Carrying more with your car
Sep 12 2008, 10:23 PM EDT
Weld a trailer hitch on it and get a small cargo trailer ( 5'Wx6'Lx5'T ), or what ever your car will handle. I have a 20'Lx8'Wx7'T I use with my 18' cube truck. Which gives me almost the same cargo space as a semi.

Carry a good jack, heavy duty star wrench, and a pair of spares.Anything you want to keep, come hell, undead again, and high water stays in the sled you are driving. *EOM* 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Tie bags to the doors. (Tankers do exactly that.) The only reason people don't do it now is it's illegal, and who's gonna care when the skin jobs rise?

Those $ 1.00 bags that you get at wal-mart, or most big stores are great for strapping down. Some what strong, cheap, and easy to find.

You can buy both universal reese hitches and overhead cargo racks for most vehicles...they're a good investment with or without a crisis.

Trucks are great, me and Talon have an older 3/4 chevy and a camper. We think of it as a very large BOB.

I won't give up my trucks. Besides being 6'4" I hit my head every time I try to get into a small car.

"I won't give up my trucks. Besides being 6'4" I hit my head every time I try to get into a small car."You're exactly one inch taller than me >:( lol I gotta admit though, a truck by far seems to be better for most situations on Z-day than a sedan....However, if you're like me, you'll be taking whatever's available, whether it's an abandoned cop car or if it's your mountain bike. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. "Those $ 1.00 bags that you get at wal-mart, or most big stores are great for strapping down. Some what strong, cheap, and easy to find."Be sure they ARE strong enough. A simple test, buy a couple, load them up to their load (weight) and Material (space) limit and drive around a parking lot like a fucking madman (be sure to get permission first, of course) and shak the fuck out of 'em. If they're still on the car when you're done, then keep them. If they fail, grab them up right away and try to determine why and address that. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

multiple vehicles- unless your group is like, only 5-6 people, or 8 people for an large van-ish vehicle (and even that is PUSHING it), you will need multiple vehicles to keep your group moving at a reasonable pace.

So pushing it is NOT that hard. Thoug I would recomend, if you're running for your live ANYWAYS, taking as many vehicles as you can... Do you find this valuable? |

"I once paced 12 people into a Chevy Sprint. So pushing it is NOT that hard. Are you serious? I just googled up some images, and that thing is friggin tiny! Its like a... a.. Geo metro thingy! Loads of vehicles? well, there IS a delicate balance between too much fuel required and not enough space.... And vehicles will be easy to find and armor in NYC while we wait for the winter to either freeze em solid or just so they are slowed down by snow... then we break out (hopefully) Do you find this valuable? |

" And vehicles will be easy to find and armor in NYC while we wait for the winter to either freeze em solid or just so they are slowed down by snow... then we break out (hopefully)"NYC! I would make sure that my lead vehicle could plow through the traffic jams left over from Z day. Maybe a military spec bulldozer, they have more secure track attachment, less likely to slip off at the wrong time. Do you find this valuable? |
