kind of screwed since I have an ability to judge my limits.

No offence; that was for Hollisaurus Rex.

You're not screwed if you do something about it...I've done the carry-stuff-I-will-hopefully-never-use-thing for years, so I can comfortably do it....I mean, you don't have to be as gung ho, but remeber you'll have a somewhat harder time if Z-day DOES happen.

Do you really enjoy farking up threads with this bullshit?

I've watched now as seriously asked and posed questions such as the Opening Post this thread were quickly devolved into piles and puddles of teenaged bullshit.

I'm not suggesting you and your T-Rex furry suit can go crawl back into the orifice which it was ejected from...

The Big However is that it would keep you away from keyboard long enough to allow those of we who would like to participate in a half serious discussion do so.

Good folding knife. I wear on my neck with a clip-y thing from a deceased flash drive. Little Spyderco Delica isn't up to skinning huge critters, but way designed *could*.

Always have a Smith 442 in my guy purse. Medical stuff for my health problems, supply of *gear* and three days oral meds. Few food bars, and some sucrose pills.

Always have good shoes on my diabetic feet. They aren't pretty nor sexy, but are custom fitted and I can, if needed walk most of a day before discomfort. Good socks always.
Clothing will always depend on "what's up". Work, goofing off, out on MC, at range, teaching, all hard to guesstimate.

Sun glasses, and a pair of old guy *readers*, far sighted, need the cheaters for up close.

Truck has *gear*. Car is equipped. 4X4 is loaded with *camping gear*.

I'll really be dependent on longer ranges and less acute problems than the city dwellers out here in rural reaches.

We're a bit more prepared "just 'cause", and in turn less worried about the Day Zed zombies as we are worried about how to handle our individuals when the masses come out of Cities unprepared and hungry...

What kind of health problems do you have Skip?I have aproblem from time to time with gout...I think some of it's genetic and most of it has to do with my underage drinking years...anyway if you have a problem with this bing cherries have a natural ingredient that reduces inflamation, called tannic acid...also acorns are a good source of tannic acid, the native americans in my area used to put them in a basket in a creek and let them wash out for a couple of days before they would process them for further consumption...I have eaten them raw,so long as you peel the outside shell off they are kind of like a pecan...don't eat abunch of them, they'll give you the shits. I'm diabetic and a dialysis patient now. After DayZed and the rapid cutoff from Cities my supplies, I'm a deadman.

Until then I carry a medium of *stuff*. That stuff to get me Home, or to a pre-supplied spot in our area where we can bunker up and ride out the worst of the incoming waves.

I can't say enough about having places "off site" where you can have small to medium stashes of food and whatever material you'd find strategic.

Agent Green's OP is a good line to consider. What will we do with just the shoes on our feet, no hat, gear across town in parking garage in car, and the pistol in the safe in your pickup truck's cab?

I'm a hardcore proponent of "Run What You Brung" thinking. It helps us all consider what we do *now*, and then when Unkle Zed and Company come for dinner..

Can't be prepared for *everything*, but being *prepared* beats waiting for your brains to be eaten, or your joining the Walking Undead Band...

An additional bit to add.
Keep track of your surrounding, be aware of the worse case scenario and plan for it. For instance, don't assume that you will even have the clothes on your back. Where could you cover from sniper fire? Toxic spill? Bridge destroyed? Mother of all traffic jams? Mugged and everything taken?

That's ALL very true and I plan on doing the cache thing here pretty quick so if I need to gtfood then I can expand my travel-range to a certain bunker in a undisclosed location..

Well on any given day I do have a few things on me that might help. Now given that the shit hits the fan like when I'm on my way to work or something, and I always take my own vehicle. GMC 3/4 Ton 4x4 Duramax Diesel never less then 1/2 tank full (never run out of fuel, prepared I'd guess) Danner workboots, Jeans, leatherman Wave Multi-tool, Srpingfield xp .45 with 2 spare 13rd . clips box of 50 260gr hollow points. C.W.P. (Consealed Weapons Permit). My Browning Auto 5 12 ga. ( I hunt duck and pheasant quite a bit) 25 shells in box. Work Coat, Leather gloves. lighter. Tire Iron. 2-3 ball caps(company logo stuff) a couple bottles of water in the back seat. I would say that I could make it home with the things I carry with me daily. 2  out of 2 found this valuable.
